That's exactly what I was thinking, and they definitely should add more enemies and hazards.
It's prob still in Beta and Nintendo will prob add features like that in the final product. A lot can be added in 6+ months when this game is released in 2015.
You can use new super mario bros and 8 bit graphics so far

Aside from SMB and New SMB, I wanna see SMB2 and SMB3 as skins.
Reminds me of ROM hacking only a lot more simple. Definitely going to spend hours on this. Hopefully you can switch to SMB3 style, SMW style, and so on in the future.

To all the people saying it looks too limited: Listen to yourselves! This is an early E3 demo, of course it's limited. It doesn't come out until next year, and Tezuka said it would have more styles and many more features when it's done.

I''m very excited to see what this could become when finished. It also will probably cut down on fan made Mario level makers if it is good enough. Not to mention, even once it is finished, I don't see why they couldn't still add more stuff and update it.
this is actually slightly watered down version of the mario flash level maker, or the mario world level editor. i hope their are more options in the full version is what i mean by this comment, not trying to hate on mario maker.

I'm seeing so many good ideas on the comments here, like making castle levels or underground and even water levels. I hope that there is a way to share the levels you make online and even download others levels and rate them and give them feedback as well. To help make everyones levels better

I really hope there is a LOT of improvement later.
Travel through the pipes.
When making CLASSIC Mario levels, don't stack enemies on top of each other, and have the stiff NES controls.
Have castle/boss levels too, with the classic axe and bridge over lava while fighting Bowser.

Wow that looked extremely entertaining. Initial thoughts were skeptical but it looked very easy to manipulate. I remember when LittleBigPlanet came out and I wanted something similar to this, but the interface was just too complex at the time. This looks very fun to hop into. Can't wait to share levels with others on its release!

This should have a two player mode.
I wonder if the game devs will start using this as a tool in the creation of new games. that way, they could save time making levels *and* release the new game's features as DLC for the Mario Maker! :D
wow. This is cooler than NSMBU and NSMB2 combined! (maybe that's pushing it, but whatever. Still cool idea). To those who think there should be more to this... well this game is still in development. It is coming out in 2015. Give it some time!
I think it has a lot of potential. Making a lot of classic Mario levels with the New Super Mario Bros. U paint job sounds incredible!
It's literally a game for everyone because it uses both the retro and current art styles.

This editor needs more stuff. Like Advanced stuff, like if you we're making an official mario bros level or even a mario bros game.
For example:
-All Powerups
-Types of levels, underground, sky, soda jungle, etc.
-More styles
-Level sizes
-Level Properties
-Many elements that we have seen in mario games, Interactive platforms, Blocks, Bosses
-Decorations
-Music, Level Themes
-Star coins
-Multiplayer
-Etc..
And if its possible, to make your own Mario maps/ Mario Level Packs. Or have the ability to modify SMB, And/Or SMB.U Courses.
If that happens, could you rename your app to Super Mario Bros Studio, or something like that? To make the name even more professional.
By that I would love it so much.
Btw. This thing is still a good tool that we can use.
We also _cannot_ forget about Bullet Bills and Bullet Bill Blasters, Rocket Engines and Rocket Engine Blasters, Cannon Balls and Cannons, and the Airship/Tank/Battleship themes from Super Mario Bros. 3 that go with these; as well as underwater themes and enemies that are found in the said underwater themes in Super Mario Bros./New Super Mario Bros. video games like Cheep-Cheeps and Bloopers - these are _all _*_sorely_*_ lacking_ in this software!!!! Plus the levels are way, _way_ too short in this software - *_*seriously,*_*_ why are there _*_only_*_ _*_*3*_*_ _*_screen lengths_*_ in any given custom level?!?!?!?!?!_

I don't think you get it. First off, we haven't seen everything, and you'd be ridiculous for thinking we have. If this is all of it, it would be out by now... Besides, if they DID add so much of your requests, you wouldn't really need another Mario game with in this genre of the series. Why would they do that? That would be stupid. That would mean less money. *sigh
Yeah we know, we are not stupid.... They said that this is not the final product. And they said they will add more stuff to the app. So we are suggesting or rumoring what things could the editor have.
This looks great. I can't stop thinking of Cloud Berry Kingdom. CBK I think is great because of all the multiplayer. Maybe this will have multiplayer too.

I hope they add things from Japanese Mario 2 (Lost Levels), like the wind, poison mushrooms, etc.
If you look closely on the left you can see that there is a bar so you can drag to different styles signalling that they are working on more styles.

*1)* This is definitely what the Mario community's wanted for a long time now. There's been several well-noticed but unofficial Mario game builders (_Mario Builder_, _SMB Game Master_, and _Super Mario Bros. X_) but never anything developed by Nintendo themselves. It's about time, but considering the 30th anniversary of _Super Mario Bros._ is in 2015, I guess maybe it's going to be the celebration of that. Well, that's already better than just a port of _Super Mario All-Stars_.
*2)* There's definitely going to be more content added in the future. _Super Mario Flash_ already has more to offer than this… speaking of which, some of the levels showcased in this video look like some of the insane stuff people have put in that game, now that I think of it.
*3)* I have no doubt that they'll have more "texture packs" than just the two shown here. They're also bound to have more playable characters each with different stats, like Luigi, Peach, Toad, Rosalina, and (please don't kill me for saying this)… no, never mind, he'd never make it in.
*4)* I hope we can "link" levels together to make a full-out adventure rather than be restricted to sharing just the levels themselves. It'd be especially nice if we could also design a world map to go along with them.

yeah all the backgrounds and stuff from previous mario games and allow different level lengths so someone can make a really long level if they want
Guys I am sure there will be a lot more content and options added then what we are looking at right now, the game is coming out in 2015. If this was pretty much all there was to it then it would definitely be a 2014 release.
