I've got a small spiral notebook that my Grandmother was given for a wedding present. Its pages are filled with recipes from her older families and friends. Mind you, some of these ladies were daughters of Confederate Veterans! My favorite is one for Pecan pie. It calls for a "nickles worth" of pecans. To me, it's a priceless family treasure!
Linda, I’m 73, live alone, and have my own recipes. I rarely cook anymore, as it’s hard for one person. I do really enjoy following your home renovation and decorating.
Hi Sherry . .. I'm just wanting to share with you what a lady that was 91 shared with me years ago...she said cook for yourself if it is too much all the better you'll have leftovers and or freeze portions for days you don't feel like cooking. I've never forgotten that advice and I've always done it even when the family was still home. She made home made noodles they were so good..she taught me to make them too .hope this is an encouragement .❤
Good morning Linda , what a pleasure to wake up and find a new YT video from you! It is going to be cold & rainy here in Michigan today, so what better way to spend the day….a cup of coffee, wrapped in my favorite quilt, enjoying your delightful channel. Thank you for all that you share with us. Have a lovely day !
I love Frick and Frack! Just looked up the origin of the words/names. Frick is the name of a small village in Switzerland; Frack is a Swiss-German word for a frock coat. Also Frick and Frack were a comedic ice skating duo who went to the US in 1937 and joined the original Ice Follies show. I have a canvas tote filled with the same info you described along with a handy tape measure. I enjoy thrifting and consignment shopping because it's fun and you never know what you're going to find. My Miss Pierce reigns supreme over the buffet in my dining room. Thanks for the info you shared today, Linda. Have a nice day.
The apple cake sounds delicious, and the corn chowder would be a close second. Thank you for all that you do to bring such wonderful content to all of us "kindred spirits"!
I just made those eggs-except l cut a light zig zag around the edges! 🐥 My husband and l have been in the antiques business for over 40 years. It's very smart to keep a notebook with you-measurements, fabric swatches, stain, paint colors...and don't forget those important doorway measurements!
I've been making my own vanilla for many years, and it's become a cherished tradition, eagerly anticipated by everyone at Christmas. Your channel brings me joy, and I believe we're around the same age, which makes it even more enjoyable. Thank you for the fun content! Here, we're still buried under 6 feet of snow - quite the winter wonderland!
I have a recipe that has a shallot sautéed in butter and cooled. Then I add it to the mashed egg yolk with mayonnaise, sour cream, salt and cayenne pepper. After piping the filling into the white part of the egg I use finely chopped chives and grated lemon zest on top. Colorful and delish.
Linda....I always love how you share your short comings while you are moving through the video. I have both ADHD and Deslexia. This can cause so many problems either cooking or decorating and even reading! I always buy something when I see it because every time I have not I have regreated it. Thank you for your advice it is always both thoughtful and oh so useful!!!❤❤❤
The fresh apple cake sounds wonderful, and for the savory, the broccoli soup. ❤ whatever is chosen, I’m sure it will be wonderful. Mothers are precious. I just lost mine. ❤❤❤
What a nice surprise to find a video from you on a Friday Linda! I also love thrifting and finding antique pieces which I have incorporated into my home decor. Your tips are very helpful especially when it comes to taking measurements. The apple cake recipe sounds very interesting to me! We are enjoying the sunshine after many days of rain. Have a great day!
Love your inspiration notebook. What a good idea! Family recipes are so much fun. Deviled eggs: 6 eggs,1/4 C Mayo, 1 t yellow mustard, 1 t cider vinegar. Yum! I have a printed cookbook published 1861 that belonged to a past grandmother.
Linda, my vote is Molasses Cookies. Next, is Apple Cake. Just wanted to share that I was visiting the NY Botanical Garden recently and learned that vanilla beans come from a specific type of Orchid plant!! I never knew!!
oh Linda! you just look so fantastic. So springy!!! I vote for the corn chowder and the broccoli soup. I love old recipes. I have my mom's old file box with her hand written recipes. it makes me happy to see her handwriting. Now, my pup Nevin's wants to know how much Willa gets paid to supervise you. lol! I love seeing her in the videos. And normally when watching i have either Nevins my Bichon or Wilbur my Newfoundland sitting near me watching with me. So Nevins thinks he should be paid. haha! Hope you enjoy this spring like weather. I like you am itching to get outside!
I used to antique shop as a young twenty something, and it’s so true to me what you said in your closing, what you thrift now will some day BE an antique! So here I am, 50 years later (OMG) and enjoying my antiques!
Dear Linda,my pick for recipe is the bread pudding. Hugs💞Oh also, I so enjoyed your tutorial about shopping, antiques and thrift, especially the maker marks.
Linda, that’s what I love about you and that is that we are truly kindred spirits. I love love love to thrift and antique shop. My home like yours is 90% thrifted. I love when I have something that I had since I was young and it was a cheap item because that’s what I could afford and now I am replacing all the cheap things with better quality from the thrift store or the antique store. I also at 58 years old get what I want. My motto is you may as well buy what you want and enjoy it because you can’t take it with you and young adults of today don’t seem to cherish their parents treasures like I did/do. Thanks for sharing!❤❤❤
When I was in my 30s I kept a gallon zip lock with fabrics and paint samples in the car. I was never afraid of mixing patterns and colors. Thrifting is a treasure hunt. Marketplace is a great resource Decorating is satisfying Enjoy the channel
I too keep a small notebook in my purse of house measurements but a binder of pictures is a great idea. Chicks so cute. I miss my mom's bread pudding. I have many of her recipes but not that one. She made the best date squares as well. Thank you for the special memories. I love thrifting. You always find the best things. Those tips are very helpful.
MISS LINDA❤ I bought your Vanilla for a House warming gift I am so excited to give it to my girlfriend ! I know she will be making her husband some amazing bunch if cookies I am also going to give her your bourbon cookie recipe !!! THANK YOU THE BOTTLE AND LABEL THE WHOLE PACKAGING IS BEAUTIFUL !!❤ LOVE THAT YOU SEND IT WITH A VELVET BAG CLASSY!! MAY YOU BE BLESSED ABUNDANTLY! 😊🥰
My vote is for Hermits- I had to google what that even was!...lol. Looks like a New England thing that I never grew up eating (from CT). I'm sure they will all be yummy whichever one you choose to make first. Great video.
The bottle is very nice, I would reuse it for sure! My mother in law always said oleo and used it in her baking recipes. She passed a few years ago at 92 years old and was still baking with oleo. My daughter in law made chick eggs one Easter and she said they were a lot of work! Such patience you have. I usually add some horseradish to my deviled eggs, makes them devilish. Yours are so cute. Thank you for your thrifting hints, let the hunt begin!
Yes, it's the hunt! I think that's why I love thrifting and antique stores as well. It's like striking gold when you find the item you were either looking for or not!
Corn chowder is my pick ,I am interested in the cotton seed oil ,I have never seen it for sale ,my mother was an excellent cook and she never used it and 3rd I am from the South and you would think it would be common. I make poppy seed dressing but just use a neutral oil. In my area we don’t have good thrift stores, they are basically junk stores,we do have plenty of Antique stores and estate sells and I am using the word estate loosely but some are wonderful. Thanks for sharing,I always appreciate the work you put into your videos 🌿🍃
So true about measuring doorways- Several years ago I moved a refrigerator into my mudroom as an overflow fridge for the veggies being harvested from my garden; once they were eaten or processed (canned/frozen) the fridge became the 'drinks' fridge. But my mudroom doorway was too small!!! I ended up taking off all the trim and widening the doorway to get the fridge in. Luckily I can do carpentry- I've had to make many improvements to this circa 1959 house.
ADORABLE Chicks! I've never heard of Cottonseed Oil, I'm anxious to hear what you think of it. I grew up with (and have made numerous times) the Strawberry Jello pie (and Raspberry, my favorite). I too have a box of family recipes and having them in our loved ones handwriting is priceless.....something we need to remember in this computer age, having recipes in OUR handwriting. Have a great week my friend!
Coconut Balls, my Ma Kate used Oleo, she had a lot of recipes in her Church cook book. One of my sisters made copies of hand written family recipes & gave as family gifts. The chick eggs are so cute. thank you Linda
I agree the hunt is fun, and I keep a wish list of things family and friends want. It took almost a year, but last week I found a mounted pheasant for a friend at a great price she was thrilled. She's planning on using it for her Thanksgiving table decor.
Love this video surprise today! My family calls me the "resale shop queen." 😂 Almost everything in my home is either handed down or thrifted. The most valuable lesson I've learned, which took a few times, is if you really like it, get it. Have had my heart broken a few times b/c I didn't pull the trigger and get it. I have a vision binder and you've inspired me to put one in the car. I have a suspicion that there will be a whole lot of deviled chicks on tables this Easter! I vote for Corn Chowder and Broccoli Soup Recipes! Have a wonderful day!
Hi Linda, currently watching your latest video! My vote for your Mom's recipe is - Corn Chower! I have already purchased your vanilla. Love that it comes in a velvet pouch to keep the light away. Looking forward to baking with it! You are the best!
Please make the apple cake and hermit recipes. Also, tip for removing eggshells quickly: crack the egg just a bit so that you can get a spoon wedged between egg and shell. Glide the spoon between the two to pull away the shell. 😊
I do keep a small book of measurements, colors, pieces I am looking for etc. Take it with me always-you never know when you will come across something special. Great ideas.
Good morning Linda. I had to laugh when you said "Oleo" I haven't heard that for years. I love healthy eating . Old recipes are my favorite so is making from scratch foods. Love sharing my morning with you. Sharon
Love your channel. I’ve a Michigan double AA accent, even though I’ve lived in California for the last 40 years. Listening to you makes me like iam back home in my mom’s kitchen. 15:44
Good Morning Linda, Enjoyed seeing today's informative video, I had to laugh 😂 at your trying to make the second egg stand up, I think it must have been the shelled egg with the bumps before you cooked the eggs 😂. (I also like olives) Many great recipes to share with us my first choice stove top bread pudding, second corn chowder although hope to see all of the recipes made at sometime. Enjoyed seeing Willow 🐕 he is such a pleasure to watch. Many blessings and enjoy the longer brightness in the evenings come this weekend.☮
Pretty in pink! Love the idea of the design book. That's a very good idea. Those "don't stand up eggs," maybe taking a small slice off the bottom to provide a flat surface, or egg cups? But you know that. That was a really cute idea. Willow is in her spot and all is good in the world, at least in her world. Hermits or apple cake is my request. Thanks for your solid advise!
Thank you for those helpful thrifting tips. I laughed when you were measuring the door. We were gifted a corner cabinet, dated 1790, and ended up taking out our front door and trim to get it into the house. My husband ended up making the front door larger! I love old recipes that are handed down. I have so many of my mothers, grandmothers and mother in law’s recipes. Please share the corn chowder and coconut balls.
O yes Linda...i too love thrifting and garage sales you can't find older things in a new store. I so enjoy "hanging out"with you those little chicks were so cute. . I got so tickled at you fussing with the one little guy.😂 i can't wait for gardening to start .. and i think i would enjoy the corn chowder. Give your mom a hug for us and tell her Thank you for sharing with us. ❤❤
Love how you got all your mom’s recipes. When my mom passed I have her recipe box & have used many of her recipes. The funny thing in watching you list your moms today was I have all of those from my mom except the poppy seed dressing. Maybe because my family is also from Nova Scotia which I believe you said yours are also. I make the hermits every year for xmas and corn chowder once a month. Strawberry pie made with jello strawberries ice cream & cool whip in a crust for summer parties. I have my own version n broccoli cheddar soup but would vote for you to video that one!
Whatever you share I'll certainly love! Corn chowder is my favorite soup...I'd love to see your family's recipe compared to our PA Dutch version which we add rivel to ours! Also, my grandmother always added a splash of white vinegar to her deviled eggs which gives it a little zest! I was fortunate to ask her before she passed why her deviled eggs were always so good! Hope you have a great week! Looking forward to the next video! ❤️
I'm intrigued by the fresh apple cake and would love the corn chowder. I carry scraps of fabric and paint samples, but really love your notebook. Thank you for that beautiful tip.
Good morning. I would like to see the baking of the strawberry pie and the apple cake, I believe you stated it was a cake :). I love recipes from family members, just makes me feel as if I am baking right with loved ones. Thank you for sharing your mother’s recipes.
Eons ago, I had a salad with poppyseed dressing at a restaurant in Woodstock, VT. It was the best ever, and I have never come across it since. I had no idea that it was healthy. Happy days!
I slice a sliver off of each end of the egg then cut in half short side. That way they sit up nicely and you have 2 eggs. Plus I dip a toothpick in fresh ground pepper for the eyes.(the pepper sticks to the toothpick when dipped in the egg mix) I love your idea of the carrot for the beak!
Thank you so much for this video! It was full of good advice both the notebook idea and your suggestions for thrift ing and antiquing! I hope you were able to get into the gardens!
My vote is for the hermit recipe! Thanks for the great tips on thrifting. I will be making the egg chicks for Easter. You always provide wonderful ideas. 💜
Hey Linda and once again thank you for all the valuable information.. Always good to know.. Easter Chicks so quite.. Can't wait till the next time.. Until then..
I love the little chick deviled eggs…so cute. Your house is so beautiful. I love that you said you don’t have to thrift but like too. I found a Hobby Lobby canister marked 27.99 , a Macys skirt, a pullover, a hammer , two pairs of reading glasses ( my hubbys ) and an adorable grey ceramic rabbit…five dollars for all at an estate sale.
Linda, thank you for this video. What a nice surprise to receive it today. All your ideas are so interesting and you present them in such a relaxing atmosphere. It was just what I needed after a tiring day at work. God bless your "kindred spirit", Robert.
My grandmother taught me to make deviled eggs using mustard, salt, pepper and white vinegar or pickle juice instead of mayonnaise. The reason being is she would make dozens and dozens of them for church functions and for family on Sundays and she had 9 children and 54 grandchildren, everyone came over at different times on Sundays so she was able to leave the eggs out without going back and forth to the refrigerator and the vinegar gives them the tang of mayonnaise. Hope you have a wonderful weekend ❤
First - my recipe vote is for the corn chowder. The thrifting notebook is SO handy. I added an inside pocket to mine when I was looking for a replacement pot lid; I traced and cut out the size of the pot opening, and just popped out the circle of paper whenever I found orphaned lids in a store. 👍 Lastly, the vanilla bottle is perfect for repurposing as a limoncello gift bottle. ❤ Thanks for this fun Friday surprise video. Enjoy your weekend!🧤✂️🌿🌷
Your videos are always so enjoyable to watch! Great ideas today- love the binder with all the home details! As I’m trying to remember what Benjamin Moore white I used downstairs I wish I had a notebook with the colors I used! I’m hoping the old can is in the garage! 🤞 And those eggs!! Adorable! My husband was walking by while I was watching and he remarked, “those are cute!” Enjoy your nice weather this weekend! We have some beautiful weather coming this week but a rainy weekend in MA. Good weather for finishing up my lengthy list of indoor projects!
Hi Linda, well this is a treat to wake up to have coffee with you!I'm glad you showed how to do the chicks my daughter always does the eggs at Easter I'm going to show her this cuteness! That pink blouse looks beautiful on you.Have a wonderful day kindred 🕊️💚🌼
Linda, all the nutritionists I listen to say that seed oils are the worst for health, and cottonseed oil is one of those. You can make that same recipe with olive oil (EVOO) which is very heart healthy. I make mine with EVOO and raw honey and apple cider vinegar (and spices).
Hi Linda, Love the chicks! While thrifting and antiquing, I always have a tape measure and magnifying glass. Measurements and samples are such a great idea; I do it on a small scale but love your notebook. Please make the broccoli soup and the coconut balls-but the soup is on my wish list!
First, I look forward to watching you each week! Your videos provide such inspiration and are fun to watch! I would love to see the poppyseed dressing or apple bread recipes. Enjoy your beautiful weather.
Thanks for this lovely video! I hope spring stays! In the North we really should not plan on it! I love to make binders of my house ideas and measurements. It really does help when you are looking for stuff. I have a cookbook that my cousin made from older relatives. It is so special to have all of these recipes. When thrifting, If you really want it do not wait! We all think about the one that got away! Please have a great weekend!
Linda thank you so much for the information on how to measureThe door and also thank you for the information you gave to us about The antique dishes I really appreciate it really inspire me to learn more and really enjoy your videos thank you so much 🎉
I love watching your videos, you inspire me to thrift and find the treasures to use in my home. I thrifted Santa mugs one year and it was so much fun, and use them at Christmas.
I love that! That is a family treasure for sure!!!!!
You should frame it for your kitchen.
Linda, I’m 73, live alone, and have my own recipes. I rarely cook anymore, as it’s hard for one person. I do really enjoy following your home renovation and decorating.

I was so excited to see a bonus video. Enjoy the day.
Hope you enjoyed it! It is taking place of a Sunday video this week
Corn chowder and Fresh apple cake ❤ but all the recipes sound delicious. Thank you for a lovely Sunday morning video.
The stovetop bread pudding sounds great, strawberry pie second
Thank you! I will write that down!

My husband and l have been in the antiques business for over 40 years. It's very smart to keep a notebook with you-measurements, fabric swatches, stain, paint colors...and don't forget those important doorway measurements!
The zig zag I'm sure makes it look much more real! (as real as can be LOL).
I do the same. Also, I cut across the bottom so chick will sit upright.🐣
I've been making my own vanilla for many years, and it's become a cherished tradition, eagerly anticipated by everyone at Christmas. I can’t imagine a life as full and glorious as yours! Beautiful content!
The eggs would be cute on a buffet....maybe take a little slice off the bottom so they sit up.
BTW, I love that green room, so pretty.
What a nice surprise to find a video from you on a Friday Linda! I also love thrifting and finding antique pieces which I have incorporated into my home decor. Dear Linda,my pick for recipe is the bread pudding. Hugs💞Oh also, I so enjoyed your tutorial about shopping, antiques and thrift, especially the maker marks.

I’m so glad you like it! The velvet bag was the owner of the company’s idea. I love it too!!!
I usually add a splash of plain white vinegar to the yolk mixture...adds a little bite and brightness
My vote is for Hermits- I had to google what that even was!...lol. Looks like a New England thing that I never grew up eating (from CT). I'm sure they will all be yummy whichever one you choose to make first. Great video.

What a treat! I am struggling to concentrate on work today and finding you on UA-cam just brightened my day! ❤
Hi Linda, currently watching your latest video! My vote for your Mom's recipe is - Corn Chower!
I have already purchased your vanilla. Love that it comes in a velvet pouch to keep the light away. Looking forward to baking with it!
You are the best!
Loved the long chatty video. I vote for the apple cake and strawberry pie (too hard to choose just one!). Thanks for sharing.

Good Morning Linda, Enjoyed seeing today's informative video, I had to laugh 😂 at your trying to make the second egg stand up, I think it must have been the shelled egg with the bumps before you cooked the eggs 😂. (I also like olives)
Many great recipes to share with us my first choice stove top bread pudding, second corn chowder although hope to see all of the recipes made at sometime.
Thanks for all the great tips, I also enjoy the hunt of finding great items❣️
That pink blouse is definitely your color. You look fantastic in it. Enjoy your program. You have so much energy.
Love that I have found your channel! And love that you named the dogs Frick and Frack. My mom called my two younger brothers - Frick and Frack 😂
Poppyseed salad dressing....! Helpful tips...like the idea of putting a notebook of room themes, colors and measurements!!
For deviled eggs, I do mayo, mustard, a tad of sour cream (small amount) and salt and pepper. It comes out creamy.
Some excellent tips here Linda, especially the home decor book you keep in the car. Very informative!
I too love to thrift!!! So much fun in every season. And I look forward to your videos. Love your beautiful cozy home.
Happy days!
Love your site, the book idea is great, I think I’ll put one together. Such a joy watching all your videos!!
Great information Linda! But to be perfectly honest I got a little distracted watching Willow on her window bench ❤❤❤ She’s so cute I can’t help it
She is good girl for sure!
Oh, what fun to help pick! Apple cake & both soups sound wonderful! Thank you for the wonderful video, I really enjoy each & every one!
Thank you for all that you share! I love that your Mom is sharing her recipes with you/us. Sending a hug for her! Corn chowder recipe, please.
Thank you! I don’t know why I didn’t think about cutting the bottom. I do that with my strawberry Santa Claus.
Any and all chowders!! Thank you Linda❤I love your channel❤
Broccoli soup sounds like something I might try. Great start to my Friday ❤
Hi Linda! Please, please pretty please with sugar on top: CORN CHOWDER!
God bless your "kindred spirit",
Robert.
I love the sound of that! Thank you for sharing!
Lastly, the vanilla bottle is perfect for repurposing as a limoncello gift bottle. ❤
Thanks for this fun Friday surprise video. Enjoy your weekend!🧤✂️🌿🌷
That is a good idea about tracing the lid and putting it in your book! A limoncello bottle is a good idea too!
A bit off topic, but would you consider making a video about styles of wall molding and what works well, and in which rooms, in a traditional home?
I’m always looking for suggestions for topics!
What a treat to see you mid-week! I vote for Corn Chowder because my nutritionist said I need to eat more soup.
Linda, all the nutritionists I listen to say that seed oils are the worst for health, and cottonseed oil is one of those. You can make that same recipe with olive oil (EVOO) which is very heart healthy. I make mine with EVOO and raw honey and apple cider vinegar (and spices).
Slightly slice off the bottom of the egg to create a flat surface!❤️ Love your channel!❤️
Fresh apple cake sounds wonderful.❤
