I think the firing of Carnell can be summed up with one single statement you said.. "I want our swag back". He lost all of the teams swagger.. it's not just the poor results. The spirit isn't there anymore.
I was shocked, but not because of last season or anything like that. I fully chalked up the poor performance thus far to the lack of talent in key positions. We had no attacking central midfielder. We had no 2nd striker (I do not consider Adeniran the answer). We didn't have our most important midfielder Lowen for all but the last few games. We lost both our creative wingers to injury (Pompeu & Alm). Those were the reasons the offense struggled so badly. We were having to play CITY2 players for crissakes. None of these issues were the result of bad coaching. And just as we were about to fill those holes, they fire Carnell? Seems weird to me. I think there are some behind the scenes stuff we don't know about. Maybe it was a lot of how he handled Adeniran. Maybe Carnell lost the trust of the players because of it. I don't know but I'm not convinced it was all simply poor results.
The timing with the injury crisis does make you wonder. I just get the feeling this was simmering for a bit and the embarrassment at Vancouver was just the final straw. If it wasn't going to happen now, maybe it happens in a week or two.

I think he was supposed to replace Giocchini. Regardless, we've not had a legit 2nd striker, an attacking midfielder, or Lowen for basically the whole season. Shouldn't be that much of a surprise the offense has struggled. I mean we are 2nd in shots attempted but last in shots on goal. Yikes. I figured we'd struggle until the new signings arrived. That should have been obvious. That's a big reason why I think something else was the main reason for Carnell getting fired. Still, it's bad to take 3 points out of a possible 27.
Gonna miss him. Not only was he a good coach he was an ambassador of Saint Louis.
Genuinely nice guy and a good face of the club in its early days. Just a shame things got away from him.

I think the “he would still be here” comment by Lutz doesn’t indicate a knee jerk reaction as much as it was the straw that broke the camels back.

@@SoccerZombieSTL With Klauss injury, it shouldn't be a surprise that Adeniran is back. I think it's less about Carnell and more about Klauss.
If it was about Klauss, he should have at least been on the bench Saturday instead of wasting a CITY2 call-up

It was pretty widely reported that there was an offer for Teuchert in January but Hannover was playing hardball.
A club firing the gaffer at this point in the season is ALWAYS a bad move.
