*Great reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend very smooth and I love that you can change from left hand to right hand so easily. Gave it a 4 on durability because I haven’t had it long enough to rate it. Doing good so far.*

Well, the wow effect from people who switched from Shimano to Daiwa, is very common. The first thing that generally catches attention, is the smoothness of the reel. The second thing is the line layering, that's absolutely perfect. I switched to Daiwa
in 2004 and never bought a Shimano again.😅

What size washers did you use on the bg2500 to make the line lay straight? Can you take a vid showing it. Great review.

Don't judge a reel only by its 'smoothness'.
Once a reel has been broken in after a few trips, it will either start to get smoother because of the functioning of the gears, or it will get worse and start giving more and more feedback while reeling.
Of course its a selling point if its super smooth out of the box, but don't think too much of it.

Supposedly the Sharky III Gold fixed the problem of flex in the handle with it being aluminum. Everyone loves the Nasci, but I can't get past the hex-key handle it uses - it's just dead technology. Also, supposedly there is flex in the Nasci handle when under heave load. People dislike Penn reels, but at least they use thread on handles with their lowest models like the Pursuit. Tackle Advisors is a great channel and he has done multiple reviews / breakdowns of $100 reels. He gave the nod to the BG.

I prefer the BG over the Nasci. There’s more cranking power and less flex.

I used to be a big fan of Shimano but after using their stradic fk and FJ, both reels couldn’t last. My stradic fk has a roller bearing in just 2 months. I never daiwa before, I gave the DaiwA saltist a try. I absolutely love everything about this daiwa reel. I drop it into salt water and yet this reel still running smooth. I would rather just stick with the bg than saltist.

Lovin the BG. Especially for the price.

I love my Stradics, but they are twice the price of the BG which has been performing flawlessly.

The reason for the Shimano line lay, is it helps prevent the line from pulling into itself if you hook something big. Also, the Shimano has better sealing than the BG.

    • @PhillyJohnny

The problem with the Shimano is that hex-key handle design. It wears down and becomes less smooth over time.

i own both and the bg is just a far superior reel. My nasci ive had to replace bearings for because of salt water intrusion where as my bg is still going great with minimal servicing done to it. BG also just has a far nicer build quality to it, literally nothing more moves apart from what is supposed to. On the nasci if you pull the spool up and down it moves a good couple mm where as the bg feel like its locked down on the main shaft even when the drag cap is about to fall off.

dont get confused between smooth and free spining.. a reel can be super smooth w/o being free spinning and also very free spinning and not smooth at all at the same time, IMHO free spinning is not equal to smoothness. TO ME, a smooth reel, is a reel with very little to no play in the moving parts, that the tolerances are minimal, that, like you say, how effortless is it to turn the handle, that you dont feel like you have to break he inertia to turn the handle (like in most penn reels) regardless of how free spinning they are

The drag on BG 2000 is plenty.
Imagine the rod you are using picking up a 4.4 pound weight.
Medium power rod and above the 2500 is what you needed anyway

Just close the both drag till it's totally close and do the same I guess you open the drag of daiwa more that's why it's move so smoothly

You can never give a review without to test them on the water.
Got 2 Nasci 2500 and 4000 I found them not so smooth, I felt a hard-gear under pressure line/moving water 18 grams jighead.
    But great smooth drag.
Most of the spinreels turn good from the box, but performing can be totaly the upperseat.
So I guess the Daiwa gear and turns better even with less drag.

Richard De Boer I agree. I’ve used both reels now and To me, the BG feels a lot more solid when reeling in fish. Both of my reels are still smooth as they are still new but I seem to like fishing with the BG more than the Nasci. We will see with more use...

After using these reels for about a year, my preference would be the Daiwa BG. Both are smooth but to me, it feels like the BG has more cranking power. I’ve dropped the BG in sand and have dunked it in salt water and it’s still smooth without any maintenance.

For us in New Zealand, the BG is in another price bracket compared to the Nasci which is good value for lower priced reel!!

In my opinion Diawa makes better spinning reels. Shimono makes good one too but better bait casters.

instead of buying 10 reels for 100 bucks just buy one stella and replace it every 4 years... i did that and i wish i had did that before... my Stella after 3 years is just perfect, all you need is good maintenance
