  • Alex Polizzi and Oliver Peyton head to Leicester, a city famed for its wealth of Indian restaurants. But with almost 200 to choose from, why would you eat at Lilu, described as a fine dining Indian restaurant? Lilu is run by foodie first-timer Pratik who always dreamt of opening a restaurant with his mum. Having sadly missed the opportunity to fulfill the dream before she died, Pratik was determined to go ahead and open his first restaurant to honour her memory.

Gosh this was sad at first. Condolences to Prati and his family. I’m so glad Alex is empathetic. As I’m sure, she has had to deal with a gamut of emotions from owners and customers and communities. It’s intense, the formula it takes for success and staying on top of it. Aweeee he loves his mom. The SOS is brilliant. Thank you.

My guess is that they couldn't factor in the cost of hiring staff to replace his wife - who was working 2 jobs, as well as other staff to accommodate the increase in customers - too narrow a profit margin. Plus, the hours worked are killing....! Sorry, to hear they closed - they could at least, have sold the business if successful.

A great episode. Already love Alex - add Oliver Peyton and what could be better? A wonderful family story and according to reviews the restaurant is doing very well. I'm glad Pratik took the advice regarding costings/profit - my slight disappointment is (according to Tripadvisor) the avg.pp is about 75$ (about 60 GBP) > However, if people are willing and can afford to pay, then all the power to them!
I read an article where they're giving back in the community ... *_"Pratik has decided to give a percentage of his restaurant takings to the Feed The Hungry charity in Hinckley"_* ... (Dec. 2019, Leicester Live)

I love Indian food, I dislike Indian food adapted to the western taste. The last Indian restaurant I visited was in a town near Heidelberg, Germany. It looks Indian, it has an Indian menu, has 4 Indian owners, the menu has hundreds of many obsolete items sounding Indian and tasting like schnitzel with knödel and sauerkraut with some very, very, very light, absolutely industrially prepared fake curry. I asked for extra, extra, extra, extra hot and got a green sauce that also vaguely reminded me of a dusty no taste curry by those chemical industrial food 'specialists' Knorr. Luckily I can drive to The Netherlands in less than an hour to the city of Groningen where some Indian restaurants did not adapt to the west and serve Indian food the way it is meant being made. Hot curry please!
