Great review, the Commodores and Falcons are by far my favourite cars, the inclusions for the money are always great and I particularly like the seats as I find them much softer and more comfortable than the hard types so often used in other models. Such a shame they are coming to an end. 😭
Great review ! I waited and found a used SV6 VFII Black edition in Green in manual. More than enough power for me and lovi'n the manual. Cant use a SS in syd traffic, unless i want to pay heaps of fines.

Same here. I always dreamt about owning one brand new and told my father I would own a Commodore one day. Surely enough I bought a VZ Calais and I love it heaps. I'll be getting a VF Calais as my next car. It is a shame that production shut down. I was the plant on its last day and I have to say, it was a bittersweet time.
We just bought a 2023 Mitsubishi, very nice car (next level down from top...so similar to my 2016 VF Black). The VF is way better to drive, more mod cons...better made and handles our roads like it was made for it...Funny that..i.e.: go Firetruck yourself GM
I missed out on buying a commodore and now used models are going for 100% more than they are worth. 2015 model with 80,000k on the clock for $32k. I thought the sv6 was $38k new!!!
I drove down the M1 and the entire portion of The Great Ocean Road in my 05' V6 Calais. Absolutely loved every minute of it and its so true. Even in the older version of the Commodore/Calais range its so comfortable and the lumbar support works wonders when soaking up the miles. Even fuel consumption was decent too in the old beast with an average of about 8.4L/100kms M1 stretch then about 9.5L-10.5L around The Great Ocean Road. Will have to do the drive again in my next Calais.
Need to do one of these with the SS versions. We need to hear that engine on a nice long drive, on a nice long video. Some shots from the outside with a bit less music would be fantastic. There aren't too many videos showcasing the sound of the bi-modal.
The forward collision / lane departure warning is completely useless on VF Commodore variants with it. It doesn’t apply brakes if it senses a collision, only primes brakes so they work quicker and flashes a red warning sign on heads up display and beeps. Good thing it doesn’t apply brakes too as it will go off on false alarm way too much to be considered a useful piece of equipment. Lane departure doesn’t control steering wheel only beeps on left or right side of speakers depending on which side you venture over on, lane departure warning works to a adequate degree. Default setting is off when you start the car as long as it’s not turned on previously. It’s almost like Holden knew the technology was a piece of shit. Cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, reverse camera works well and the automatic park is a cool party trick although you have to select reverse and drive or reverse and first in the manual and drive the car in controlling the brake or brake and clutch in the manual. Newer versions of this technology on other cars will do braking and gear changes automatically. To be fair it was 2013 when Holden introduced this technology. The in car entertainment system MyLink (Mystink) is rooted. Bluetooth paired connections will drop out if you skip too many tracks, Navigation has lost my trust when relied upon to navigate away from suburbs, sometimes I compare what MyLink and Apple maps on iPhone consider routes home and they are completely different (Apple is never wrong) Pandora function doesn’t work since Pandora is not longer available in Australia. No DAB radio. CD/DVD player ditched in series 2 . Anyway to criticise the Holden Commodore for those short comings is really nitpicking, all the good points mentioned in the review are true. You can fit two booster seats and a baby seat along the backseat, a lot of bigger shitbox 4wds can’t do that. Cheapish to service and insure in Australia, I’ve owned a VK, VY VE and 2x VFs never had a mechanical failure. It’s a shame time had to move on past the Holden Commodore, but with electric cars coming over the horizon Cars like the Holden Commodore where never going to be here forever.

The sv6 is about $12000 cheaper than the base model ss, Depending on age, driver history ect $500 cheaper pa for insurance give or take, about $300 pa cheaper for registration and around 2-3 km per liter better fuel economy than a v8. U NO ???
I'm glad you like this car. I'll be looking for one at the end of 2018, and considering some others like the Optima, Sonata, 6, Camry...
AutoCritic Buy some glasses. I did and it made a difference.
Does anything look like a gorgeous Mazda 6? Anything as ripped as a SV6 or SS? Or individual as an Optima?
AutoCritic Good afternoon to you, too.
Apology for my glasses comment.
AutoCritic I am apologizing for telling you to buy glasses 😎
That’s white btw
Ford sync 3 kills Holden my link! DAB radio and apple car play
No arguments there, although the newer MyLink is much better than the version in the Commodore.
I have a SSV Redline and it's pretty disappointing that there is no DAB
Turbo it......
I find the SV6 quite wallows quite badly in the rear, which can be a bit unsettling into high speed corners. Average high 6s in fuel though!
High 6 L/100 km eh?
Adam Leask high 6s, like 10.
Adam Leask try taking off from a traffic light on a wet weather, nearly crash twice just trying to exit my workplace car park. So I trade it in for 27k
I wish we had these in USA .
Um. You do. Chevy SS - the V8 Commodore SS is exported to the USA.
CarAdvice.com yeah we only have the v8 version in USA . The fuel is too expensive in Cali.
CaliBoyz LOL seeing an american complain about fuel is funny as fuck! In Europe petrol is about $1.6 per liter about $6 per gallon!
We also got the VE as the G8. I want one so bad
Travis Toole wait you guys got the VE too? Woah... you learn something new every day
Not one burnout? What kind of shit Peter Wherret review is this? Next the reviewer will be wearing a a floral frock.
1 bonnet strut ....
Great P Plate car
No it is not
In the states teens drive Camaro v6 with 1Le package for $35000usd
@@jenny8296 In my personal opinion it is a pretty good car because its P Plate approved, it has relatively cheap spare parts, Its Australian Made and you can pick one up for about 20K.
@@hughmungus7570 not a great p plate car when an xr6 does everything better.
@@lukesm5747 im a Ford man but I've got to be honest the egg shaped falcons are a complete turn off, interior is nothing but plastic only thing going for it is a tad more torque
