    Hi. Loved the video. Wanted to ask. How is it working after two years? Are the gear racks still in one piece? Did you had to replace the solar panels or the batteries?

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  2 роки тому +3

      Please watch the 6 month follow-up video for how the opener has performed. The gear, tracks, solar panels, and original batteries are still working great.

    This is the most educational and well put together how-to video I have ever had the pleasure of viewing.
    Regardless of any negative comments please continue to make these amazing videos. It has helped me immensely, and gave me the confidence and understanding to tackle this project and make a great living doing it!
    Thank you so much sir!

      I definitely concur with Zachary on every point. When I use to work on aircraft, my coworkers would always compliment me on my canny ability to explain things in ways that were more understandable to them. We use to joke that understanding any system was 90% of the work. And by explaining the nuances of each part, sensor or switch, it gives the viewer the confidence needed to invest and tackle projects like these.By the way, what is your occupation? Are you an engineer, technical instructor or just technically inclined? Looking forward to checking out any other videos you may have made. Special thanks again for the detailed explanations!

    Great video thank you. I use liquid tape on connections unlike electric tape says on, but still easily removes. Even if I wrap the connection with tape, I paint the tape over with liquid tape to prevent the glue from loosening. I'm now looking at this gate opener for my back gate. Does it have any safety features to stop the motor if there’s a resistance. Thanks for uploading this video , there isn’t not many people in this category. I’m actually building from the ground up. From welding gates to pouring concrete making tracks. And I also thinking making my own gate opener using wheelchair motor and arduino but im don’t want to take the rish of gate accidents on kids so im looking one of these premade openers . Yours looks pefectt

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes. The unit comes with an internal adjustment for resistance. You can also purchase an IR beam (exactly like a garage door opener) that plugs directly into one of the green plugs. I have had one customer purchase this item from the same manufacturer but I could not get it to function properly.

    Great video. I'm having a problem with my unit only closing my gate about 1/4 of the way, then I hear a beep like it has reached the end of path. The magnets are in the correct places, many feet away from where the gate is now stopping. Any ideas here what I can do to resolve this? Thanks

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  4 роки тому +1

      Kyle according to the manual, the most likely cause is the magnets (N and S) are installed in the wrong order or the stall force potentiometer is set too sensitive.

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  4 роки тому +1

      If you are strictly solar/battery power like me it is possible your batteries aren’t delivering a minimum of 24 volts and 12AH which could cause the unit to stall and beep. I would make sure the batteries are fully charged and rated with enough amp hours.

    Sir, as I've commented earlier, one of the best instructional DIY videos I've seen yet, bar none. I have an unrelated question and realize that you don't represent Topens or their technical support. But I can gauge by your experience you have quite the technical background. If I were to elect on installing both an A/C powered system with a solar backup, is installation of a ground rod really necessary (as I've seen on some instructional guides) since we are routing a ground from the breaker panel? Or, in your opinion, is that overkill? Thanks in advance!

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  Рік тому

      If there is a significant run to the breaker box, I would ground the unit.

    Hi i was wondering how long you've had this gate opener for and if it still works well after a few years? It's considerably cheaper than a Liftmaster for example and seems too good to be true for the price. As well, it looks like you live in a warm climate....Do you think it would work in a cold climate as well?

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Mike. I have had the unit installed for six months with absolutely no issues other than the bottom bracket on the solar panels. Cold weather definitely has an impact on battery performance but, you are correct, I cannot speak to that here in Las Vegas. We only get to freezing temperatures for a few weeks (rarely below 32-30 degrees Fahrenheit). During that time we have had no performance issues.

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  2 роки тому

      I would make sure the gate rolls freely in manual mode and the tracks are not resting on the gear or binding at any point. I have noticed the self tapping screws which come with the track cause downward pressure when screwing them in. Adjust any spots like this by hand with a ratchet. Next I would unplug the power from the unit for a minute. I have noticed this will cause the opener to forget where the magnets are and it fully opens and closes to find them. This worked on a recent customer’s gate which was having the same problem.

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  4 роки тому

      Ben if you are planning to have the gate open 50 times a day, you definitely need to hardwire it to AC voltage. You may be able to pair it with a NexxGarage or Chamberlain MyQ if you have a strong enough WiFi signal out at the gate. You may also want to consider the Liftmaster brand of gate opener which is much better suited for busy commercial use. They also employ MyQ technology and have a great app (the same as Chamberlain garage door openers).

    Great video, I bought this same set up and was wondering if you’ve had issues with the solar panel controller? Ive replaced 2 times already. What happens is it last about a week then the gate just wont open anymore, i dont know if i wired it wrong or what but i did it exactly how you did on the video

      I would look at the gauge and length of wiring, battery placement (never placed directly on concrete), ensure batteries meet the minimum amp hour rating, and any peripherals (such as a safety beam) which might be drawing power.

      House On the Mend thanks for the tips ill check these things out and see if it starts working again. It might be the length of the wiring or the safety beam drawing power

    Hey there! Great video, but need assistance again please. When I press my opener button, the gate typically opens the full length (to the next magnet), but when i try to close it, you never know where it is going to stop. Sometimes it goes all the way, but MOST of the time it stops either 5 feet from the end, or maybe 2 feet from the end, or maybe 6 inches from the end. It is so random, and I have to sit there and open and close the gate about 10 times sometimes to get it to finally close all the way. Any idea what this may be? Thanks!

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  3 роки тому

    I had a question. I am trying to get everything working. Did you wire the gate motor directly from the batteries or did you connect it from the controller module off the load part? I hooked it up to the load but the power light is just blinking and not staying steady. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

      Daley there is no mention of a blinking LED power light in the manual. I would check the solar controller to see if the batteries are fully charged and ensure the wiring connections are correct. Perhaps it is reading low voltage or reversed polarity.
