  • We had a successful weekend completing our second (brown) coat of natural hydraulic lime plaster on the exterior of our straw bale house. Two long days of stuccoing, with a lot of prep work before and all the cleaning (scrubbing!) afterwards makes for a long process. We have one more coat to do and we will be DONE plastering... for now ;) Thank you all for watching - please like and subscribe to our channel if you haven't done so we truly appreciate it!!

You two are amazing people. I am not just talking about building your own house and how well it has turned out so far. The most amazing thing is that you are doing it together. You have a common dream, you put in the labor together. You show that you respect one another for your own abilities, knowledge, contributions, and accomplishments. Despite the hard work, stress, the weather, etc. your strong relationship is the glue that holds the house, the family, kids together. The documentary of your project is the most complete and instructional I've found. But this documentary also includes your love and relationship for one another that every couple out there can learn from. I hope to be able to meet and shake your hands one day to personally congratulate you for a job well done. Until then, best wishes to your family.

I'm loving every moment of your house build. Next year when (hopefully lumber has dropped or stabilized) we begin, I will remember your Journey and know that no matter what.....YOU GUYS made it and so can I!!! So, until then, it's on with planting fruit trees and getting the garden space prepared. Thanks again for sharing the Journey. Your family is amazing and the house is Beautiful...

Your house looks amazing. You all should be extremely proud of what you have accomplished. And to get as many camera angles and POV B roll shots as you do. I'm in awe. As Yvonne would say, " weiter so" 👍🏻

I just got through doing my first straw bale house I'm a professional plaster it is very labor intensive more so than just regular cement plaster that finish coat on the inside and the outside looks Dynamite I mixed it one bag of Esther 2.5/ and 150 lb of white silica sand that was my mix I would suggest doing this in early spring or late fall way too hot to be doing this right now

Love this video series and the house. What is the expected level of maintenance for the stucco/plaster? I'm planning a new build and like strawbale but worried about excessive upkeep of the walls.

Natural Hyrdaulic lime is something you could look into but it has been around for hundreds of years and some buildings are still standing. as far as I know it is very durable!
