I've carried a 2dap as my daily work pack since December 2020 doing backcountry trail maintenance, wilderness stewardship, and Rx fire. The main mod I did was replacing the waist belt with an alpha one niner belt, and adding a radio pouch, rip away blowout kit, a USFS water bottle pouch, and also my silky zübat 330 and hard hat live semi permanently clipped to it. I've burnt 1000's of acres of land with this pack on my back despite it not being a NFPA 1974 pack, I've dragged it through hundreds and hundreds of miles of briars and branches. I've filled it with up to 70lbs of gear at some points in/on it. The only damage I've managed to do so far are some broken buckles, a soot stain from a hot drip torch, and a small hole in the lid from the dogs of my chainsaw that's been tenacious taped for like 3 years now. It's been dropped on hot ashes, fished out of a lake, frozen to a log, thrown off a lighthouse, and bathed in gasoline and bar oil on more than one occasion, and I would be shocked if I didn't get at least another 5-10 years of use out of it.

One of the BEST features of Mystery Ranch packs is the adjustable yokes. Each bag can be customized to each individual's torso length. Best bags I've ever owned. My other favorite thing about MR is the one pull opening top. Absolutely genius the way these bags open. Your channel has been a savior for me. Well done sir.

Thanks for sharing, Aaron. I really like a lot of the features that Mystery Ranch packs (sorry) in, but I've never been able to overcome the sticker shock. Maybe one day, when I see the one that seems to cover all my particular bases, I'll splurge on it.

Definitely seems like a nice pack! I've always liked military surplus packs even though they usually aren't built for comfort, they are some of the most rugged and toughest packs on the market. The last flea market I went to, there was a tabke that was nothing but military surplus and military related items, tons of packs, all used of course. They had a mystery ranch pack, not sure what model it was, but they wanted $120 for it and next to it they had the FILBE rucksack with the assault pack included as well as the side pouches, good condition for $130. I couldn't turn that down for the $130, and to be honest, it quickly replaced my Alice pack and my Osprey hiking pack as I really liked using the two inconjuction with one another. I can hike to my camping spot with the packs, unload and set up camp, but then leave the large pack behind and hike with the assault pack which has the items I need for the hike as well as some extras in case things don't go as planned. I guess I put modularity and multi-functional value ahead of comfort and weight. It's not super comfortable and the large pack is rediculously heavy at around ten pounds empty, but the assault pack is light weight and surprisingly not bad in comfort for long hikes. As far as organization goes, I rarely ever use the packs organization, I always use individual sacks or bags so like toiletry bags or smaller molle pouches to organize my gear. Works great that way as I like to transfer stuff from one pack to another, but I also always know what has what in it.
Keep up the good work bud, been a longtime subscriber and I have always enjoyed your content!

FILBE belt works great, no molle but you can slide on a belt pouch if you like. My 2DAP is coyote so the color match is a bonus. Every pack I have either has a loop for a hydro sleeve or I add one. Then I clip on a 'biner with a lanyard for tiny flashlight and emergency whistle- the flashlight is great for finding stuff in the pack at night. That 'biner works for keys as well and keep them at the top of the pack.

I like bags that gave organization so everything isnt getting tossed around. But on my 5.11 rush 12 there is a lot of pockets (too many) and have definitely lost and forgot thongs inside of it.

One year under my belt with the 2DAP. My intention was for EDC and to use on short business trips, with a single compression bag for clothes, and supplemental MR Zoid bags for all items I don't want floating around the bag (e.g. toiletries, med supplies, snacks, tools, etc). In this configuration, I can unload some internal organization in my rental car/hotel and the bag converts to my briefcase for meetings. It has lived up to its every expectation. Few gripes but one is that if you extend the futura harness more than a couple notches up, the top cover does not want to lay back when open (i.e. the upper yoke inhibits the range to which you can open the top). Not a deal breaker but surely a pain when you have to hold the top open with one hand and rummage with the other. Just returned from a three day business trip where the 2DAP was the only luggage I needed to carry and it fit under the airplane seat. Gone are my days of a rollerboard AND a backpack on short trips.

G'day Aaron, quality product no doubt and really dig the yoke, bladder access as well as the roomy top and internal water bottle pouches; however ..... that "Y" zip set up just doesn't do it for me ..... because, I want anything external, (certainly a med kit, maybe a hatchet or indeed anything else), to sit in the center and maintain as symmetrical a balance as possible, nor do I want extra things hang'n off the side, just a SS bottle on one side and a Grayl on the other, which in fairness, this pack would do very well.
Also; cant beat clamshell for access/organisation IMO.
I'm with ya mate, a padded waist belt, (with a pocket or two), is still desirable for us civvies, though at least the attachment points are there and a simple strap is better than noth'n. Cheers Duke.

I have this pack and really like it for 1-2 day hikes and fishing outings. However, I agree with you concerning the waist belt. I have a pacemaker so anytime I can get weight off my shoulders it is great. So last week I was in the 5.11 Tactical store near me and low and behold they have a new item. It is a padded waist belt that attaches to all my packs with sub-par belts. I picked up two of them and they work great. The padding is along the hips and has molle webbing for attachments. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Another excellent video! For a short term hiking bag this seems excellent. But i am curious, what would you recommend for a longer trip like a week or so, something where you'd be traveling farther distances and need enough supplies to see you through. If you have a recommendation I'd love to hear it and if you have a video out on it even better lol. I tend to worry about a lot of the larger hiking packs I've seen at places like basspro and others, they don't seem very durable, especially if you load them down heavily with supplies....i get light weight for sure, but what's the point if it seems like it could tear once it's actually loaded with supplies? 😅

I don't understand the obsession with these tactical backpacks. As someone that bought a few to hike in, they're not good for hiking. Any dedicated hiking backpack would blow this out of the water. Why would someone purchase this for hiking?

    These packs are MASSIVELY OVERPRICED
And the quality is no better than various military issue packs .
The yoke is identical to the 511 packs which are 70% cheaper...
Many maxpedition packs have superior build quality to mystery ranch packs ...
My berghaus crusader pack out performs all other packs and
    That's just a fact .
    Don't get robbed .

Thanks for your comment and your opinion. Of course MR are high cost. But I will say 511 packs are NOT the same. I own the Rush and Amp series of 511 packs and they are not as comfortable by a long shot.

511 packs aren't in the same universe. But then again not everyone needs an MR pack and what it offers.
Theres a reason MR and Nimrod supplied fire crews with packs. There's simply nothing built like that. Same deal with handmade custom boots such as Whites, Wesco, Nick's, and other brands found in the PNW. Some products are just done right and at the top of the pack, no pun intended.

I was in no way suggesting that the 511 packs are the same build quality .I said the yoke is the same . Other packs have equal or superior build quality to m.r ..maxpedition for example... or for larger packs my Berghaus crusader for instance ..issued to special forces around the world...
Like I said these mystery ranch packs are WAYYY OVER PRICED and will only appeal to label obsessed posers .
The boots debate is different ,but in a similar way my lowa combat gtx boots out last snd out perform every other leather boot on earth...but cost under
      £ 300 ....
The label inside dates that these boots should be inspected by a lowa service center every 8 years ....enough said .
