    Didn't even mention hip belts, to me this is a CRITICAL item for a backpack to have, especially as you mentioned carrying 30 lbs of gear in that scenario it's a must have. Only time you don't need them is just a commuter bag for your laptop. If I'm walking more than a mile I want a hip belt, I'd keep that in mind when looking for a "do all" backpack.

  • @stevanoutdoor
    @stevanoutdoor 10 місяців тому +3

    I do agree and that's why I have daypacks for different things. Commuter and outdoors. I can go to a business meeting in the morning and into the outdoors in the afternoon. I don't want to repack some hybride backpack every time. So I keep them separated and I just grab the bag I need for the planned activity.

    I am an outdoor enthusiast and am addicted to your videos my friend. So glad you reviewed this bag because Huckberry just slashed the price and I pulled the trigger on it. Also picked up the 2 day assault pack from REI to compare the two as a second stowaway bag for traveling to Europe this year but after watching your video I think I will be going with the Huckberry colab and the 2 dap will be going back to REI. Thanks for a thorough review of this awesome looking pack and keep the videos coming!

    G'day Aaron, a very useful vid mate, well done. Regardless of the application, I demand good organisation; even on the trail there's always those knick knacks that dont fit nicely into a small kit/pouch, say for first aid, fire and the like.
    A rain cover is a must for an EDC job IMO ..... though on the trail I dont care since I'll have a poncho, (stops water from seeping between your back and your pack).
    Also the bottom needs to be waterproof, even on a commute if you've cause to put it down, perhaps to retrieve an item, ...... its no good having a 1 season pack ; ) Cheers Duke.

    First thing I do with a pack is stuff it with old blankets, then tape off 2in from bottom, then flex seal it. Dry an repeat.

    I like a pack with no zips because they eventually break. I like the ones with the clips And a main pocket on the outside and 2 of those stretching nets on the sides. And yet I have yet to find the perfect one. OH and I do a lot of commuting on a push biker Carry Wait up to 30.

      And the falcon is 70 DOLLARS CHEAPER... the 70 dollars allows me to add a grey man rain cover , extra pouches , extra straps ,etc.etc.etc....
      It's a no brainer...seriously...

    Great video. I love this style of video.
    Just wondering, have you ever done a colour themed edc? I just bought a blue hub pouch from Alpaka, so I’m looking for blue edc items. For the most part it’s easy, but I’m kind stumped on a blue pocket knife or multi tool. Yes, I am a fan of Benchmade, but I’m not a fan of the bugout. Ideas?

    Aaron, I've reached a different conclusion about load lifters. In my experience, load lifters are marketing gimmicks that are being added as a visible "upgrade" to push sales when, in fact, they are utterly useless unless 3 criteria are met.
    A) The pack has supportive hip belt designed to put weight on the hip bones.
    B) The pack has a rigid frame (external, internal, framesheet) that transfers weight to the hip belt.
    C) The frame of the pack and the load lifter strap attachment point extend above the shoulder to roughly ear level, allowing the load lifter to make a 45 degree angle.
    It is only when these 3 conditions are met that the load lifter can do its job of using the frame as a lever to pull the pack forward so the weight doesn't pull the shoulder back.
    IMO, load lifters on medium to small packs are like hydration ports. They look like a good feature to inexperienced hikers so companies have to add them so they don't loose sales to companies who include them. But they do nothing. Matching the shape of the shoulder straps to the individual and using a sternum strap (or running vest style strap) will move loads to the chest and hug the torso and will make more of a difference than load lifters in this size of pack IMO.
    Great video. You've come a long way in you style over the years. Keep up the great work.

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  10 місяців тому +1

      Thank so much for the comment and appreciate the perspective. Hip belts aren’t bad for heavy loads, but I don’t use them on sub 20lbs load usually. And I do notice a difference when I don’t have load lifters.

    • @DIYDad1
      @DIYDad1 6 місяців тому

      You're right on with this, I'd also add that hip belts are a crucial design element if there's going to be any degree of hiking use with a backpack. I've hiked miles and miles without a hip belt backpack it's doable but your level of comfort is greatly sacrificed.

    Another nice pack although still missing some of the things i like in a pack, Australia here mate it's always hot where i am and if i don't have a pack with a water bag in it or a camelbak than i'm walking around holding a 600ml to 1L water bottle that i'm constantly drinking out of and refilling especially during summer on our 30c to 48c days..

  •  10 місяців тому +2

    More and more I used to see videos for organization backpacks and more and more I do not like :/
    It's like you have one backpack for 1 some specialized thing, just one bag in a very little user box so you need 100 bags for all your needs
    => why not going to a backpack size X (depending your average/standard need) and some pouches inside ?

Second of the last 24 videos posted over the last two months, 4 videos were of items that cost over $200, and of those 4 videos one item I don’t recommend, the mora Ashwood and one I had some major issues with sizing on the big Agnes pack. And finally the last day pack I did a video on was a $50 Gregory and love that thing for the price. Hope that helps thank for watching and the comment.

      @@richardhenry1969I spent $280 on the mora Ashwood and $240 on the Big agnas. The Giant mouse and mystery ranch were sent. So 50% I don’t ever hid the ball on that. And just because a gear item is sent my way means nothing. Go want my videos on the Gerber scout (hated the steel choice and destroyed them)…SRM pocket knife ( didn’t like it and didn’t recommend it)…sog ether/provider (highlighted it that the sheath sucks and it’s not a good value)… I could go on and those we sent in. Honesty and showing pros and cons of an item is what I do. If I wasn’t honest this channel would exist.
