That is really cool. I'm 70 years old and when I was about 20 I got into braiding leather string, I knew every braids there was possibly could be round square triangle. I completely forgot how to do any of that😢
Lost wax casting is effective with a number of different metals, gold, silver, bronze and more. I don't work with gold in my studio but I hear it is fairly easy to cast.
My wax pot contains a mix. All of it is scraps or recycled wax from other processes in the studio. I'd say at least 50% of it is injection wax like this: www.riogrande.com/product/joes-new-injection-wax-pink/700652GP/?code=700652. The other 50% is sheet wax, paraffin wax and a little sticky wax. As long as you are warming it in water (122 f.) before you bend it, most wax mixes should work.
