I built my first metal detector at age 9 and I am turning 60 end of this year. I have never not found something... I have seen silver quarters pulled out of places detected for decades... Magnetism is a moving changing force and even the operator affects the field of the field they are in. Magnetic field and grassy field. I have detected ground that was so saturated with water and minerals that I was picking up echoes 10 ft away on a target. I've detected places that I have covered quite well in the past and found targets in the same location, the same settings and the same detector it's amazing how many factors are involved, you can't catch everything every time. Good luck and thank you.
Hey Ken! Great to hear that you've been at it so long. We bet you've had some great times and found some lovely things. Yes, isn't it strange how you can pass over a place so many times and only when things align perfectly (conditions, technique, equipment, etc) do you find the illusive things that were missed previously! Have a lovely day, and thanks for your comment!
@@crawfordsmetaldetectors what a week... Found a gold African pendant map and chain, found the owner Monday on craigslist lost and found. I looked through the other listings and saw a listing for lost wedding ring. Had her husband show me the places they were that evening and like always, on the way back to the car, ding, ding, ding, one diamond encrusted platinum wedding ring found. He had a $1,000 reward, I took 50 for gas her smile was Worth a million dollars... I think my smile was pretty priceless as well. this makes I think 26 items of value returned to original owner. I don't count cel phones. So many cel phones... They make them pretty water resistant, good thing.. it made my week... The look on peoples faces when something they never thought they would see again, is returned to them. Thanks. Ken.
One thing more I would like to add. Dig every signal no matter what. When that iron trash is pulled out of the soil, it allows other signals to be detected... Also check the inside of bottle caps for coins... Pop the dirt out the pop top... Found quite a few Mercury dimes that way...
Thanks for the video... Some good tips and information there. Regarding tides, I use an app on my mobile (tides near me) and covers most areas around the UK. Off down Anglesey this weekend, so fingers crossed 🤞. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Looking to get into this as I moved to the coast & have gotten rid of the notion I need a super expensive kit. Something I'm still confused about is if a find ends up in a museum under the treasure act do they offer you a monetary reward ?
Hello. Yes, you're right you dont need super expensive kit. For beach detecting you can start get really good performance in the Minelab Vanquish range which starts at prices of £239. www.crawfordsmd.com/metal-detectors/minelab In terms of finds, it is on a case by case basis, but typically if you found something on the beach it would be owned by the crown and they would sell it to a museum and offer the detectorist a payment from this sale. It is typically 50% but it depends on the land you're on. If you are detecting on someone elses land (from whom you have permission) you need to create an agreement with them over ownership prior to detecting. How are you going to split the proceeds of the sale, and at what point does the land owner take a percentage of your finds.
I'm really liking these videos. Brilliant intro for anyone getting into beach detecting 😊🙌
Thank you! We're glad you approve!

Don't get caught out by quick sand.
