I'm certain your brother would be pleased you've repaired that record deck and enjoying his records/music. Have a merry Xmas and healthy and prosperous New Year, John. My first stereo was an old mono Grundig valve deck. I extended the stylus wires (ceramic cartridge I installed) and attached them to two DIY BJT very small amps. I would lie on my back with two small open speakers near my ears listening to that new release - LedZep Vol1 - heard nothing like it - brilliant.

What a great period of music, the late 60's. Happy Holidays.

I just did the same operation on a 2 year "old" 1byone turntable (a somewhat simpler model with less vibration isolation and simpler platter bearings, but the same motor).
As noted by others, there are smart phone apps to test the wobble and flutter, and before the repair it gave me a 1.25% and worse reading. Something was definitely wrong. You could hear it.I did measure the input voltage to the motor, it was rock-solid but at ca 13V it was a bit higher than the expected 12V.
So I bought a similar looking motor on Amazon for ~10 bucks. It had the same, smaller pulley, but I did NOT bother to exchange the pulley. The potentiometers in the motor (in the holes with rubber dust-protection, one for 45 rpm and one for 33 1/3 rpm) have a wide enough range to correct the speed to fit the smaller pulley. Again, a phone app helps a lot to calibrate the speed. I would advise against messing with the pulley.
Post-repair, the app displayed a 0.15% wow reading, and the result was, as expected, audibly better. I wouldn't be surprised if the new motor has about the same life expectancy.... but at that price point I guess I don't care too much.

one thing you can do to set the speed is to use one of those RPM apps on your phone. you just drop your phone on the platter, and it will detect the speed that it's spinning around pretty accurately

Cool lp collection, agree late 60s to 80s are the best. Nice turntable, its okay for a stand alone unit but would be tempted to modify it using a better motor and amp. However, as it has sentimental value understandably would keep it as is.
Seasons greetings to you and thankyou for the amazing content and candid reviews.

Thanks isoguy. The new motor is better but still flutters a bit. Happy Holidays!

To make removing those pulleys easier put a conical tip on your soldering iron and place it in the hole where the shaft goes through the brass will expand and come off with practically no effort.

There's something similar to this turntable that I have seen on another channel that features Bluetooth that can stream both ways! It's also a fully automatic turn table with a motorised tone arm lift and a separate and vibration isolated speaker enclosure in it .... I think that it was mentioned that it was $100 from Amazon.. seemed pretty good for it's price, it's not my sort of thing but it definitely looked like a very good foot in the door if someone wanted to get into vinyl records.... I think the channel was VWestlife..... You get to see what's inside it, there's a lot more going on than this turntable.... The Chinese stuff seems to be getting better....

Hi john your running your stylus weight too high, at 3,5g, thats a LOT of tracking force, you´re going to ruin your phono cartidge and/or stylus, please turn the balance weight until you see 2g thats more than enough for that cartidge or any modern movinf magnet one, that balance weigth at the back off the tonearm sets the weight that the stykus applyes to the record, you may know that, just wanted to advice you that the current setting is at 3,5g almost double the weight recommended. The stylus and records are going to last and overweight (or too much thacking force) doesn´t sonud better than the propper weight. so if you lower that is a win win situation. Hope this helps. Great video. your videos are becoming better with time, I compared wirh your first videos, you improved so much I´m very proud of you. ) Sorry English is not my main language, in fact is terrible.

Needs to increase A LITTLE the speed . I have 2 turntables perfectly alined but the most of sound quality start from the cartridge and shape of that tiny-tiny diamond tip

Hi John I have a technical problem I can't solve as I can't do maths 😩 It's not a big problem but so annoying when you can't find a solution, it's a simple guitar tremolo with a weird fault if you have time I could post my email 🤔 best wishes and hope you have a nice Christmas 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
