    When the company grows and the position's statement of work may grow the requirement of training should grow as well. If the employee is still valued then put the value into the employee and invest accordingly.

    Great information as usual Dan, but the music is too loud. I have a background in audio engineering and would like to offer some advice to you so others can get your message without distraction. Have the person(s) that do the audio editing for the videos to turn the music down 2-4 decibels and also use side-chain compression. The side-chain compressor will automatically lower the volume of the music everytime you speak; making your voice standout as the focal point. The process is known as ducking. Hope this helps. Looking forward to more great content.

    Every quarter you regularly fire closers that are under performing everyone else?! What if you have it refined enough that everybody is an A player? Also, I would think that this would create a toxically competitive atmosphere where no one wants to help someone struggling that just needs some coaching..

      @orrepaste straw man..I never said just anybody works for him and I didn't say they were unproductive.. He said he just fires the bottom 10% EVEN IF they are actually still performing well, just less than everyone else.. and QUARTERLY.. This seems very short sighted, IMO.. Go back and watch the video again and then read my comments more slowly.. Good luck!

    It depends on what kind of business, also the scale. Frankly, people who start from the company, are the ones to lay off as a CEO pov. As a employee pov, if you stay in the same company like 5 years or even 10 years, trust me your skills mostly would not level up because you are handling the same shit, challenge gets less over years than you become dumb, especially when you climb to a manager level which you don't do anything no more. One thing you should learn is what comes around goes around. Dan fires under performing 20%, but also true performers will leave a company every 2-3 years to keep themselves fresh. Me myself, never work for a company over 2 years, to stay competitive and more leverage. However most people are afraid of leaving a company, which makes Dan's perspective powerful as he says"let them compete each other." And to be honest, I am with Dan with his idea only if I am managing less than 100 people. If it is over a 100, the company must learn more on investing people and flexible time, which is super hard.

I have heard making fun of even Drive By Window services and they have rushed inside customers making requested for item selections for their sandwiches and notice employesd become frsustrated. I have nevet seen this anywhere so frequently. Management needs to train and ascertain for good services.

    There are other factors to consider: does that employee have enough redundancies, enough competent help, stable/supportive working environment, good clients, competent bosses, work/home life balance, health issues, etc. All these things can have you settling out of court, if you fire someone without addressing any underlying problems. I've watched too many fortune 500 companies trade experienced labor for cheap graduates, absorb high demand positions prematurely, replace the ceo every few years, get bad press in the news, take away benefits, overextend individual workloads and wonder why the employee isn't performing. Liabilities should be fired. But, assets should be given everything they need to succeed because they have given everything to be a high value employee.

      This is more logical than firing a people just like a snap of your finger. An employee who doesn't embraces the company's value completely doesn't mean he doesn't fit in the company. Perhaps he's just seeing it in other perspective that if someone higher in the hierarchy would know what he's thinking, it could bring such difference.

    Hi, Dan, I do support the idea that the Leader needs to be able to take tough people related decisions, and let some folks go, especially, if you notice that those folks toxify the work environment or started visibly under-perform. However, listening to you if 10-20% of your people know that they would be laid off, as this is the established and an expected annual process, don't you think that this would create a tense and a toxic, competitive work environment and a company culture?

  • @terat1227
    @terat1227 5 років тому

    It's never an easy decision so it's good to seem some logic on it. If you take an all star NBA team/A player team, someone is always going to be underperformer by default as a bell curve. If you are always firing the bottom 10%, it can results in eating your own or backstabbing, number padding, people stealing credit to stay on top. Dan Lok got the results so I can't really criticize.

    A) Guy that seems capable in doing his task but is really rude, inconsiderate and mean to others.
    B) Quite a slow learner worker, probably need a little more guidance but willing to help others in need, show empathy and nice to others.

      See, as a CEO myself i would like to share my openion with you. See, the main aim is to grow profits within our company. Who brings more profits within the company is what matters.
      When i have to choose the senior most employee of the company, i will choose the one who is very trustable AND he is very skilled and knows how things are to be done, he should have the power to control many employees under his guidance. Option A seems a better option here.
      Whether person is rude or not doesnt really matter in business, only profits matters. Although a good peaceful enviorment within the company is a very good thing but not the most preferable thing.
      Option B is fine at low posts. But skilled people matters more at higher posts. We cant keep a slow learner at big posts.
