    Some of you might be wondering,"why is this not called the Panzergewehr??".
    Well,it wasn't until 1918 where an actual word for "Tank" was input in the German language.
    And since this rifle was designed in late 1917,it was going by the English name,so therefore that is why it's called "Tankgewehr".

      It was called "Tank" to conceal its true function. The tank was designed by Landships Committee, but calling it "Landship" would be too obvious. So they called it "Water Carrier" but later switched to "Tank." Wire cutter tanks later has WC written on its hull but coincidentally it also means Water Closet

    While yes, the M1918 T-Gewehr was the only anti-tank rifle to see any significant use during WW1, there were actually some others that were developed prior to Armistice. These include the Becker Tankabwehrkanone (essentially a semi-automatic only ground version of the 20mm autocannon), Philip Godsal's .600/.500 (necked-down .600 Nitro Express) anti-tank rifle, and a Winchester .50-caliber anti-tank rifle. Just some interesting information to leave here. EDIT: I also just discovered the French 20x115mm Delaunay-Belleville anti-tank rifle of 1918.

      the 13.2mm cartridge was actually developed as a machine gun cartridge but never ended up being used in a widely issued machine gun but rather some experimental guns and this rifle though they did issue belts of K bullets to their machine gun crews including those in tanks for anti tank purposes

    I'm starting to get a flood of comments about how we "faked" our T-gewehr ammo because of claims that it will break your arm.
    The 13.2 TuF is roughly equivalent to .50 BMG in perceived recoil. The gun has 1" spikes on a solid bipod and is quite heavy. This means, used properly, the recoil is actually quite controllable. I have fired the gun once and Mae has put 5 rounds though one at original load data. It was bedded well into a pile of sandbags. The first shot gave her a nickel sized bruise, the rest likely contributed nothing as she adjusted her posture to better match the high center. I received no marks whatsoever as she had already warned me about how the setup recoiled and where to snug everything in.
    ua-cam.com/video/_ovHGvT4f9k/v-deo.html
    If you're worried about a non properly emplaced T-gewehr, well, Ian and Michael both shot actual original ammo with just about the worst free stand I could imagine. While it gave them a jolt, no one broke any bones.
    ua-cam.com/video/EzDfUKNwfGc/v-deo.html
    Recall, this gun is among the first anti-material rifles and so a LOT of myths built up quickly, especially because it was almost immediately put back out of service. As with any high recoil firearm I'm sure you could be hurt using it outright foolishly. But a trained rifleman, even unfamiliar with the recoil of this particular gun, shouldn't have a great deal of difficulty. Fatigue would probably kick in about 7 - 10 rounds in though in my estimation due to working the large bolt and the general shock of each shot on the nervous system.

    • @Gabo-if4fe
      @Gabo-if4fe 6 років тому +16

      Hey man i love your content specially because in my country Chile we have very strict gun laws so is almost imposible to get guns in terms of restrictions and in price (a glock 19 cost about $1.131 us, 9 mm federal eagle ammo are $0.94 us per bullet.), so i have to scratch the itch watching youtube, and in a totally ignorant and uninformed opinion maybe the myth of the tankgewehr seriusly injuring the soldier may be because of not positioning the butstock on the shoulder and leaving a gap causing the rifle to hit like a hammer, i think this is a very rookie mistake but due to stress it can happen (like if you have a metal x tons death machine charging against you) and it only has to happen once or twice to become a rumor between the soldiers and eventualy a myth. btw sorry for the broken english cheers to Mae and take care.

We didn't have the bayonet charge in bf3 but it was roughly the same tactic with the same potential outcome.
