    This is my dream, having my own 3D printer and cast my own designs from my home! This is so badass. I’ve been teaching myself for about three years and doing it all by hand, and thankfully found a jeweler who casts them for me ( and gives me greatly needed tips and criticisms) it’s an expensive hobby but gosh I wish I was better. Really wish there was a class I could take in technique

    • @blinkie1114
      @blinkie1114 Місяць тому

      @@mete1099 I called so many places, most of them wouldn’t do it for such a small order. But I found a local family owned jeweler just a father and son and they agreed to using the old, centrifugal method. It’s not as accurate as the vacuumed one, but I just pay them to do it. Mostly it’s out of the goodness of their hearts and it takes a long time, a month or two for them to get around to it.

    what a workshop....stunning....so many machines and all so fancy and it goes to show this has come a long way since I was a student doing my fine arts degree where I chose silversmithing as my major. I loved it but wow...my fingers were so sensitive with all the filing we did, it was worth it and my favourite was casting. I know it was complicated with the kiln and hot wax and getting the measurements according to what you were doing. This has brought it all back but with a new eyes now that I see there is great advancement with such machinery and tools ...I loved it and thank you for such an insightful tutorial

    I have been watching videos about this for days. Your vid does an excellent job of tying things all together so that it makes sense from start to finish. I am interested in making small brass or bronze parts for some models that currently make use of resin printed parts that are not quite durable enough. I think that this is the direction that I need to go. Not cheap to start from scratch (I already have the printer and associated support equipment) but it seems like the only way to reliably get accurate small metallic castings. Thanks for the nice vid, it was quite helpful! As are the links.

    I'd love to know more about the limitations of sand casting, I know lost wax casting is better quality and you can basically do whatever you want, but I'm trying to decide which designs I can sand cast and which I need to send somewhere to be lost cast.

    Wow, do you have to re-do all that clean up to the wax piece every time? I would hope you could make some kind of mold to create those.

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  Місяць тому +2

      You can make a mold if you are going to be making a lot of a design but if you are only doing a one off then a mold wouldn't matter much

      You only have to cure this 3d printed resin like this

    Awesome video. Straight to the point and no beating around the bush. Quick question though, is there a specific type of wax you use for the stems and sprue trees? And also for filling in the holes of the 3d model?

    Can the wasted train resin be reused or is it the same as a regular two part resin that once it's mixed it's activated and that's it. I guess it just looks so much like wax that it makes me ask! Lol.

      No any cured resin is just waste and can't be reused.

    What a great, concise video. I've been trying for a few months to get a perfect cast of my wax jewelry I keep getting partial casts. I have no idea what exactly I'm doing wrong.
    What temperature do you recommend for casting silver pieces? And brass? I think you said in the video you'd have a chart in the description for different metals, but I can't see it

    So the wax from the mould is in the plaster cast? Wouldn’t it get in the way when you pour in the molten metal? Where does it go when it melts away?

    could you cast multiple Cuban links for a chain all at once? Or like a whole chain altogether?

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  Рік тому +2

      You can do individual links and people do that all the time but as a whole chain would be hard to support to make sure it all doesn't fuse together

    So I have experience with injection molding and was looking into expand into metal casting. Is there any reason that you can't/shouldn't make a negative mold with the printer. Then use the mold to do a wax injection and continue from there. saving the special resin and also (at-least injected plastic) comes out pretty clean saving cleaning time. (for higher quantity with less variance, is my thinking)

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  Рік тому +2

      You can do that but you can also make a mold from a cleaned up rings and get the same results. You can use it to inject wax and make them ready quick

      @@GomeowCreations I actually have recently had a lot of projects with broken herringbone gears (tolerance doesn't need to be too tight, I have no 4th axis to mill and no clue if its possible on a lathe). So I was thinking this the next best way. just knew ring makers used this method. I have stuff ordered to test it out just "researching". But thank you for your response.
