  • In this video we look at the Korg Monologue, tryout some sounds, look at the features and take it apart. I will also go over some basics on using it and subtractive synthesis.
    Chapters Yo!
    00:00 - Start Prequel
    01:09 - Intro
03:22 - What is subtractive synthesis?
03:53 - The controls on the Monologue
    13:21 - Preset Demos
18:13 - Making some sounds from scratch
24:18 - Taking the Monologue apart
    25:32 - Aphex and Microtuning
    29:05 - Microtuning Demo
30:44 - Outro and Tune made entirely with the Monologue
The Monologue was designed in conjunction with Aphex Twin, he also created some of the presets, checkout the conversation he has with Korg engineer Tatsuya Takahashi here: warp.net/gb/editorial/richard...
Music heard in this video was composed and produced by me, except for a well know radio theme! First track (Rob Warner) uses mostly the Korg Monologue as the main instrument and last track is entirely Monologue.

I also bought mine a few years back, in making the video I found a fair few features on it I never knew about!

Duuuuude, I never even thought of changing tunings while a sequence was running! I figured im not musically knowledgeable enough to even mess with that part, but that's awesome!

In truth I didn't even think about that part of the synth either until reading through the Aphex - Tatsuya article. Seams cool though, after all nothing in the real world is precisely in tune and intonated.

I bought one last month. I can sit there for hours using in and really I’ve only scratched the surface.

Love this synth. First thing I did was delete all presets. Made about 80 so far. The only downside to this synth is the power connector in the back. It is so fiddly it shuts down if I slightly touch the chord, or move the synth. Definitely not worthy of live gigging.

      @bonzomusik  Рік тому +1

Not a fan of factory presets? yeah dc barrel connectors ain't the best, not noticed an issue with mine though, have you got the right sized connector? Its a bit of an odd none standard size, probably to make you buy the korg brand adapter.

I just got one. So far my biggest complaint is it doesn't sit flat. Maybe if I disassemble it, I can fix that.

@@christopher_ecclestone The four feet didn't sit flat on a flat surface. It seemed OK after a bit of pressure. Not a problem.
