Toradora means "palm tiger" and refers the the female MC Taiga (in japanese it sounds like "tiger") and since she is so small she is a tiger that fits into your palm ^^ Seeing you react to the OP and ED's makes me want to rewatch it ! A really nice romance story in a school setting. It is more serious than Love is War though.
The word is tsundere (the accents are on "tsun", "de" and "re", the "u" pronounced like in "cool" but not long, the "e" pronounced like the first "e" in "ever") it means a character that is mean on the outside to hide that he/she's smitten with the other. The word is a mix between "tsun-tsun", a "thorny" behaviour, and "dere-dere", blushing, being enamored. The anime is about highschoolers like "love is war" but the premise is different. This is really great an anime. "ara ara onee-san", onee, or ane means big sister, "ara ara", is like a "my oh my!" in english. Anyway the blondie with the parrot is not an "ara ara" type. The anime is from 2000s (2008 if I remember right), it has ended after a double season. The first ending lyrics explains the "tsundere" stereotype. The short girl with fluffy hair is portraited by Kugimiya Rie, she's the legendary "Queen of Tsundere", between 2000s and 2010s she took many tsundere roles: "Toradora", "Zero no Tsukaima", "Shakugan no Shana", "Hayate no Gotoku", "Astarotte no omocha", "Hidan no Aria" and more, her performance in Toradora awarded her the "best actress" in the 3rd Seiyuu Awards.
@@mariokempes9517 did u watch the after credit scene, i remember the first time i watched it i said the same thing but was told to watch the end scene and changed my tune ahah
@@PropaPanda6 Spoiler alert I just like Minori more than Taiga, also I think it doesn't make sense that mc would choose her over Minori which feels like made only for the sake of the plot where our main characters ends up together (even tho they shouldn't in my honest opinion)
1:20 The word is "Tsundere". A character who swings from hot to cold emotionally towards one person in particular, acting as if they dislike them, trying to appear tough or mean, and then turns soft or kind for a moment, specially when dealing with a love interest. The number one example sentence of a Tsundere character is "It's not like I like you or anything" or similar. For example, you invite someone out to dinner and she goes: "I'll go with you because I'm hungry and I like that place, and not because I like you or anything."
@@GOTGames the main reason why some people turn it down only do so because they don't like tsundere characters, also taiga is probably the best written tsundere.
ah, yeah, the term "tsundere" is pronounced (best I can describe it in text)... the first part is a hard T sound followed by "soon" and the second part sounds like "day" "ray" but like... soften the Y sound on those syllables. tsun- de- re. the term refers to the type of person who is abrasive on the outside, but it's usually because they're being defensive due to embarrassment, or a fear of vulnerability. and then the idea is that if you put in the work getting to know them, you'll discover their softer side over time, which can become a very meaningful connection _because_ they don't let just anyone into their life. this also ties in really well with the kind of romance where the leads start off hating each other, but eventually fall in love with each other. I haven't watched Toradora, but I am very familiar with this trope... honestly, grumpy characters who are huge softies deep down are my absolute favorites. give me a deadpan, grumpy, tired individual, then tell me they're kind, and you _have me figured out._ give them a kind and energetic character as their constant companion, and I'm even more sold.
wooohoooooo TORADORAAAAA, the first romance anime i ever watched and it got me hooked, convinced me not to ignore this genre and search for more diamonds like this one. Such a sweet story.
Toradora is actually a strange one - relatively old at this point, what shows how high the animation quality actually was when it came out - at the same point it seems to be the entry-anime for many western viewers. Most likely based on the fact it was dubbed in many western languages quite quickly after release. It also does something that is actually quite rare - especially with rom-coms these days - it starts out as a bit of a silly and comical show, but soon drifts into a more mature area that has quite some similarities with western 'tele-novelas' and afternoon TV dramas. The story also goes the full mile, showing the character's full personal and romantical development - what seems getting more and more rare nowadays... Not exactly enough to make it my top-10 anime of all time or something - but as entry into anime surely one of the better choices to acclimatize to anime tropes that would be hard to be understood and picked up in other shows by 'newbies'. PS.: The cat looks angry because it is meant to resemble the main character. The girl's called 'Taiga' - and because how small (and angry) she is, they call her 'Palmtop Tiger' - as a pun of her name. What is one of those type of puns that are easier to pick up when understanding some japanese - but in this case it's quite straight forward and easy to understand.
I'd put it in the same category as Oregairu, where the series starts as a relatively straightforward high school romcom but by the back half it's almost entirely teen drama. Also, weirdly, both series have male leads who are skinny dudes with dark, shaggy hair and distinctive eyes, and female characters with really long hair and strong, self-isolating personalities.
I am insanely excited to see the Monogatari openings reaction. SO many fantastic pieces of music and all perfectly sung by the actual characters of the arcs that the openings are tied to. Cannot wait!
"Tsundere" characters are pretty popular in anime. its like a character who seems angry or kinda mean to you on the outside but are really soft and sweet for there love interest or their loved ones
@Hidetaka Miyazaki What would you say the best is? I would say Tsuki ga Kirei is the most realistic, Escaflowne I would say is the best isekai romance, Re-Life is a pretty strong option and you also cant forget RomeoXJuliet for the genre as well. Spice and wolf is pretty good as well and though most probably wouldn't agree with me due to the transition from season 1 to 2 I personally would rank shakugan no Shana as a pretty good action romance.
Both MC's are in love with each other's best friends. When they both find this out, both decide to support each other so that their love comes true. One can well imagine where that leads to. The journey to get there is truly heartwarming and full of comedy and drama. Absolute love this anime. treat yourself and enjoy the journey!
You've said too much. He's supposed to go into animes completely blind with nothing to go off of but the ops. Even explaining the first minutes of the first episode is taboo
this one has much less comedy, it's much more drama and emotional However, it's one of the most legendary anime of all time, so definitely recommended ♥
"Toradora" is actually kinda similar to "love is war", but i think "toradora" focus more on the drama/ romance element, while "love is war" is more comedy, i mean, "toradora" has its comedy moments but i think its mainly school drama and romance.
I watch Toradora a long time ago when its aired and only read Kaguya till the kiss on roof (not watching the anime). maybe I forget a lot but I dont remember any similarity in both except that both are school life romcom. can anyone explain it more?
@@UDesu16 It’s not so much that they are similar, as much as Toradora started the trend that led to Kaguya being a slapstick parody of the genre as a whole.
This is one of 3 shows I recommend when people want to get into romance anime. The top being Golden Time and the other being Love is War. And if those end up hooking, then we move on to things like ReLife and Horimiya, etc Man I'm getting a lot of nostalgia from this one
Oh, dude. I agree with you. I watched Golden time 5th time 1week ago 😅. My top slice of life anime shows with Toradora. I didnt see Horimiya, but read it. And manga is lil bit..boring
also... KEY LIME PIE RECIPE TIME if you want to use a pre-made crust, definitely do that, but the filling might be a bit much for those wimpy little things. if you want to make the crust from scratch, it's: 1/2 cup toasted almonds (optional, can be substituted with 1/2 cup more graham cracker crumbs, this part probably works best with a food processor) 1 and 1/3 cup graham cracker crumbs (12 full graham crackers) 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 6 tablespoons melted butter (also, if you want to be fancy, substitute some of your graham crackers with ginger snaps. you measure this amount with your heart.) filling ingredients: 6 egg yolks 1 and 1/2 cans sweetened condensed milk (1 can + 2/3 cup from a new can) 1 cup and 2 tablespoons full fat sour cream 1 cup + 2 tablespoons lime juice (fresh takes at least 7-8 limes) 2 & 1/2 tablespoons lime zest (optional) the instructions are pretty simple... just preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, mix everything for the crust, butter or spray the pan before pressing that all in, and bake just the crust for 10 minutes. then you start with the filling by heavily beating the egg yolks... using a stand mixer is way easier than doing it by hand. it's recommended to do that for 5 minutes before beating in the sweetened condensed milk, but really, you just want those two things very evenly combined. then mix in the sour cream, and then the lime zest (if using) and lime juice. as soon as that's all fully combined, pour the filling into the crust (the crust should be cool before doing this) and bake the whole thing, still at 350, for 25 minutes. if it looks too liquidy when it comes out of the oven, it's fine, it's supposed to be that way. it'll set as it cools, and once it's cool enough, it can be refrigerated to set up the rest of the way. after that, you can put whatever you want on it.
Toradora is one those older anime that is a good entry point for newcomers even if it aired like 13(or is it 14) years ago. And it is your school life + romance type of show. I mean the recent Love is War focuses on the comedy element while Toradora focuses on the romance element even though both of them share the school life and first love themes. As for recommendations: -Magi. OPs and EDs. Alongside the prequel of Sinbad. Of course, this one has banger OSTs as well like "Enfin Apparu" and "L'Arabesque Sindria" . -Shakugan no Shana. OPs and EDs. Now this one is older but at least the music is fire. . . Basic dere types: -Tsun-dere. A person that acts angry and violent but is actually good and sweet on the inside. -Yan-dere. A crazy person. Nuff said. -Kuu-dere. Meek and shy person that keeps to themselves and hard to open to others.
*a crazy person (that likes someone) And kuu-dere sometimes doesn't need to be meek or shy. Cuz it's supposed to be kuu (cool) like they're usually composed and don't show their emotions. They do become meek or shy when they go "dere"
I love toradora, the two main characters clearly have their issues and seeing them grow slowly by the influence they have on each other is just so good
This is the series that I personally consider the last anime of the 00s. It aired back in late 2008/early 2009, and ended literally the week before Bakemonogatari and K-on! started (two anime that aired at the same time and were so unbelievably massive that they were a HUGE turning point in how anime was marketed). In retrospect, the whole thing feels like one last hurrah for trends of the 00s. Most notably, short tsundere voiced by Rie Kugimiya. There were a couple after this, but Taiga was the last really huge one. This is such a classic that a certain website has diligently streamed it every year for the past decade.
Yoooo the sudden wave of nostalgia! This is actually the first anime that became my fave and let me fall in love with romcoms! Even though this is not my first romcom, for some reason this anime just hit me differently. So glad you were able to react to this!
Finally! I really love this show. Has a perfect balance between love, romance and drama. And the drama side changed in me when i've rewatched as an adult. As i teen i felt more desperate and sad, but now i felt Just bittersweetness in those drama moments, and yeah, i love how some shows can let you have different perspectives. Also love the osts, especially Lost my pieces and ame iro rondo. I also think that another strong point Is the realism between their relationships, between all the characters. Yeah there Is taiga hitting riuji, that's Just a saturation of her personality. ALSO, EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, as many people haven't paid enough attention and skipped It: in the last episode there Is a scene After the credits. That's the ending, that scene Is very important. Even though there Is still another Little part in the visual and light novel, that really wraps It all up.
This anime was a sensation when it came out, there are still hotblooded arguments about who is the best girl in the show, personally I think Ryuuji is best girl. People were up in arms the moment each episode ended and they had to wait for a week to watch the next episode. I still really like this show, the story is really fun and engaging and the characters are great as well. The voice acting is also fantastic, with some legendary voice actors, like Kugimiya Rie who voices the small character, Taiga, she was typecast early on to play small tsundere characters but she has some really great roles under her belt. Another voice actress in this show is Horie Yui who plays the red-headed girl, she is one of the more prolific anime singers out there and managed to build up an amazing singing career. I could go on and on about the cast, but those are my favourites. Well worth a watch, it has some really funny moments along with some good drama and romance.
Tsundere pronounced "(short t sound)-soon-day-ray" it is a word derived from the term "deredere" meaning lovestruck. There are a number of "dere" "tsundere" and "yandere" being the most popular and well known. One of the most well known tsundere characters in all of anime is in fact the MC Taiga from Toradora. Tsudere basically is a merging of 2 terms, "tsuntsun" irritable and "deredere" lovestruck. A tsundere is someone who pretends to dislike a love interest but will go out of their way to show interest while verbally saying they aren't.
Tsundere means a girl who is mean or harsh to her crush but also gets easily flustered and is mean to hide her true feelings, There are two types, one that express through anger and ones that express through Pride (Kurisu from Steins;Gate is a pride based one.)
The sword is called a bokuto which is a wooden sword used to safely train for some sword martial arts... but is also common as a souvenir in some places... BUT it actually is a common trope for some young delinquents to have it around to use as a weapon... so seeing this character with that look in the opening carrying it means she is a school delinquent or just a "dangerous" girl in general...
Ha, now that takes me back! BTW, Rie Kugimiya, who voiced Taiga, is one of the most easily identifiable voice actors of her generation (388 shows voiced!) And is considered the archetypal voice of the Tsundere.
Toradora is wraped-up anime with 25 episodes that came out in 2008. It's a classic, romance anime with drama focus. I would say it's not the best romance out there, but it's still pretty good.
To put it simply: Toradora is the story of the budding friendship between the four teens you've seen in the openings; no magic or stuff like that, just comedy and slice of life drama (even the katana you see the shorty carrying around is a bokken, a wooden katana, which she uses to hit someone more for comedic effort than anything else) The short girl is Taiga Aisaka, the male female character, and she is, indeed, a tsundere (a character that hides their affection behind rude or aggressive behaviours); the cat in the ending is also a reference to her: her nickname is "palmtop tiger", due to her short stature and even shorter temper, thus having a tigerstriped kitten with a mean look on its face.
Tsundere is the type of personality where you appear quick to explode, angry or cold, but in reality you are sweet and have feelings for someone, which you cannot express easily.
Toradora have only 20+ episodes and it's done. BUT even thought anime is little old, for me this title is one of the best school romances. I rewatch this one on christmas every year and it still have this something!
Funny you mentioned the main character scares you, is actually a thing in the anime, he has a scary face so people keep distance, but he is actually a good guy
This show's a good romantic comedy. One of the first I've seen of the genre. Started anime with the more action/adventure types. Plot is two completely opposite personalities share a similar situation in which each likes the other's friend. They help each other pursue that interest.
This anime is ICONIC! ITS CLASSIC and great storyline! One of the Top RomCom animes that cemented Rie Kugimiya as the Queen of Tsundere The anime is good when people demands a 2nd season even if its story is already wrapped up in 1 season.
The word you were trying to say is "Tsundere" where a character is actually really nice and shy and kind but can't be honest to themselves and acts like he\she is tough and sometimes rude too . Toradora [Without Spoilers] Toradora was my very first romance and comedy show due to which it has a special place in my heart . First of all from it's name Tora means "tiger" and Dora is "dragon" which is a big fact that the the main characters names are Taiga [The little female girl] and Ryuiji [The scary looking guy] . The bigger fact here also is that the dragon, a mythical animal thought to reign over the heavens, stands for yang. The tiger, respected in ancient China as mightiest of the wild beasts, stands for yin . Hence the name Toradora 😁😁 The shows main plot goes as Ryuji has a crush on the pink haired girl who is Taiga's friend . Meanwhile Taiga has a crush on the glasses wearing boy who is Ryuji's friend . But both of them are really bad and really shy at telling their feeling to their crushes and after meeting with each other , they decide to help each other with their crushes . It's a comedic show but the story is pretty good and yes , the anime has already ended
Tsundere - they act cold, but are lovey dovey inside. Closest term is bipola; but it's more of a someone that is not honest with their feelings, acting opposite. Have you ever heard the legend of the palm-top tiger? :) You might wanna watch this show 100%
Main character Aisaka Taiga... Taiga is how you read the word TIGER (english) if you are japanese... so the little tiger in the ending is a representation of the girl... and her relationship with the other characters...
The really freaking good stuff Good old palmtop tiger (Well basically the girl and the guy end up in a "you help me I help you" since she likes his friend and he likes her friend) A classic together with golden time as well, another great one Both of them, from comedy and drama they can do it all
fun fact: the little tiger is a hint as the name of the show. Tora means Tiger. Dora is the short of doragon (yeah, dragon but spoken with japanese accent). So ToraDora is Tiger and Dragon. The name is because of the girl and the boy. Also, one of the BEST solid love stories of anime of all times.
Toradora! is a comedy/drama slice of life featuring the two protagonists Ryuuji (people are scared of him because he looks like a gangster) and Taiga (the scary girl with the wooden katana who deserves her reputation) being in love with the other's best friends and the shenanigans and heartbreak that evolve from that premise. Taiga is often referred to as Palmtop (palm of your hand) tiger because of her personality and stature, hence the mean little tiger in the ending. This anime is feel good and heartbreaking all in one, it's got all the gooey, awful, and sticky feelings of high school and is one of the BEST dramas I've ever seen, across genres, period. I haven't seen the dub of it so I can't speak to its quality but the sub is fantastic and the actors are INCREDIBLE at putting across strong emotion.
1:23 the word you're looking for is Tsundere, sometimes translated as hot-and-cold. most often used to describe a character who switches between being harsh and lovey-dovey on a dime
I would describe Toradora best as a comedic dramedy. Its quite a bit more serious than Love Is War tends to be, but it still has alot of comedic moments. Its an Anime from the early 2000s (2008, to be exact). Its one of the Anime that really codified alot of the tropes we see in modern Tsundere-Characters. Its one of those cornerstone-anime of the Community that had a big impact on alot of other shows that came afterwards.
Toradora is one of my favorites. And you're absolutely right. The openings and closings are sung by the main female cast, which is something that is really rare in western shows. The word you were thinking of is tsundere. It's sort of like a personality type.
Here is a bit of history of the tsundere. There is a small misconception about the meaning of tsundere since over time the meaning has been slightly diluted... Some people think a tsundere is just an angry girl who likes you but... A tsundere is a girl (or boy too) that over time goes from being Tsuntsun to being Deredere... A tsuntsun (offputting) girl is a girl who "dislikes" you in general and is often aggressive either verbally or physically... the behavior in general is aggressive towards some person... but eventually over time that girl gets to meet the person and starts to develop feelings or a connection and then over time turns into a Deredere (soft/sweet) girl most often losing most of the aggressive traits... This is not necessarily a romantic connection but 99% of the time it is... Nowadays a lot of people consider any random violent and aggressive girl that actually likes the character a tsundere but the term itself is supposed to depict the transition from going from Tsun to Dere... While if the girl already likes the character from episode one but is slightly violent then it is not an actual tsundere, more like the fast food version of one... And that goes also for the writers of the stories... often they just use the aggressive girl as a trope without any development at all...
toradora: wonderful schoollife + romance + comedy, no fantasy or fighting. a bit similar to love is war but with some twists that make it comletely different. definitely worth watching. tsundere=cold and hostile but may get cute when it comes to love yandere= honest in love but with tendecies to selfdistructive overprotectivness kuudere=showing no emotions exept to the loved ones dandere=quiet and antisocial but opens up after meeting their special one
Honestly Toradora is one of the OG romance/slice of slice shows that current generation of 23-28 most likely grew on, honestly it's just amazing and for me together with Clannad was the best romance duo :D
When I think Tsundere, Aisaka Taiga is who my mind goes to first. Absolutely wonderful anime. tsundere is when they come off very cold or even angry (tsun) at first, but as you get to know them they open up and show a kind and loving side (dere). This show is really good, it's a romance drama from 2008. It takes a more dramatic approach than love is war, but there's quite a bit of comedy too. It opens with these beautiful lines being said by the two main characters that still stick with me over a decade later.
The word you were looking for is "Tsundere", it's a female archetype/anime trope who acts cold or even violent towards the male MC, while deep down actually being in love with him. This is usually because she's really shy or gets embarrassed easily, and cannot acknowledge her feelings for him. The female MC in Toradora is like a textbook definition of this trope. 😂 Quick synopsis of the show avoiding spoilers: The male MC is the nicest guy who likes cleaning and cooking, but has the face of a gangster delinquent and everyone is always afraid of him because he looks like he's a sneeze away from pummeling them half to death. The female MC is the exact opposite, she looks like a super cute little doll, but in actuality is a violent slob. The two of them meet, and hijinks ensue. This is very much a slice of life romcom show.
Tsundere is pronounced "SOON-dare-A" (A like the letter, and soon is the stressed vowel). It basically means someone that is angry/mean to the people they like (friends or otherwise) because they are insecure and don't want others to think they like other people because it could be perceived as "weakness". Generally, tsunderes are kind on the inside but don't feel like they can be vulnerable with others, so they don't show it. Edit: And You are completely right about food in anime. The food there looks better than most of the food I've ever eaten lol
Thank God it didn't get a season 2, perfect ending. This show is basically a story about the male and female characters figuring out their feelings and what it takes for them to realize those feelings. Yes it is old school. It is a classic and it paved the road along with Clannad for romance anime.
A tsundere is a character archetype that is reluctant to admit they like someone, and masks this by acting irritated or embarrassed when circumstances suggest that they do.
That is call Tsundere you are curious of. Dere mean lover, and there are many types of dere in anime, and Stundere is the most loved: Stundere: a person who like you, always sweet to you, care about you, but won't ever admit she like you, she give you all the signs, and she wait for you to do the 1st move. Deredere: very sweet and energetic girl who like, she will immediately tell you her feelings and and will try to be the best girlfriend for you. Yandere: a person who is really into you, she will confess to you first, and then will go all out willingly to do everything including crazy things for you, she don't mind if it's a bad thing just to keep you all for herself, and can't stand someone take you away from her or leave her, very possessive, she will not friendly towards anyone who is threatening her relationship even towards the person she love. (it is the kind of dere you should avoid). Kuudere: a emotionless girl who falling love with you, a girl who will never show her emotions towards anyone. Dandere: someone who lack of social interaction, shy, quite, and only speak when she is alone with the person she like. Bakadere: a girl who will do all the stupid stuff, even embarrassed herself to get you to like her back but not crazy like Yandere. Bodere: very violent, and masculine girlfriend who like to beat you as a way to show affection. Undere: combine of Deredere and Yandere. The difference between Undere and Yandere is that, Undere is more sweet and friendly than yandere. Darudere: a dull and lazy person unless the person she love speak. Hitodere: a toxic lover, she will shame you and lower your value just to manipulate you. Himedere: a lover who act like she is a princess, and wanted to be treated as one. Example from anime openings you reacted to: Tsundere: Kaguya from Kaguya love is war. Yandere: Yuno from Mirai Niki "future diary". Undere: Misa from Death Note. Dandere: Komi from Komi can't communicate, and Shouko from a silent voice. ...other dere I don't have examples from anime openings you reacted to.
The word "toradora" is made up of "tora" wich means "tiger" and "dora" which is a shortened "doragon" (dragon). The two main characters, the short girl Taiga (her name sounds like the word "tiger") and the tall guy Ryuji ("ryu" meaning "dragon") are each in love with the other's best friend (the guy with the glasses, Yusaku, and the girl with the red hair, Minori) so they decide to help each other. Hence the association of "tiger" and "dragon" for the title. All in all a pretty good romance anime with some comedy and drama. And yes, the female cast sings the songs. Also, the woman with the parrot is actually Ryuji's mom.
As a matter of fact, it IS normal to carry swords in Japan. Kendo is still regularly practiced, even in High School, so bringing your practice sword to and from school is normal. By law you normally need to carry it in a bag, but still. Tsun-de-Re, yeah it's a person who acts tough but is actually a big softy. Wooo! I'm not alone in being suspicious of red and white umbrellas! 🤣
talking about tsundere's, the tsundere queen of VA's herself - Rei Kugimiya, voices the female lead on Toradora, lots of fun, and funny shows that she has been a part of on a side note, there is an insert song in Toradora that, if im not mistaken, two of the female VA's sing
1:58 This os because this was one of the earliest comedy, romance anime there was (for the early romance anime that wanted to use a different type of art stile that is) during the time it came out.
I can probably count on my hands how many anime series I have watched, as I'm a new fan like yourself only getting into it at some stage throughout covid lockdowns. Toradora is one of the first I watched and I actually really enjoyed it.
It's astonishing to me that people still remember this almost 20-year-old high-school romance anime.... I mean it is a classic and it set a high bar for the future romance anime, but still kinda astonished.
Also the term you're looking for is Tsundere (tsoon - deh - reh). Besides pronunciation, you're on point with that. The female lead is the literally the picture you get when you look up "tsundere" LOL
Toradora is a slice of life, romcom anime where the 2 protagonist have crushes on the other one's best friend. With LEGENDARY Tsundere voice actor Rie Kugimiya, who has hundreds of va roles. Most of the Tsundere Japanese voices from 2000 to today are all her. A Tsun(dere) is a character who acts rude, cold, and hostile towards their love interest in order to conceal their warm and caring feelings. The main female character of this anime is one of the first/top examples when searches for Tsundere. There are 5 main 'dere' types. (Yan, Kuu, Dan, Dere, Tsun)
Always gonna be my favorite anime, this came out when I was in grade 5, and I watched it at television during 6:30 in the evening and if I ever missed one episode I'm gonna wait till it's Saturday cause they had a replay of Anime's from Monday to Saturday.
Toradora is a romcom like Kaguya-sama, featuring one of the best "love polygons" there is. Its famous for the character relationships, all of which are unrequited for most of the story. Its two seasons and the story reaches an end in the anime. This is an abslute rarity in anime, so it's made toradora kind of a gem in the world of romcoms. Highly recommended.

AAAnd you forgotten ED2 of Toradora :D KEK
Toradora means "palm tiger" and refers the the female MC Taiga (in japanese it sounds like "tiger") and since she is so small she is a tiger that fits into your palm ^^
Seeing you react to the OP and ED's makes me want to rewatch it ! A really nice romance story in a school setting. It is more serious than Love is War though.
Toradora is an absolute classic romcom. It was my favorite until Kaguya-sama released
Simplest way to describe this anime is: two complete opposites making each other better.
"Why do I feel like I'm being judged?"
"What's that word? Tsundere..."
Damn, this OP conveys her character real quick
😂
Ah yes Toradora, even as a battle shonen junkie this Slice of Life Romance Drama is always in my heart
fr one of my favorite romance
Ngl it's one of the shittiest anime I've ever watched
Real
This is the only SoL anime I recommend to people that dislike SoL
I remember THAT fuckin' EPISODE where a THING was BROKEN holy shit
One of the best romance anime ever. Comedy, drama, characters.. It's just perfect. And kinda classic for like 10 years already.
Wasn't perfect but really solid romance
I'm also not big fan of how anime ends
One of the worst and FMC is actually a horrible person.
IRL she would have been bitchslapped for her behavior and deeds so many times.
@@mariokempes9517 did u watch the after credit scene, i remember the first time i watched it i said the same thing but was told to watch the end scene and changed my tune ahah
@@PropaPanda6 Spoiler alert
I just like Minori more than Taiga, also I think it doesn't make sense that mc would choose her over Minori which feels like made only for the sake of the plot where our main characters ends up together (even tho they shouldn't in my honest opinion)
Soon-there-A (like the letter), for a pronunciation guide.
@@schoolwork4056 A more accurate pronunciation guide would be "Soon-dare-ay"
@@schoolwork4056 no, just no, you have to pronounce the 't' so it should be tsu-n-deh-reh.
@@Ghorda9 Exactly this way
Toradora came out when i was in high school and its still a classic even if it still feels new to me 😅 one of the best romance animes
Everyone who sees it says such good things about it 👀
@@GOTGames the main reason why some people turn it down only do so because they don't like tsundere characters, also taiga is probably the best written tsundere.
@@Ghorda9 don't forget ppl who can't differentiate anime "violence" from real life violence.
ah, yeah, the term "tsundere" is pronounced (best I can describe it in text)... the first part is a hard T sound followed by "soon" and the second part sounds like "day" "ray" but like... soften the Y sound on those syllables. tsun- de- re.
the term refers to the type of person who is abrasive on the outside, but it's usually because they're being defensive due to embarrassment, or a fear of vulnerability. and then the idea is that if you put in the work getting to know them, you'll discover their softer side over time, which can become a very meaningful connection _because_ they don't let just anyone into their life. this also ties in really well with the kind of romance where the leads start off hating each other, but eventually fall in love with each other.
What is one of those type of puns that are easier to pick up when understanding some japanese - but in this case it's quite straight forward and easy to understand.
j.c.staff is known for cuting corners on animation so it wasn't looking new even when it came out . but it has unicue character design
Toradora is one of the best romance and drama anime I've ever watched. I recommend it to everyone who hasn't watched it yet.
I am insanely excited to see the Monogatari openings reaction. SO many fantastic pieces of music and all perfectly sung by the actual characters of the arcs that the openings are tied to. Cannot wait!
Same
"Tsundere" characters are pretty popular in anime. its like a character who seems angry or kinda mean to you on the outside but are really soft and sweet for there love interest or their loved ones
Toradora ended in 2009 with 25 total episodes. I haven’t watched that many romance anime but I think this along with Horimiya are my favorites.

Oh it's not that big? 🤔👀
Both MC's are in love with each other's best friends. When they both find this out, both decide to support each other so that their love comes true. One can well imagine where that leads to. Toradora has been my favorite anime ever since I stumbled upon it, it's been over 10 years and I can't imagine that changing.
this one has much less comedy, it's much more drama and emotional
However, it's one of the most legendary anime of all time, so definitely recommended ♥
isn't the entire first half comedy?
@@Ghorda9definitely more comedy than the second half
"Toradora" is actually kinda similar to "love is war", but i think "toradora" focus more on the drama/ romance element, while "love is war" is more comedy, i mean, "toradora" has its comedy moments but i think its mainly school drama and romance.
They're both comedies, but Kaguya-sama is straight slapstick comedy and less romcom.
I think it's more accurate to say that Love is War is an outright parody of Toradora-style shows.
Oh it's absoluty a parody of romcoms lol, but because it is a parody it leans fully into the slapstic side of it.
The Toradora Lost my Pieces OST is definitely something you should react to. Such a good OST, I beg you to have a listen in the future!
I still love toradora after all these years❤ height of Rie Kugimiya career.
This is one of 3 shows I recommend when people want to get into romance anime. The top being Golden Time and the other being Love is War.
And if those end up hooking, then we move on to things like ReLife and Horimiya, etc
Man I'm getting a lot of nostalgia from this one
I think Kimi ni Todoke should be also in the list ;)
Oh, dude. I agree with you. I watched Golden time 5th time 1week ago 😅. My top slice of life anime shows with Toradora. I didnt see Horimiya, but read it. And manga is lil bit..boring
@imcap well the anime for horimiya is almost 1 for 1 to the manga so if you didn't enjoy the manga then understandable
also... KEY LIME PIE RECIPE TIME
if you want to use a pre-made crust, definitely do that, but the filling might be a bit much for those wimpy little things. if you want to make the crust from scratch, it's:
1/2 cup toasted almonds (optional, can be substituted with 1/2 cup more graham cracker crumbs, this part probably works best with a food processor)
1 and 1/3 cup graham cracker crumbs (12 full graham crackers)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons melted butter
(also, if you want to be fancy, substitute some of your graham crackers with ginger snaps. you measure this amount with your heart.)
filling ingredients:
6 egg yolks
1 and 1/2 cans sweetened condensed milk (1 can + 2/3 cup from a new can)
1 cup and 2 tablespoons full fat sour cream
1 cup + 2 tablespoons lime juice (fresh takes at least 7-8 limes)
2 & 1/2 tablespoons lime zest (optional)
the instructions are pretty simple... just preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, mix everything for the crust, butter or spray the pan before pressing that all in, and bake just the crust for 10 minutes.
then you start with the filling by heavily beating the egg yolks... using a stand mixer is way easier than doing it by hand. it's recommended to do that for 5 minutes before beating in the sweetened condensed milk, but really, you just want those two things very evenly combined. then mix in the sour cream, and then the lime zest (if using) and lime juice. as soon as that's all fully combined, pour the filling into the crust (the crust should be cool before doing this) and bake the whole thing, still at 350, for 25 minutes. if it looks too liquidy when it comes out of the oven, it's fine, it's supposed to be that way. it'll set as it cools, and once it's cool enough, it can be refrigerated to set up the rest of the way. after that, you can put whatever you want on it.
YES! I BROUGHT THIS ANIME TO LIGHT IN THE VOTES! So glad its finally being acknowledged!
As for recommendations:
-Magi. OPs and EDs. Alongside the prequel of Sinbad. Of course, this one has banger OSTs as well like "Enfin Apparu" and "L'Arabesque Sindria" .
-Shakugan no Shana. OPs and EDs. Now this one is older but at least the music is fire.
. .
Basic dere types:
-Tsun-dere. A person that acts angry and violent but is actually good and sweet on the inside.
-Yan-dere. A crazy person. Nuff said.
-Kuu-dere. Meek and shy person that keeps to themselves and hard to open to others.
*a crazy person (that likes someone)
And kuu-dere sometimes doesn't need to be meek or shy. Cuz it's supposed to be kuu (cool) like they're usually composed and don't show their emotions. They do become meek or shy when they go "dere"
Advanced dere type: Maya-dere, a person who was the enemy/villain but has become a love interest(often with villainous tendencies)
So glad you were able to react to this!
the Silky Heart and "Orange" are BANGERS!! I wish orange was on spotify...
Yup, a tsundere. A character who masks their affection for another character by being mean or abrasive to them but on the inside they are sweet.
I remember using Taiga in Crossing Void...She's literally deal a huge damage to the opponents...what a berserk hot blooded girl.
Tsundere means a girl who is mean or harsh to her crush but also gets easily flustered and is mean to hide her true feelings, There are two types, one that express through anger and ones that express through Pride (Kurisu from Steins;Gate is a pride based one.)
He will basically start this series exactly 1 year after he reacted to the openings
Taiga isn't a tsundere she is THE tsundere
Ha, now that takes me back! BTW, Rie Kugimiya, who voiced Taiga, is one of the most easily identifiable voice actors of her generation (388 shows voiced!) And is considered the archetypal voice of the Tsundere.
Toradora is wraped-up anime with 25 episodes that came out in 2008. It's a classic, romance anime with drama focus. I would say it's not the best romance out there, but it's still pretty good.
To put it simply: Toradora is the story of the budding friendship between the four teens you've seen in the openings; no magic or stuff like that, just comedy and slice of life drama (even the katana you see the shorty carrying around is a bokken, a wooden katana, which she uses to hit someone more for comedic effort than anything else)
The short girl is Taiga Aisaka, the male female character, and she is, indeed, a tsundere (a character that hides their affection behind rude or aggressive behaviours); the cat in the ending is also a reference to her: her nickname is "palmtop tiger", due to her short stature and even shorter temper, thus having a tigerstriped kitten with a mean look on its face.
One of the Top RomCom animes that cemented Rie Kugimiya as the Queen of Tsundere
The anime is good when people demands a 2nd season even if its story is already wrapped up in 1 season.
No way my fav anime ty for the reaction 🙏🙏
Also toradora is finished it aired in 2008. It's an amazing anime to watch at christmas
The word you were trying to say is "Tsundere" where a character is actually really nice and shy and kind but can't be honest to themselves and acts like he\she is tough and sometimes rude too .
Toradora [Without Spoilers]
Toradora was my very first romance and comedy show due to which it has a special place in my heart . Hence the name Toradora 😁😁
The shows main plot goes as Ryuji has a crush on the pink haired girl who is Taiga's friend .
Toradora is one of the best rommance anime of all time! Love it ^^
The really freaking good stuff
Good old palmtop tiger
(Well basically the girl and the guy end up in a "you help me I help you" since she likes his friend and he likes her friend)
A classic together with golden time as well, another great one
Both of them, from comedy and drama they can do it all
fun fact: the little tiger is a hint as the name of the show.
This anime in English dub is so damn good. It’s second to love is war as my favourite romance comedy ever! Episode 1 will hook you in!
1:23 the word you're looking for is Tsundere, sometimes translated as hot-and-cold. most often used to describe a character who switches between being harsh and lovey-dovey on a dime
"Why do I feel like I'm being judged?"
Don't worry, she does that with everyone
Time passes and Toradora still one of the bests animes of school life and romance... The final is god, nothing to comply...
toradora: wonderful schoollife + romance + comedy, no fantasy or fighting. a bit similar to love is war but with some twists that make it comletely different. definitely worth watching.
tsundere=cold and hostile but may get cute when it comes to love
yandere= honest in love but with tendecies to selfdistructive overprotectivness
kuudere=showing no emotions exept to the loved ones
dandere=quiet and antisocial but opens up after meeting their special one
From what you have seen
Tsundere= Maki (or sometimes Kaguya) in Love is War
Yandere= Kaguya sometimes
Kuudere= Mikasa from Attack of Titan
No fighting? Taiga vs Sumire, top notch girl fight.
Honestly Toradora is one of the OG romance/slice of slice shows that current generation of 23-28 most likely grew on, honestly it's just amazing and for me together with Clannad was the best romance duo :D
It's One Of The Best Romance Anime Or There ❤❤ Really Love It
When I think Tsundere, Aisaka Taiga is who my mind goes to first.
Quick synopsis of the show avoiding spoilers: The male MC is the nicest guy who likes cleaning and cooking, but has the face of a gangster delinquent and everyone is always afraid of him because he looks like he's a sneeze away from pummeling them half to death. The female MC is the exact opposite, she looks like a super cute little doll, but in actuality is a violent slob. The two of them meet, and hijinks ensue. This is very much a slice of life romcom show.
This one is one of my all-time faves. Always love every moment any time i go back to rewatch it.
Ah yessss, Toradora is my favorite romcom anime of all time. Trust me, it leaves a scar in your heart.
This is one of the first romcoms I've watched
Tsundere is pronounced "SOON-dare-A" (A like the letter, and soon is the stressed vowel). It basically means someone that is angry/mean to the people they like (friends or otherwise) because they are insecure and don't want others to think they like other people because it could be perceived as "weakness". Generally, tsunderes are kind on the inside but don't feel like they can be vulnerable with others, so they don't show it.
Edit: And You are completely right about food in anime. The food there looks better than most of the food I've ever eaten lol
Toradora is one of the best romcom anime of all time imo. There is a three part episode in the middle that drags it down a bit but still incredible.
Its so nice seeing you see such different types of anime. Rom Coms are a Gem in anime, this one in particular
Toradora is one of the most popular anime before even people who doesnt watch anime has watch toradora at some point.
it's a romcom that turns into a romance drama towards the end, it's also probably the best in the genre as well.
I'm 1:23 minutes in and I'm already enjoying your reaction video. You are great as always
This anime is so good! Hope we get to see you watch it one day, so good at being equally funny and heart wrenching at the same time
Thank God it didn't get a season 2, perfect ending.
Dere mean lover, and there are many types of dere in anime, and Stundere is the most loved:
Stundere: a person who like you, always sweet to you, care about you, but won't ever admit she like you, she give you all the signs, and she wait for you to do the 1st move.
Example from anime openings you reacted to:
Tsundere: Kaguya from Kaguya love is war.
Really sweet story. I started to watch it with my wife. Ended up with her absolutely loving this story. Brilliantly written.
talking about tsundere's, the tsundere queen of VA's herself - Rei Kugimiya, voices the female lead on Toradora, lots of fun, and funny shows that she has been a part of
on a side note, there is an insert song in Toradora that, if im not mistaken, two of the female VA's sing
The singers of opening 1 and ending 2 are that 3 main girls
And the singer of ending 1 and opening 2 is red hair girl

This os because this was one of the earliest comedy, romance anime there was (for the early romance anime that wanted to use a different type of art stile that is) during the time it came out.
There's a reason Toradora earned the nickname "Tor-adora-ble". This show basically set the bar for the romance drama genre.
Toradora is old (circa late 2000's) and completed. IMO, it's exactly as long as it needs to be.
For years Tora Dora was my favourite romantic anime (now it's Kaguya), I'm glad to watch reaction on it!
these ops and eds are so nostalgic god i miss 2000-2010s anime vibes
I can probably count on my hands how many anime series I have watched, as I'm a new fan like yourself only getting into it at some stage throughout covid lockdowns. Toradora is one of the first I watched and I actually really enjoyed it.
wraped up animes that I know you have finished: Hellsing, deathnote, I don't know if there are more, Toradora was super popular back in the day, 2008
It's astonishing to me that people still remember this almost 20-year-old high-school romance anime....
My personal fav anime, one of the most popular romance anime, glad u enjoyed the music!
I really love the opening & endings reactions of animes. Hope to see them more frequent! Could we get a Top 50/100 animes from like 10 years ago?
As I recall, the VA for Taiga ended up type-casted for years as chibi-tsundere characters.
it's been my favorite romance-drama anime for over 10 years
Toradora still one of the best JC staff shows to date and it's over 15 years old now. I also just looks so modern for when it came out.
Toradora , one of the best school romance anime in my opinion.
Not even that long a show but from what I remember it was very heartfelt and worth a watch.
