      THANK YOU! With so much pressure on test results, teachers are scared to deviate from the lesson plans, and in some cases, have almost no time anyway!

      it was a valid question.
      Walking at the commencement ceremony is one thing, taking your diploma away is another. One is for show, the diploma is real even if you don't walk.

    • @Xcxc13
      @Xcxc13 7 років тому +28

      it's a valid question, I chose not to walk for my graduation at uni, because I din't want to buy the robes and sit in the sun, I just wanted my degrees which I did recieve

    • @SheepdogSmokey
      @SheepdogSmokey 7 років тому +25

      Walking is a big deal for some though, the ceremony allows their family to come and support them, maybe after struggling to pass, to see students give that up for changes, rather than just "nah, I don't want to" is nice to see.

      SoulPancake not sure which class you're teaching but my old piano teacher his friend taught history and geography, he had his kids do a concert tour, planning out which dates and locations made the most sense... always which I had that class. wish I had been in yours as well... the best my school did was go to mediaeval times while we read Beowulf!

    My teacher made a contract in a gibberish font claiming the printer malfunctioned and asked us to sign saying it was a permission slip for a field trip. It was in fact a slip claiming that whoever signed it had to bring him a sandwich everyday. It was a way of teaching how Native Americans were told to sign something they couldn't read.

      My Government teacher invited local officials (Mayor, Police Chief, etc) to debate topics against students, often making us debate against what we believed, to teach us to research, and how to act in a debate. She also made sure that those officials also came just to talk about their role in local government. My History teacher would bring in people too, Veterans especially, to talk about having lived through major historical events. My two favorite classes by far.

      TheMovieMyLife I'm 50/50 about that opinion... just because some things (namely life) are supposed to be teached at home, or at least outside of it. "Education starts from home", as they say.

    • @TheMovieMyLife
      @TheMovieMyLife 7 років тому +4

      Tiago Cardoso - Your stance is understandable. Nevertheless, the usefulness of a class called Life is highly dependant on the curriculum / precisely what is taught in said class. Education does indeed start from home but at home it only starts. It would have been interesting to hear what the kids in the class actually wanted to learn in a class called Life. Such a request likely comes from the understanding that life is tough and not everyone knows what they need to know when they need to know it. Therefore the more prepared one can be with at least the key fundamentals, the better.

    • @kye4947

      +NFITC1 More like parents are vicious towards schools because they can't believe that their little snowflake is a trouble maker, or is failing because they aren't putting in the work. That's not to say that they are not on occasion completely justified. But there is a lot of blaming of schools for issues that either are not the schools fault and/or responsibility. Or are something the school should be enforcing but is unable to do so because you have handcuffed the school.

    Nick Ferroni is a great teacher who energizes his students and is actually teaching something really useful. The Principal supporting and helping get the message across was delightful. This shows how powerful communication can be. Just stand up and be counted for what you believe in. You might not always get what you want, but at least you will have been heard and there is great satisfaction in being brave.

    When I was in high school in the late 80's, an assembly was held just before Remembrance Day. The principals came out and announced that Canada had joined with other countries and declared war against another country (can't remember which one now). Though everyone's first thought was it's a joke, they were very convincing and we began thinking maybe it was possible. A fear in us certainly grew. When they finally admitted it was all pretend, we really had a better understanding of what soldiers and their families went through. Excellent teaching!!

    When I was in high school, I was in the NJROTC. From the time I was 6 years old, I knew I wanted to be a US Marine, so hence why the JROTC. My junior and senior year, our Naval Science Instructor was a retired Marine Corps 1st Sergeant (1stSgt). He would take some of the cadets that would take different liberties for granted, down to the VA hospital, particularly where Marines, Soldier, Sailors, Airmen, etc have been returning from Iraq and Afghanistan injured and missing limbs. True sacrifice comes with blood shed. I think more teachers should show students where their freedom comes from by showing them the ones who put their lives on the line willingly everyday. While this was a good lesson, I think there are some in the class that did not fully get it. My niece used to take things for granted until I took her with me to visit a guy I once served with who had just returned home from Afghanistan missing his left leg. He told her the stories of us in combat together, back to back, brothers in arms, fighting for each other. After seeing what he had sacrificed for this country, to this day she is very grateful for what she has. She even has gone on opening the eyes of her fellow students.

    Change for the sake of change is sometimes very bad. Everytime I got a new boss everything became worse. However, Change to improve something is good even if it isn't an improvement for you. Such as the lives of our founding fathers who paid the ultimate price. Is the lesson here to "protest because you don't like the dress code" and the boys can't see enough of you legs, or is the lesson "make changes for a getter education and future?" That was the concern of the founding fathers. They did not protest because it was their right. It was their future and our present and our childrens' future. We must be responsible for the consequences of our protests.

    I had a teacher exactly like this in 7th grade his name was mr. Nguyen and now I am 32 yrs old. So it’s great to hear there are still great teachers out there. But now I wonder what my teacher is doing right now. Bc I remember he always said there was always a meaning to his madness. Now I understand what he meant.

    the founding fathers weren't committing treason, they'd already declared war long before signing ...

      Michael Edmunds not really, the founding fathers went to Britain a bunch of times during the war and didn't get "killed"

      There was still a hope that things would deescalate until the Declaration was signed. That was a moment of no return for the Continental Congress. Even the war wasn't necessarily treason without the force of a new nation behind it.
