Great content, well explained, and a worthwhile £300 saved. 👍Given its age, overall visual condition, and the fact that these blower motors get an awful lot of use, I might have been inclined to inspect / replace the brushes and clean the commutator while I had it on the bench. It is hassle enough pulling the blower motor out of the car and dismantling it. I would not want to do it more than once if I could avoid it. That said, thank you for putting another job within the grasp of a DIYer.
A job I've done many times although if the brushes look worn away I usually change them whilst I'm in there. Whether I change them or not, I always spin the commutator against a cotton bud soaked in contact cleaner or meths as there is always a build up of old carbon which reduces the efficiency of the motor. Hi Paul... is this what I can hear before I start the car? There is a small humming noise that happens as soon as i open the door, ive looked on the forums and a few have said it's this that kicks in, is that correct, although it seems to come from my drivers side, do you have the same? cheers
The noise you describe is the air aspirator ( a little device behind the steering wheel look for a little grill on the trim) it samples the air in the cabin for temperature. They are a bit noisy 🤔
Another great fix, love to see these little repairs instead of getting the wallet out. Well done.
Thanks Buddy

I was thinking about doing that but it's been running great so far 👍
