I watched this as soon as it was posted but its Sunday and I just wanted to take the time to say how much I appreciate and enjoy your content. I was born extremely deaf and I'm 47 now and it's only got worse as I've got older. Your laid back style and having a channel with no drama's is really good for me. I feel that I can comment without being shot down or attacked lol. I always loved the vintage Jabba set as a kid and remember using it as some kind of coffin for many action figures across many different toy lines. He was very tactile and my younger brother had the Rancor. I was one of those kids who loved having the Rancor keeper figure and never worried about aesthetics. He was the character that showed that it didn't have to be all about light sabers and the force. We've all experienced losing a loved one whether human or animal. That's the heart of Star wars to me. Ha, too much time on my hands on a Sunday morning. Anyway, love what you do.
No matter how obnoxiously long you think this video is, it will never be as obnoxiously long of a time that I waited for Hasbro to send this product (seriously though, a YEAR after announcement?)
Yeah, that really threw me off with most everything from this set is a reissue, so why would it take a freakin' year?! Then when I got the shipping announcement, I legit thought they were releasing it way earlier...as if it went up for pre-order this year. So for some odd reason, when it was all said and done, it came across like this thing was released pretty quickly 🤷🏼♂️.
It seems like the weird orange shading was a factory error and there's been a running change, as all the samples I've seen in the UK don't have it.There have been plenty of people on forums saying that it came off immediately with just a tiny wipe of acetone (as if the paint hasn't been fixed properly), and in photos it looks a million times better
Even though the eye paint isn't as detailed as it should be, boy does it make a _world_ of difference compared to all the other Jabba's. It was a total gamble with the final product coming out like the prototype or not; 'cause the sale barge version looked the same, but the final product was lacking. This release has rejuvenated me when it comes to 3 3/4" Star Wars figures. Man oh man do I love it!
The POTF2 version of 8D8 is still pretty good for display and has the added bonus of the light pipe eyes, so you can get them to glow in the right light. For those who want to keep their 8D8 in the package - the alternate option isn't too bad.
Nice review comparsion, thanks! Sorry to see the stickiness of the material separating over time and deteriorating. I have the 6" scale Jabba Hasbro 2023 release which I got half price on sale new, but thanks for reviewing the 3 3/4" scale Jabba one too.
I forgot what my Jabba was exactly, but he came with a pot of slime which you could fill him up with and when you squeezed it all came out. He looks really good and is still not sticky. Not sure if you've seen that version, but it was a Hasbro. I really fanboyed all over Oola when I was a kid. If she never gets a new figure I hope she at least gets a great Black Series, or even better, a Hot Toys, to make up for it someday.
I had the Walmart set shipped to Australia for peanuts in 2011 when the Australian dollar was at parity with the greenback, so i definitely combined the two sets to get my ultimate Jabba setup for my palace diorama.
I have been collecting rubber monsters since the seventies and I can tell you that rubber naturally sweats, especially in contact with PVC. You just have to wash it with neutral white soap every two years, wash it until the sticky effect goes away and then it should be stored only in contact with cardboard.
54:26 I'm sure you already have, but did you give ol' squishy Jabba a good washin' with some dishwashing detergent? It got rid of like 90% of the stickiness with mine. *Just remembered you probably wouldn't have since you kitbashed your display one...but you could now give it a try with the back-up one.
I haven’t done anything to the one I unboxed but I do recall doing various things to my other one a few years ago. Nothing seemed to fully get rid of the stickiness 😕
I washed mine twice since I bought it in 2010 with Dawn dish soap and he has held up great...no paint loss or body deteriorating...even put in new stuffing and his throne is unaffected.
It's okay, as someone who's been an adult for as long as youtube has existed when someone says "I watched this youtube channel as a kid" I also crumble to dust 😂
52:21 I never liked that tiny sculpted rag. I found some material that's similar (but thinner) to the blanket that came with the V1 Sideshow Jabba, then scaled it down to 1/18. So it's the exact same design as that Sideshow one...and oddly enough for years I thought that was a full-on movie accurate blanket.
How was this play set not regularly produced? This is a desirable character and the secondary prices are already insane. I’m sad I missed out. Thanks for the review! Love watching your videos
If you wipe the Walmart Jabba with unscented baby wipes that gets rid of the sticky residue really well. It will come back over time but just repeat the process for a sticky-free Jabba
I only ever had the Kenner Jabba (don't judge me :) so I was excited to get this new TVC one - I have since got the Saga and Glob versions in the last few weeks. Oh I forgot I've also got the POTF2 one facing forward from the ANH deleted scene (but I don't display that one at the moment so it doesn't count). Great and long review! PS Sorry for the long comment but you reap what you sow :} PS tip for opening box flaps; send a long straight edge rule though and use as a gentle lever!
Water down some matt mod podge and apply a thin layer or two with your airbrush. That will permanently get rid of the stickiness…. It will create a barrier, so the plastic will stop reacting. 👍
The new Jabba the Hutt is the best in my opinion and I like the old Jabba the Hutt as well back in the good old days I am not keen on the 2010 Jabba the Hutt one but that’s my opinion
Great video. Really informative. I hate to be that guy but if you have an extra oola could you help a brother out? Of course, I'm only joking. I guess I'm living by the expression, "you miss 100% of the shots you never take. By the way, i got into 3d printing partly because of your videos. Thank you for the inspiration
Lol I thought the 2010 Walmart exclusive came with the slime effect because he is a slug like creature not because of deterioration, anyways it is the best jabba sculpt just wish it had the details of the new tvc's eyes
PPS I recently watched a YT video where they removd the neck shadows with some solution (of some sort?) and it worked out well. They also then applied their own shading.
I wonder what they used. But I am going to just keep him as he is, as an example of this particular product. Honestly if I wanted to repaint one I might as well do it with one of the earlier versions
Hi, not sure if you've seen this, but LEGO is coming out with a new "Ultimate Collector's Series" Jabba's sail barge. I'm aware that you own some of the previous Jabba related LEGO sets.
I saw there’s going to be a new LEGO Sail Barge coming out. I was bummed when the Jabba figure was revealed to just be the same figure we got from the previous Palace and Sail Barge sets.
No It's different the pupils have propered aligned orange shades and the pupils fit and the dark green lines are added more not to mention his arm tattoo is very different so no they aren't the same therefore it will fetch higher demand
Would've been nice if they went back to the drawing board with the body; to give us an articulated tail, akin to how NECA did their Godzilla tails. Not having options sucks, plus the tail doesn't taper enough. That combined with the throne being oversized gives the illusion of Jabba being under scaled. The length is definitely right (although the aforementioned tail not tapering enough makes them look stumpier), but their height is actually too tall. The internet says 5' 9", but Jabba is shorter than that. Now I have _no problem_ with the height, just pointin' out math to ppl that think this Jabba mold is too small.
I gotta say, I hard disagree with the outcome that the walmart collection is the better version, at least when it comes to the jabba figure itself. It looked good for the time, but nowadays, I just feel like there's something off about it ever since the black series one came out. I also think color wise it looks very cheap, like the light tan and lime green doesn't really look bad, but compared to the new ones' colors, it just really doesn't hold a candle at all. I know, i'm probably not really a jabba expert, but to me that new one, especially with the color scheme, even with a couple of weird color choices, just captures the design of that character so perfectly in a way that I don't think any other jabba really comes close to. I will say though that the Oola is infinitely better than the 8D8, because not only is 8D8 is a worse character choice when it comes to this set specifically, but it's basically a glorified 5 points of articulation figure, whereas Oola is an actional functioning toy with decent articulation.
The new TVC Jabba is a far more screen accurate sculpt. And with a little bit of blending on the paint app, the new Jabba is without question, superior...

1983 OG for me. I still have mine from childhood.
Anything Jabba, is awesome. Thanks for your niche passion on this character.
The walmart version is still my favorite Jabba sculptwise. It was sculpted by David Silva who also sculpted the 30th anniversary Dewback.
Thanks for the extensive review.

I could take a college course from you in jabba
I could listen to your content for hours…that said…nothing tops the 1983 Kenner Jabba…nothing has captured him better since….

Also true! I didn’t have mine at hand to be able to show it

That’s the Jabba Glob figure. I reviewed it on the channel a number of years ago

Did the same. It works.

I think you've finally talked me into performing a body transplant for my Walmart Jabba, though that means I'll have to learn to paint. :0

@@brettthompson8334 because the star wars crew over at hasbro are fucking psychopaths and don't know what they're doing.
Yeah it’s really too bad that they couldn’t keep this available a bit longer
we've been getting a lot of reissues. i hope we get a new TVC rancor with updated articulation
My Hasbro-pulse-Jabba didn´t have the "meat-sauce"-paint under his cheek at all. So it´s seems that there´s a lot of paintvariations out there.
I really need to get hold of a throne for the 6" Black Series Jabba. One REALLY should have been included in that box.
I've been told you can use cornstarch to get rid of the stickiness on those old vinyl toys
The old ome facing backwards is a Nike swoosh

I’m sure it’s too expensive but it looks pretty good. I will be getting it to review
@@MightyJabbasCollection honestly yes the price is insane, but I'm saving up for it because I always wanted a lego sail barge😁

@@Silver_007_DM Ah, I see.
One more question: Jabba thrones often come with animal skin rugs. But what kind of animal is it?
I don’t know if they’ve ever really said, but there is a jerba head displayed next to the tauntaun head on Jabba’s wall, so it might be that
I prefer the plastic pillows of the 2010 Walmart and the 2024 jabba
That is surprising how the jabba is all sticky lol 😂
Maybe you can spray it with some clear sealer

Absolutely brilliant wrap of these play sets thank you so much
Give Wal*Mart Jabba a wash in nice warm water and dishsoap. Let him dry overnight, and that should keep the stickyness at bay for a while.
You can also dust it with talcum/baby powder and that takes away the feel of the stickiness. Of course it's only temporary.
They are 350 on eBay now
the new one doesn’t have enough green paint around the face
Looks like jabba’s been eating too much Burger King, there’s not a wrinkle on his quadruple chins that doesn’t have ketchup smeared in it.

NOOOO don't open it! lol you can probably find a loose one before another carded one. or have one 3D printed if you wanted to display him
Too late! 😂
