When I purchased my latest handgun, I was looking for a DA/SA home defense gun. I had narrowed my list down to these two guns. I was leaning CZ due to liking the looks better and is decocker only. Locally I couldn't find one under $479, so when I found a Storm for $369 the savings persuaded me and I bought it. I was iffy on it at first, especially the looks, but then I took it to the range. I have to say I love it. 100% reliable and very accurate. I now have a D spring in it and converted it to a G model and like it even more. It is an awesome gun.

I have the PX4 Storm Compact Carry with the Langdon Tactical trigger job, which is essentially just changing the D weight mainspring (16 pounds) for a lighter spring. The trigger pull in both double and single action are dropped by over a pound by that two minute spring swap.
The Compact Carry is plenty accurate. The short sight radius may hurt a little in slow fire, longer range shooting, but at defensive ranges within 25 yards it's not an issue. My times and accuracy have actually improved since I made the switch from a Glock 19 to the Beretta as my typical everyday compact carry gun.

I bought the PX4 Compact after too many youtube videos that had nothing bad to say about the gun.
I've had it for just over a week with 50 rds thru it and NO BUYERS REMORSE. I did redo the sights with sight paint ( florescent orange in front, florescent green on the rear ) and added grippon grip textures. Would like to have stippling professionally done but these make a nice difference in the feel.
I am shooting this gun at 30 yards and am very pleased with its and my accuracy.
This one is a keeper. It replaced my 1911.
As for the standard compact such as mine..no issues with any of the standard parts.

I have two PX4 CC pistols. They are a great size, accurate, and can have an even better trigger by simply installing a Wilson Combat 12# hammer spring. I’ve did, and have had 100% reliability with a range of ammo. I’m getting 6.5lbs DA, and 3.75lb SA readings on digital Lyman gauge. Ernest Langdon is using a modified WC spring, that comes in under more around 11# on his trigger jobs. Thanks for sharing!

Nice review! I just purchased the PX4 Compact Carry and am exited to shoot it. I have owned a standard sized PX4 in .40 for a lot of years which has been supremely reliable but the total package of this LTT inspired 9mm was just to much to pass on, regardless of price. As far as CZ, I do not own a P07 but i have had a P10C since they were first introduced and one cannot argue that they make a fantastic product; interestingly, I will say that the stippling on the the P10C is also very aggressive and probably my only “negative” critique of the pistol from an IWB carry perspective. At any rate, I am stoked about the possibilities of the Compact Carry as an EDC which would replace my current G23. I will try to get back and update after a few weeks. Stay safe!

Uncertain if you read late comments. Very complete and fair review, thank you. I own an LTT PX4 Compact Carry, and I think it’s a great gun. I’m struggling to get comfortable with carrying it as my usual carry is a P365 XL Spectre comp. I was considering a P07 or P01, however your comments regarding the simplicity of design and maintenance of the storm convinced me to save some money on that purchase. Regarding accuracy, to me, these guns are a defensive weapon meant for close range defensive situations, long rage accuracy is not a primary concern for me. Regarding price, you get what you pay for. The LTT trigger on my storm is fantastic, full stop. To each their own and most people won’t be disappointed with either choice.

I've owned both, still own the PX4. Both guns were reliable, but the PX4 is better in every aspect except slide/barrel finish and grip texture. The PX4 is ugly to most, but it's been so good that I've grown to love it. The P07 does have a better aftermarket, the PX4 is limited to Beretta or Landon. The PX4 full size .40 is one of the softest shooting polymer .40's that I've ever shot.

Great video!!! I'm so glad to see the PX4 finally getting some love... very underrated/unappreciated for so long. You correctly pointed out that - if you were to get all the changes/upgrades found on the Carry/Compact Carry - you would save money in the long run (even more so, if the owner couldn't DIY). As for the price comparison, IMHO the more accurate match up would be with the standard PX4 Compact. This is the route I took. I picked up an Inox Compact and loved it out of the box, but I was surprised at the significant impact a relatively small investment made: $9-12 hammer spring swap $17 for the Talons, and $40-75 to swap out the decocker levers (if not, the PX4 can be converted to Type-G - decocker only - in about 15 minutes, for FREE). I still may swap the sites out, at some point, but I haven't felt the need to do much more with it... just an incredibly good and flat shooter!

    • @tobylmiller
      @tobylmiller 5 років тому +1

@Jay The Security Guy It's about as night/day different as when I first installed the D-spring. Right away, I noticed a significant difference :) Basically, you have the following for a PX4, with a stock trigger:
      Stock spring: DA 9.9# / SA 5.1#
      D-spring: DA 8# / SA 4.5#
      12# spring (LTT): DA 7-8# / SA 4#
      11# spring (LTT): DA 6-7# / SA 3.5-4#
Excerpts from LTT: "The 11# and 12# hammer springs are both acceptable
for duty and competition use in the PX4. We use the 11# hammer springs in the PX4's on all of our trigger jobs now given the extensive testing and performance.
      It is highly recommended
The D model hammer spring in the PX4 from Beretta is 'about a 12.5# spring' "

yeah right on Ken, I put the Wilson Combat spring kit in my Beretta 92FS all five springs and it made the pull 1/2 of how it comes and very smooth both double and single actions were dramatically improved and I bought the kit for 20 bucks from Cheaper than Dirt. That was some of the best money I ever spent on improving a firearm. Using all five springs is key to ensure you get the best bang for your buck and you'll need a nice punch set to install the three springs in the slide. There are multiple videos out on how to do it. It makes an already great gun into a really great shooting gun that you will always take along on range day.

What the industry needs is willful and intentional departures from the boring "glock copy".

I agree, CZ is a lot of gun for the money, great firearm. However, I made a decision to sell one of my 3, 9mm compacts and sold my CZ P-07 and kept my Glock 19 and PX4 C.
It took me a while to get used to it , but once I started shooting more and making some minor modifications , the PX4 is my favorite carry more so than my G19. Even though the PX4 is a bit heavier, Overall, the PX4 gives me tighter groups and less recoil for sure,. Gun is very comfortable carrying AIWB .
    Now im looking forward to get a PX4 C in 40 S&W.

I now own both of these pistols. --- I just got my PX4 Storm Compact Carry-2. I really like the recessed hammer, and really like the orange-red glow front sight. It's very easy to line up on target. Try it, you'll like it. - I have to say its trigger is the absolute best there is compared to all the other DA pistols I have - velvety smooth and precise DA action each and every time. -- One thing I think will really surprise new users of this weapon is the decocker. When I first racked it for dry-fire and used the decocker, I expected a soft seating of the hammer like on my other DA pistols. My CZ-P07 decocker is the best - it gently seats the hammer to half-cock. - Well, the decocker on the PX4 CC2 releases the hammer with a seemingly full trigger force. I thought:- Oh boy -- that's not good! - It felt like decocking the hammer would certainly fire the pistol. The hammer force in decocking felt exactly the same as dry-firing it. - So, put my trusty 9mm laser round in it - decocked it - the hammer came down hard, but no laser fire. Dry-fired it and the laser lit up on the wall. Did both several times with the same result - decocking doesn't activate the laser round while firing the pistol does. Since Beretta does not cover this very strange phenomenon in their manual or in any review I've seen so far, including this one, can someone please explain how the hammer on the PX4 CC2 coming down with seemingly full firing force while decocking does not fire the pistol? Thanks.

I was in the market for a compact pistol for CCW and was heavily leaning towards a Glock 19,CZ P-07 or CZ P10-C. The PX4 shoots so flat in rapid fire and the trigger is so smooth. The DA is heavy and long (not a bad thing) and the SA is crisp. Best thing is that it can be improved as well as the decocker, guide rod, sights, etc. I agree the PX4 is ugly but once you shoot it you learn to love it. Those who own them know what I'm talking about. Full size model holds 17+1 because more is better (flush).
I upgraded mine with the competition trigger group from Beretta, 11 lb hammer spring, steel guide rod, Ameriglo sights, a few 20 round magazines and a quality holster. The trigger and the action are super smooth now.

Great, fair and honest review! One thing I’d add that’s just my opinion on why I think the P07 has a phenomenal SA trigger. I don’t want a wall in my pull, especially if I have to defend myself in a gunfight. The 07 is like a “caddy” as they used to say. It’s smooth and you don’t notice it. Once my finger goes inside the guard it’s time to pull. A wall complicates accuracy on a pull. But it’s become the way to describe the break of the trigger pull itself. With that being said, having a noticeable reset is a good thing if you have a little to much over travel. And it’s hard to have one without the other. So to everyone who buys a SD pistol, practice as much as possible. As someone who is in love with Baretta’s you can never go wrong with one. But to me the storm is ugly. The 07 with $160 of Cajun is an insane pistol. Right at $600 ish total. The grittiness of the DA on the P07 is from the coated frame side of the trigger bar. It’s rubbing against the non coated trigger spring that’s pressing the porous poly frame. Polish the bar and it’s golden. Or shoot a lot! Lol. Sometimes the frame needs to be smoothed but usually that takes care of it.

I personally prefer my P-07 (especially at its price compared tp the PX4 Storm Compact) and it's not surprising that it's my EDC. I like the size, how it looks, and how little the muzzle flip is when I shoot compared to my Sig P320. The ergonomics are great and I love the beavertail on the grip which makes it so comfortable to get your hand under. If you want a gun with more aftermarket support, the CZ P07 (and the larger P09) would be the one to get. Those folks at Cajun Gunworks make magic happen if you are willing to pay for it. There are also more optic friendly custom cuts you can get from various companies and lighting cuts to lighten up the slide.
While I've never shot a PX4 Storm Compact before, I've shot the full size variant plenty of time. I hate to admit it but for some reason I shoot way better on the PX4 Storm. For how large the slide is, the PX4 is a very flat shooting gun. I actually prefer the recoil impulse on the PX4 Storm. It's one of the easiest guns to take apart and maintain as well. I also like the futuristic 80s Sci-Fi look it has going. You can also get a Langdon slide if you want it to be optics ready. The only two gripe I have with the PX4 Storm is the safety/decocker and the smooth grip. The safety/decocker stabs my fingers when I rack the slide quickly and I'm afraid of accidentally flipping on the safety in an environment where I need my gun to work. No doubt this can be accounted for with training though and the compact's wing safety/decocker doesn't look as sharp. You can always get the G model or buy the parts to make the PX4 Storm a decocker only. The grip on the PX4 Storm is great on the front strap and back strap, but the sides are so smooth (especially for your support hand to really lockdown the grip). Talon grips or a custom stipple job would be the way to go for me.
You really can't go wrong with either gun and it comes down to preference. I would be happy with either one.

@@2ndAdvent888 I personally use a Harry's Holsters Singleton with my P07. I carry AIWB and it's perfect during Autumn/Winter. This isn't left hand friendly though and can be picky with some aftermarket sights. I never bought an OWB holster for it so I can't comment on that.
I do have a Vedder RapidTuck for my PX4 Storm and I like that a lot. You can customize it to fit your hand orientation, with an optic, and leather for comfort. I might get one for my CZ P07 down the line, but my Harry's Holster has worked well so far for what I need.

I know I’m late to the game here but owning and shooting both I’d say that the PX4 is without question my favorite carry. It shoots like a much large gun and the rotating barrel is not a gimmick. They are both incredibly reliable using factory ammo and takedown and cleaning is simple and easy for both though I’d give the nod the PX4.
I love my CZs in general but for carry the Storm is my choice.

I Cajunized my P07, now is more expensive than a Glock or a PX4 but is custom, smooth, super reliable and works really really good. Since I have big hands my pinky jugs the edge of the P07 grip so I bought a P09 magazine and installed "The NULL: CZ P07 19 Round Magazine Adapter Sleeve" to the magazine. If you have big hands or like more capacity this is the way to go.

Trigger is really good stock. However, the trigger reach for me was a little too long. I will stick with my P07 that has served me very well. I would for sure suggest people to take a look at both though!

    Having said that....”CZ gritty”????
I’ve had great luck w/CZ trigger. I really like the trigger double bar design. (Smith & Wesson should take note w/ their M&P Shield)
My 75 & 2075 RAMI. Yes, that “Pin” is high maintenance.... CZ says 500 to 600 round cycles. Also, guide rod springs @ same replacement intervals. Not a fan of that at all but I stay w/ the manufactures recommendations to keep that “snappiness” -
    Thx again.

summer 2022 I compared 5 pistols, including these two. (PX4 subcompact used in 40 cal, $529.)
My budget for a gun is $600 unless it is really special. I agree, expensive carry guns are looking to be "lost" if they ever go into an evidence locker.
I wanted a da/sa with decocker, decocker & safety preferably. Kicker - I wanted 357 SIG. No one makes 357 SIG now except Glock.
The CZ ergonomics were, IMO, terrible, which surprised me.
The PX4 was really good, but I looked for 357 sig too long, it sold. Would have been my second choice.
Found an H&K P2000sk in 9mm, $599. Called HK US HQ, in the industrial park where I used to work. Maybe the same building. No, I had no chance of them ever making one again in 357 SIG.
Took my wife for a weekend trip. The one in stock sold. New price, when they get one in, is $749.
The H&K would have been the choice IF I could buy one at $599, which you can't anymore. Px4 would have been a close second.
Bought a Glock 33 in 357 SIG, sensational gun, other than being striker fired. 357 SIG is what 9mm wishes it was. Glock $499 plus tax. I like striker fired and Glock, but will not carry chambered, which lead to the search for a da/sa.
I know all the chambered vs not chambered arguments, don't bother commenting
Also bought a Taurus TH9c in 9mm. Da/sa safety/decocker two mags, $301 including taxes. About 250 rounds through it. Trigger is a little gritty, magazine release needs some work. Otherwise excellent. I shoot groups better than with the H&K I tried out.
For $830, I have two carry guns, but if anybody can find a new 357 SIG da/sa at a reasonable price, I'm interested.

How do you like these compared to the Sig X-carry? I was looking at the X-carry and the PX4 Compact carry. I tried the PX4 compact (not carry) at my local range (rental) but the trigger felt like it was rough at times and unpredictable here and there- it felt like the gun was gummed up and needed to be cleaned, which is very likely. I almost wish I had a friend who owned and maintained one so I could try it out. I found out I’m not really a fan of DA/SA, especially since I have smaller hands and in DA, the trigger is farther forward and harder for me to reach, so I’m using more of my finger tip which causes me to pull the trigger to the side instead of straight rearward. I’m looking at the Sig X-carry now. I own a Glock 19 and M&P 2.0, but I’m looking for something else to spend my tax return on haha.

Yes, the overall cartridge length is critical with reloads in the PX-4 compact (and the regular PX-4) so hand loads 'by the book' may not work as well as preferred until you get that set for these particular pistols. Problem solved by getting hold of a used 'test barrel' (far cheaper than a new barrel) for the Beretta to check fit & length before assuming the hand loads will work.
