    This run was done on the US version and without resets, as those impact the RNG and would drastically change the route for this game. My best time, and current world record, on the Japanese version is a 3:14:20 and can be seen here: / 419640700
    You can find additional information about Robotrek on my website, including a full bestiary, detailed battle mechanics info, and damage calculations:

    I'm really happy with this run, but it can improved by a lot. This is the most representative Robotrek run I can imagine; I got unbelievably amazing luck in several fights, and ridiculously bad luck in most of the rest of the game. It is a perfect representation of how speedruns of this normally pan out. I imagine this version can drop down to a 3:15 or lower with good luck and a more patient runner, but that is not me. I am very satisfied with what I've accomplished, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes in the future!
    This run was streamed live on my Twitch channel. To watch this run with the live commentary, you can find it here: / 415576353

    Nice! Your run from the RPG Limit Break 2016 is still one of my favorite things and one of the funniest runs to watch, I'm excited to see what went better or worse in this one too.

    Congratulations, good sir. Always seems that, even with the growing speedrunner community due to increasing public presence, the incredible amount of work and effort, usually by a small army of different folks combined, that goes into crafting a run like this will never be able to be properly appreciated. You're quite an inspiring dude.
    I really want to grab myself a copy of this game someday; it still amazes me how many secondary titles there were for the venerable ol' SNES that I have never heard of until recently, that I would have loved to played back in the day.

    Hey PJ! Great run and commentary as always, thanks so much!
    Just want to say that at 3:09:03 when you say that it's a point of no return, actually at the screen at 3:09:47 you can still use the Spaceship to fly out of the Fortress to wherever you want, even back to Quintenix. When you return to the Fortress after that, you just have to start off again from the room Princess Tira was held in and work your way back to Napoleon who'll chuck you across the gap again.

    Late to this, but I always appreciate your Commentary videos. I had this game as a kid and always got completely stonewalled at De Rose, so it's particularly satisfying seeing that crit chain

    I've never seen a video of speedrun about this game. Thank you. My first time playing this game was in ~1997 irc. This game was always difficult for me and a friend. Last year I was able to beat the game and now watching this video, I think made me think that, I need to play this much more in order to be like you. I enjoy watching and listening to you on this run. Lol, I went to your website and I remember that I used that page to use the calculator. That thing really helps me a lot.

    It is amazing to see that someone speedran this game at all, let alone to this depth. It is the first RPG I ever got to finish on the SNES so it is special. I never knew of the secret items, like the Hammer 2, and the money in Rococo, and wonder how you ever found them!

  • @jimmrazek
    @jimmrazek 3 роки тому

    So first off, thank you for this! I’m starting to try and run it myself right now, and I have a weird question: why do you mess with the color slider when making the first robot? Is there an advantage to that?

    • @TheSuperSNES
      @TheSuperSNES  3 роки тому +2

      Nope! No advantage. I just don't like the default colors and if I'm gonna spend 4 hours looking at it I'd rather a different color. Haha.

    How did you make your robot "go berserk" and kill all 3 enemies in 1 turn?

    • @TheSuperSNES
      @TheSuperSNES  4 роки тому +3

      It's a custom attack, RXR, that you can program with the invention machine. Melee weapon on right hand and bomb on backpack.

    A little bit of lore I noticed while everything was speeding by, in the ending "flashback" sequence when you see your mother and father naming you, your mother is just called Mother instead of Nagisa.
    I know Nagisa is an android built to look like your mom, but I think this is the only time its actually referenced in game? I just thought it was interesting, and it makes the scene sadder somehow

    • @TheSuperSNES

      I *think* there are some more hints about that if you read your father's diary (pressing search while in his bed in his house), but I don't remember exactly what it says. It's definitely glossed over a bit though!

    • @DeathofChrono
      @DeathofChrono 2 роки тому

      @@TheSuperSNES I played this game a long time ago on a (definitely legal) emulator and I think I completely missed that diary!
      I love when games add tiny details and hints like that; like it's definitely not plot relevant, but it kinda explains things.

    I like this but I wish you had items from capsule drops in the bestiary.

    • @TheSuperSNES
      @TheSuperSNES  3 роки тому +1

      Bahhh, yea I've been meaning to add those pages for awhile now, but I've been stuck on the maps. They're technically ready to go, but I feel like I could improve them/make them clearer, and reduce the filesize a bit. I should just do it and be done with it, and improve it later if I want to.
      FWIW, capsule drops are based on enemy *formation* and not the enemy itself, which is what makes it a bit more complicated to present. I'll try to get around to it sooner rather than later!

      @@TheSuperSNES Thank you, I have grinded so many of the monsters to get scraps in different places over the years. This game could really get lucky runs if someone wanted to grind attempts for days... I mean years! Thank you for the run and commentary.

  • @ekremsait
    @ekremsait 3 роки тому

    hey pj, how long a tas run would take on this route you created?

    • @TheSuperSNES
      @TheSuperSNES  3 роки тому +1

      Hard to answer, since a TAS would use a very different route. Certainly under 3 hours. Probably like 2:30. With this route and perfect luck, probably like 3:05 or something.

    • @ekremsait
      @ekremsait 3 роки тому

      @@TheSuperSNES What strategies would the tas go for? Would you be interested in helping a tas to be developed for this game?

    • @TheSuperSNES
      @TheSuperSNES  3 роки тому +2

      @@ekremsait A TAS would be neat in theory but I simply don't have the time or energy to work on a project that big right now. I've considered it for this game in the past, but had the same issue.
      The TAS would be able to manipulate blocks (not to be confused with dodges, when a "miss" shows up) since that is based on global frame count, and can force critical hits and misses/hits to some extent (the RNG is a lot more robust in battle than it is on the map). It can force rare drops early to basically solve the entirety of the equipment/money route (Mine has a 7500GP super rare drop, and one of the commanders has a super rare Punch 2 drop), it can force a 3 Shell encounter in the sewers and force crits on them to grab 90 experience and gain all the levels it'll be missing from not fighting battles. Stat distribution will be almost entirely power since they can force hits, crits, and dodges again bosses. They likely won't build a second robot since the first won't die.
      It would be kind of interesting to plan, but probably terrible to watch and actually create.
