This video is about When To Fire Someone
• When To Fire Someone
When the company grows and the position's statement of work may grow the requirement of training should grow as well. If the employee is still valued then put the value into the employee and invest accordingly.
Great information as usual Dan, but the music is too loud. I have a background in audio engineering and would like to offer some advice to you so others can get your message without distraction. Have the person(s) that do the audio editing for the videos to turn the music down 2-4 decibels and also use side-chain compression. The side-chain compressor will automatically lower the volume of the music everytime you speak; making your voice standout as the focal point. The process is known as ducking. Hope this helps. Looking forward to more great content.
@soapfanaddict Hi, I appreciate your comment and sharing your thoughts. I'm glad I was able to provide something valuable to you. Much success to you.
Every quarter you regularly fire closers that are under performing everyone else?! What if you have it refined enough that everybody is an A player? Also, I would think that this would create a toxically competitive atmosphere where no one wants to help someone struggling that just needs some coaching..
I agree
Pretty sure there were already qualified before you can work with him. Its a fair and learning environment not some willy rub against each other carnival.
@@orrepaste huh?
@@ryantfinchum What huh? You mean anyone can just walk in and work for him? NO THEY ARE ALREADY QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB. Kicking the unproductive out is normal in business world. EDS used to fire 10% of manager every year. Its not a new thing. Id rather have a team of Spartans than a bunch of weak Persians
@orrepaste straw man..I never said just anybody works for him and I didn't say they were unproductive.. He said he just fires the bottom 10% EVEN IF they are actually still performing well, just less than everyone else.. and QUARTERLY.. This seems very short sighted, IMO.. Go back and watch the video again and then read my comments more slowly.. Good luck!
As soon as they start to back stab you and you don't trust them anymore love your videos man
Attitude is SOo IMPORTANT! 💚💚💚
Thank you so much Dan ..
i have people that i need to let go in my organization, they were my close friend, but their attitude are toxic to the team. Thank you to give me clear perspective..
finally i take them out, my team size decrease from 12 to 6, my team performance not slowing, and unpredictably full of high positive energy..
Business is tough, however, you gotta do what you gotta do.
True.
It s a hard decision to must take as a CEO. Just one more thing to do is to talk with the employee, convince him and show him thr opportuny for you two. It s a part of the game.
Hi Dan,
It's really sensitive content, impressed by your courage and boldness.
Thanks Dan! Goes without saying, but you are an A player in this game of life for sure. Carry on, the world will be a better place for it. I wonder if we will cross paths one day?
If someone doesn’t fit your company values get them out FAST. Don’t let these people ruin the rest of your team. Let them free, they will likely find a better place for themselves to work where they fit in with company values.
Great tips! You have to be ready make tough decisions sometimes! Keep it up Dan!🔥
It depends on what kind of business, also the scale. Frankly, people who start from the company, are the ones to lay off as a CEO pov. As a employee pov, if you stay in the same company like 5 years or even 10 years, trust me your skills mostly would not level up because you are handling the same shit, challenge gets less over years than you become dumb, especially when you climb to a manager level which you don't do anything no more. One thing you should learn is what comes around goes around. Dan fires under performing 20%, but also true performers will leave a company every 2-3 years to keep themselves fresh. Me myself, never work for a company over 2 years, to stay competitive and more leverage. However most people are afraid of leaving a company, which makes Dan's perspective powerful as he says"let them compete each other." And to be honest, I am with Dan with his idea only if I am managing less than 100 people. If it is over a 100, the company must learn more on investing people and flexible time, which is super hard.
Keep Top 80%..Noted!
Never get attached to your employees it's very easy fore to fire people
I like how Dan covers all business aspects, including staff related matters.
Solid tips Dan.
Firing employees is done with due process. It's easy if the employee is under probationary and difficult if already a regular. Or else, they'll go file a complaint to labor and employment department.
Good Morning Dan You Rock!
Real action to real issues.
At the end of the day you have to think about what's more important:
Your well-being or you're employee's feelings
#DonLok thank you
I like your all video man thank you 👍👍🤘
These tips will be helpful when I will have some employees 🔥
I was just thinking the same. Gl getting there!
You're already planning on firing them? Lol
@@MUP-kn4np 😂😂😂🤣
Thank you so much, We needed this advice, because we already have employees and we Hope not, But we may lay out some of them In the Future If someone didn't embrace the company's and his team mates Values ! Thank you again Dan !
If the egg breaks from outside, it dies. If the egg breaks from inside, it lives. Why do some employees not realize leaving would be beneficial for them?
I feel this. I'm a A player 100% but my bss keeps B and C players, I have to take over their projects they are not able to complete on time with required quality. He comes to me with a big smile and with encouragment to ask me to take over theor projects. But guess what they ar epaid the same than me. I'm getting sick of this.
Damn, it's just in time. Thanks! But I'm wondering how it happens, when you're focusing on some situation at a time and "bam", there's some new video on yt, or article somewhere on web/fb/etc and you didn't even searched for that, and in most of the time it helps a lot or gives a clear answer.
Now that you mentioned Starbucks. I believe most of Subways employess are rude. I mean it. I go and travel 160 miles regularly. I like their soups but stop going to Subway restaurants because of several rude employees and tje services... I have heard making fun of even Drive By Window services and they have rushed inside customers making requested for item selections for their sandwiches and notice employesd become frsustrated. I have nevet seen this anywhere so frequently. Management needs to train and ascertain for good services.
*If the values, beliefs and integrity don’t coincide with work ethics, a person has nothing to do on your team.*
O'SSÉIN - Master Your Mind With Me I completely agree! It will ruin the workplace for other employees if you let them stay
00:38 thank you! Yazz..
There are other factors to consider: does that employee have enough redundancies, enough competent help, stable/supportive working environment, good clients, competent bosses, work/home life balance, health issues, etc. All these things can have you settling out of court, if you fire someone without addressing any underlying problems. I've watched too many fortune 500 companies trade experienced labor for cheap graduates, absorb high demand positions prematurely, replace the ceo every few years, get bad press in the news, take away benefits, overextend individual workloads and wonder why the employee isn't performing. Liabilities should be fired. But, assets should be given everything they need to succeed because they have given everything to be a high value employee.
In my opinion the person who is not willing to understand and embrace the company's core values should be fired immediately. 🔫👔
i got a new manager. And iknow she will go after me and she do not want me in her department. So i moved to different department. After when new people come and left. They could not work with her. Then she come to me 2times ask for come back to her. I told her reason and i never want for you.Now she cant find a gòod person.Which can do this job.eell done Dan good video
It's a sad day when it comes to cutting someone loose :( regardless of why.
Thank you! I needed this
Don't even have employes but still watching.Dan rocks
Why you don't try to qualify your employees or give them an adequate job?
This is more logical than firing a people just like a snap of your finger. An employee who doesn't embraces the company's value completely doesn't mean he doesn't fit in the company. Perhaps he's just seeing it in other perspective that if someone higher in the hierarchy would know what he's thinking, it could bring such difference.
jWohlfahrt switching to a more appropriate job is so much better
Great videos with good decision taking advices , sir please make a video how not to make attachments with clients if they leave or quit your services !!
I'm going to fire my mathematical teacher at the end of this quarter i can't understand nothing & have waited long.
It’s not difficult to fire those who don’t care. It’s VERY! difficult to fire those who can’t keep up😢
Can you make a video on ten tips for starting a business from the ground up
Hi, Dan, I do support the idea that the Leader needs to be able to take tough people related decisions, and let some folks go, especially, if you notice that those folks toxify the work environment or started visibly under-perform. However, listening to you if 10-20% of your people know that they would be laid off, as this is the established and an expected annual process, don't you think that this would create a tense and a toxic, competitive work environment and a company culture?
It's never an easy decision so it's good to seem some logic on it. If you take an all star NBA team/A player team, someone is always going to be underperformer by default as a bell curve. If you are always firing the bottom 10%, it can results in eating your own or backstabbing, number padding, people stealing credit to stay on top. Dan Lok got the results so I can't really criticize.
GREAT SIFU 👍👌
Whos here before 1 million views?!
@chief tp yea😊
Sometimes you have to fire Your boss too
Mr. Lok, I'm a 16 years old student and have been following your videos for weeks. Is it possible for me to start an entrepreneurship career despite I'm not yet in the legal age? Greetings from Asia.
age doesn't matter, learn skills that can create value in return for high income
If it is legal in your country their is no reason you could not.
Always motivated by your speeches❤
Thank you Sir for that
Dan you are truly a master talker!
He knows more than the Academic legends
Thank you Sifu.
When considering the different personality profiles of both sides during these situations, could you provide some guidance on some approaches?
Nobody’s going to be reading this far but if you are and don’t know about the 4 gem personality profiles yet, watch Sifu Dan Lok’s UA-cam video:
“Discovering Your Inner Personalities - Four Basic Personality Types - NOT DISC Personality Profiling”
What do you do when you’re building your family’s business and your parent(Boss) is the negative person? I am the sales manager and go above and beyond for every single customer but my boss(dad) is all about the short term money and doesn’t think long term or serving the customer.
I would like to start my own business in the future but I currently do not have enough cash to do that and I am slowly mentally breaking down working for someone who does not put the employees and customers first.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, your videos help me a lot. Thank you
Why I'm watching this when i don't have a business... i don't even work lol!!
Thank you for the message.
When you train somebody, you're investing your time and resources in that person or team.
How do you make sure that they stay with you so that you can reap the benefits?
This is fucking good as usual.
it's easy to fire people when you are the boss
I want to do a poll. How many people do you think Dan employs?
Guys need some opinions here.
Which would you rather keep in your company?
A) Guy that seems capable in doing his task but is really rude, inconsiderate and mean to others.
B) Quite a slow learner worker, probably need a little more guidance but willing to help others in need, show empathy and nice to others.
I've job hopped a lot and most of these places prefer the option A type of person. What do you people think?
See, as a CEO myself i would like to share my openion with you. See, the main aim is to grow profits within our company. Who brings more profits within the company is what matters.
When i have to choose the senior most employee of the company, i will choose the one who is very trustable AND he is very skilled and knows how things are to be done, he should have the power to control many employees under his guidance. Option A seems a better option here.
Whether person is rude or not doesnt really matter in business, only profits matters. Although a good peaceful enviorment within the company is a very good thing but not the most preferable thing.
Option B is fine at low posts. But skilled people matters more at higher posts. We cant keep a slow learner at big posts.
@@udaykhanna1 thank you for the great response.
Employee A needs coaching on attitude. Dan will terminate productive employees with poor attitudes if they refuse to change. Check out his video on this: How To Be A Better Leader & What Great Leaders Actually Do

@@chadelliottfahlman-htcgrad7866 agreed. Thank you and have good days ahead. 👍
speechless MrLock no comment bt it's hard bt it have to be done
When you have an employee for many years and his is just not good for the job but very loyal and friendly. You know that by firing him, you destroy his life, because no one will hire him again because of his age. So don't you feel bad leting him go, even tho he is holding your business back by staying??
It sounds like this employee is compatible with the corporate culture. Check out Dan's video on How To Be A Better Leader & What Great Leaders Actually Do
.
No one will hire him? I bet you could be a reference on his resume and allow him to work with you until he finds a better fit. Team work. 😉
Perhaps unconventional, but logical for him and could solve your problem emotionally.
Nice video!
I was waiting for you to stand up and dance to the music while you’re at it. Just skip the whole talk thing, volume up and dance for us. This is a music video after all.
I disagree with some of the stuff which you have said. The culture of hiring the underperformers would breed a culture of toxic competitiveness and just an overall decreased morale. As Simon Sinek says, don't fire for underperformance but rather only when they show disrespect or lack of care for the business. If someone is underperforming, help them to improve first.
Yes very well said
I have just fired my psychotherapist.
This video come in the right time but I still not sure if I should do it at this moment
I highly recommend you check out the video Dan mentioned in the playlist. It is How To Be A Better Leader & What Great Leaders Actually Do
. This will clarify how he grades employees. Remember: There is never an easy time to make a hard decision.
I cant believe that Dan is a High school dropout. I think He is a philosopher
Won't firing the bottom 20% raise incentives for back stabbings?
instead of firing an inefficient, unnecessary or toxic worker keep them to do all kind of odd jobs for peanuts
What to do when I know someone is holding back but letting them go is really difficult??
Hi Dan, its me Kakubizi Saddy
Is Playing music a high income skill? i have this feeling that i have discovered myself at 28 years that i can play guitar and sing, but i am still a bit nervous about it.

Hi Dan, I've been approaching many people to close an Insurance Sale, even though I'm educating them with better benefits, I'm unable to make it. Everyone says will see, I'll look at it later.... confused how to make it.
haven't seen Desmond around lately..
They not performing at what level? Bully manager will never have enough and push employee to the limit. Its bulling and forceful sacking from job. Makes me sick from management like that.
If you make 10mil more, hire more people! and not F*** ride on one man.
Nice video Dan lok 😍 😍
When cn i receive my unlock it book? Cnt wait to read it.
Based on performance would be my reason.
EXCELLENT 👍
You just have to say:
