By the way, the reason you kept seeing ending credits during the opening is because a lot of the time the first time they show us the op is at the end of episode 1/the pilot. A lot of anime do it now, as I'm sure you'll notice for yourself. These videos that are uploading the op usually take it from that first episode, for WHATEVER reason.
probably because it was uploaded on the anime release as well, therefore their only source would be the first episode, and they cant be bothered to reupload since its already gathered views and stuff.

@@GOTGames I recommend you to not watch these 60 fps chennels, and instead watch some officially licensed channels. The opening 3 uploaded by the channel "Anicard" just has cut the opening scenes together randomly, mostly played in reverse. All that just to avoid copyright, and thats why i hate these channels. They also ruin the video quality with "60 fps" and "4k" "enhancements", and i dont need to go into detail why these "enhancements" to the video will never be good, (specifically the 60 fps one) there is already like a 20 minute video explaining that.
The Rising of the Shield Hero is one of the best Isekai (Japanese fantasy where the protagonist finds himself in another world). It is one of the few anime where the first episode leaves viewers speechless. Like attack on titan, goblin slayer, Re:Zero or The Promised Neverland. UA-cam video (Highest Rated First Anime Episode) to realize how much the first episode marked people.
Without spoiling it, the anime is a 9/10 and was like contender for anime of the year when it appeared, first season is even better than slime.
The reason you asked why season 2 opening is weird, is because the budget dropped a lot for season 2 and the score dropped to like 6/10 (sketchy animation and they rushed everything).
Also the reason you only now hear about it, is because people voted with season 2 in mind, those who voted, did it for the music and not for the anime itself (So it took a while to win twitch vote).
EDIT: it's an isekai like slime, just more dark, almost zero happy events happen in the show.

This is one of my very top favorite anime ever and I 100000% recommend it. It IS emotionally heavy and well wrtten. Personally, I had a few characters that made me want to punch them in the face despite not being official villains. But it also has a lot of heartwarming sweet moments and i grew so attached to the characters, it makes you wish you could be there with them and stand up for/protect the main characters. (and there's obviously action stuff too)
This anime has one of the best OST as well.
R.O.T.S.H is an emotional roller coaster. You know how things start off good then go bad. This started off emotionally like a long walk off a short pier. Your emotions are going to be TESTED. And you'll be slowly surfacing. REALLY slowly.
I havent seen this show yet, but the composer of the series' music is Kevin Penkin who created some absolute masterpieces in Made in Abyss and Tower of God so i expect it to be so emotional!!
having watched Rising of the Shield Hero, I will say, it's a pretty good casual watch, but some of the details start to fall apart under scrutiny... I had fun with it, but if I had a mind to, I could probably pick at it until it sounds like I hated it. there's just some really messy character work in this anime, which is fine if you don't mind that sort of thing too much. I do love the OPs and EDs though!
this does have me kind of thinking about Golden Kamuy once again, because like... that show is so goofy... unbelievable amounts of jackass shit happen in that show. and yet, the main storyline has so many dramatic plot elements that work so incredibly well... I think it's literally because of the goofy stuff. like, a LOT of the cast is former soldiers, and during the war, their personalities were set aside and neglected in favor of somber stoicism... they could die at any time, so there was no point in being a unique person or getting to know anyone. but post war... they can be people again. and you see so many strange, silly, awkward, unique parts of them start to come to the surface. and it makes you more and more aware that this is what could've been lost if they'd ended up as canon fodder. it's such a strange mixture of laugh-out-loud hilarious, and completely heart wrenching at times.
This is exactly how I feel as well. I had fun with the first season, but I definitely have some issues the show.

mostly I had trouble with the lack of characterization for the other heroes besides Naofumi... or rather, when they got characterization, they were just buffoons? like, they never got smarter, or learned anything, and it bugged me.
it also bugged me that Raphtalia only ever seems bothered by slavery when it's convenient. like, when the plot wants to have a "Raphtalia is against slavery" moment, it gets it, but when Naofumi goes back to the same slave trader where Raphtalia would've probably died if Naofumi hadn't acquired her, in order to obtain Filo... she doesn't even act traumatized?
like, idk, I'm not against controversial shit in my media... my favorite anime is Golden Kamuy, and that has a guy who makes clothes out of corpse skins as a hobby. I really can't judge. but at the same time, I'd like the piece of media I'm consuming to at least treat the characters with internal consistency. when it doesn't, that's when I start asking myself why the writer even wanted this detail in their story in the first place. like... they're not even _doing_ anything with it!
The songs are top of the top level, MADKID is awesome, but let me also say that this is a big contender for a reaction series for the future.
Shield Hero season 1 especially, was HUGE! I can't say much about it without spoiling stuff I shouldn't. This is a series you gotta go in full blind for the best experience. All I can say is I used to read the manga (though the original work is a book) and I was ecstatic when they announced the anime! And season 1 was an even more epic experience than reading the manga even though I already knew what was gonna happen, which is rare for me! That's how good the anime was. I cannot praise it enough.
I completely agree, Shield Hero season 1 has gotta be the only anime season I can say has made the story and combats even better than the manga
I'm an anime fan who likes manga and light novels. I like the story in any version, even though in the manga and novel the plot is a little different from the anime because of the duration, I quite enjoy it all.
I must say it's always so fun to watch your reactions. Such honest, high energy inputs on everything. All very spontaneous

Opening 2 last few seconds pretty much tells the whole story accumulating in a few seconds. The part where the three women are helping him. Is so touching cause all the crap he goes through gets uplifted. Is a metaphor.

Please react to "Utawarerumono" openings and endings! It's a fantasy series with eastern and in particular Japanese aesthetic, in opposite of how many fantasy series have Medieval Europe-like settings. And, of course, it has really, really good music in it.

Shield hero is up there with my favorite anime’s of all time definitely worth adding to the tournament for next anime to watch.

This anime slaps if you like slime you’ll probably like this one. It’s a little darker than slime at times, but it has that like main character on the grind in a new world vibe that slime has.
Shield Hero is a really good anime. Some people trash season 2, but I enjoyed it. The fights are epic and makes you want to build a class that is about defense like the main character has, because he is extremely epic.
I know people didn't like the 2nd season as much- but honestly I love Rising of the Shield Hero!!!! Such a good show and the songs are incredible

Actually I commented on an older video because you asked for "dark anime" and I listed Rising of the Shield Hero.
I highly recommend the show if you're into fantasy Isekai anime that has 'some' elements of dark and mature themes and by mature I don't mean the r18 stuff, its wholesome for the most part but the MC gets the short straw by being the Shield Hero.
Rise was truly a masterclass song upon its release, MADKID absolutely smashed it

Shield Hero is a MASSIVE HIT. They are already talking seasons 3 and 4. Plus is you want more,.. Check out Arifureta: from common place to worlds strongest.
First season is great and adapts the light novels really well. The second season drops the ball and doesn't adapt the light novels well at all.
The show is definitely a roller coaster. Worth a watch overall.

Its a big anime It is action packed anime which anyone would love . S1 is a masterpiece however it lost its popularity due to S2.

I love the shield hero eds for season 1. The series is made by Kinema Citrus, the same studio behind made in abyss. While the show is really good imo, it does cut a lot from the spurce material and season 2 suffered quite a lot from that. It also felt like the studio kinda left season 2 out to dry while they made Made in Abyss season 2 which was phenomenol storywise and visually.
The openings are all made by Madkidz. They actually did the official english version of the songs too.
You are seeing credits for opening because Crunchyroll puts the first version up. In newer shows, the openings play at the end for the first episode.
Generally you see the credits rolling up because the first time the opening shows up is in the ending of the first episode. The entire episode has no opening at all.
I love the first season. Here's hoping the next season can be good....please.
S1 is pretty great. Got one of the strongest starting halves to a season id say. Season 1 overall is very good anime. Very dark and heavy indeed.
S2 is very comparatively weaker though. Probs why this shows not talked about as much anymore.

I love Rising of the Shield Hero and I do recommend you watch, however it is an adaptation of a light novel series and does miss some things. I recommend once you have finished watching the anime, you pick up the books and read them.
I am currently watching Rising of the Shield Hero. The villains in season 1 make me so angry. It was nice to see them lose. Season 2 is interesting and the score is really good. The legendary beasts remind me of an older isekai series.

Shield hero season 1 is great, season 2 was... well even my friend who didn't read the books said it felt very rushed lol, not to mention completely derailing the source plot for fan service.
that said I still think it's worth checking out, hopefully they rethink how they'll go about season 3
it switches between dark and wholesome quite a bit

I would definitely reccomend this, especially season 1, season 1 was really great, 42 minute episode 1, characters, development, world building, the mc, the side characters everything was great, season 2 was ok but it wasn't as good as season 1, rushed, etc.
My second favorite isekai after Log Horizon.
It is obviously written by a woman, as Raphtalia is the author self insert character, and all the fights happen off screen while the main conflict is her saving the main character from depressive spirals into darkness. He entirely declares his love for her, and the "harem" isn't, they're adoptive daughters, so Raphtalia doesn't have to get pregnant and be out of action.
One of my favorite isekai anime. Raphtalia rules ;)
It is about a guy who was summoned as a hero into an other world together with 3 other persons. Sadly his weapon is the shield and almost every human in this world hates the shield. Since they can not send him back he has to start living in that world. He starts to earn money in MMOPRG style. Kill monster and sell the loot. Soon he becomes the most powerful hero. Well maybe I gave to much spoilers already, so I will stop now. Sorry ;)

Shield hero was super popular when season 1 came out. To my knowledge, it was up there with konosuba for best current isekai when it came out. But season 2 rushed stuff and I heard a lot of people found season 2 kind of boring so that's why it became much less popular and why you probably hadn't heard of it before

main reason peopel didnt like season 2 was because they already got back at bitch and naofumi was more powerful so he wasnt get pushed around as much but i heard the story gets alot better later on in the LN
Season 2 strayed way to far from what I thought the show was.
Pretty spot on there, season 2 wasn't terrible per say but the decreased budget, the rush to release as well as them trying to cram the entire turtle spirit and the new world arcs into a half season (13 episodes) just spelled disaster. I prey they learned from their mistakes and will do better moving forward for season 3, but my confidence is somewhat low.
Season 1 was sooo good, but after the sweet sweet revenge was dealt. It wasn't as interesting

Naofumi doesn't deserve all the shit he's been through. i just want him to settle down with his daughters in some small, quiet town and rest.
Shield Hero should have ended on season 1. I''ve read the LN up to volume 19 and tbh it's really bad. Yusagi (the author) is really just milking the franchise as much as she can.

The first part of the first season is super gratifying to watch and worth reacting to.
I love the way Naofumi's feelings are transcribed in the way he tastes food,. The whole kid's meal scenes and growing up from that food. At the end of episode 4 he can taste food because he opened up to Raphtalia and the world he is living in thanks to her. Great chara development, loved it. When it was meant to be the start it was the only chara development they ever underwent :). I hate the rest of Shield Hero to the bone.
I don't think luke could react to 4 episodes and ever agree to stop after such a high point.

What I like about Shield Hero is that it tells a unique story that feels very real and maps on to the experience of a lot of young men. At it's core it's an anime about abuse and mental trauma, how that affects someone, what they can become, and how they can change. The main character Naofumi has become a jaded, somewhat shitty person due to the awful circumstances he goes through. Since then, he feels like everyone hates him and nobody is willing to show him any compassion or extend a single olive branch to him and he's been completely fucked over by it and comes to hate other people. Eventually he meets Raphtalia, a woman who shows him compassion, believes in him despite his flaws, supports him, and helps him become better. I see a lot of real, young men become like Naofumi because of the things that have gone through and this anime shows how meaningful and supportive a single kind word and compassionate voice from just one person can do for someone like that.
sometimes one word, good word can change a persons life..and not dunking on men from grade school, telling little boys that they are toxic and evil..
An episode where all this went down made me cry. It felt like, "Finally, someone understands."
It sounds like a very deep and hard hitting anime, but you've all said so much about the first season! Got to check it out 💯
I would add one thing to this description.
Despite how he was treated and despite his cynical and spiteful view of people..... he still treats Raphtalia well from the start. He buys her as a slave, but he feeds her, clothes her, equips her, and trains her. He tries to keep that hard facade that she's just a tool for his goals, but it's clear that it's a fake mask and he offers her compassion from the start.
That is entirely by design. The OP are meant to hype the viewers up and the ED is meant to soothe and calm down viewers.
I've been on stream with you for months now trying to get Shield Hero put on the vote, I was just lucky enough to get some backing by a few others during that vote. I knew you would absolutely love MadKid it's why I was pushing for it.
You are pretty spot on with your assessment of characters and plot. The big "chicken" are called Filolial they more closely resemble the big riding birds from the Final Fantasy game franchise.

There are some other references like Prinnies (the penguins from Disgaea franchise) and, if I remember
well, around that part in the story there is an “en passant” mention about previous heroes, presumably from (some) Japan and presumably who created those races.
I'm still surprised that noone recomended Toradora, or Charlotte, or Erased, or even Tokyo Ravens, there are soo much good old openings

The shield hero is a generally dark series that is somewhat subversive of the isekai trope (at least at the time). It tends to play human vices more realistically and shows the real potential of how badly that could affect others in a world of magic.
And while it'd be enjoyable to read, the anime cut out and watered down SO many things that it actually started to play out like a generic isekai. There was a plot point I waited for so long to get and soldiered through the other changes, only for them to completely ruin that too. I was furious.
I didn't even bother to watch season 2 but I saw people talking about the animation taking a massive hit. Honestly this is something I'd recommend to read and not watch.
