I want a glass roof which in the UK you can't have on any Ioniq 5, is that right, if so why ? Does the EV6 have it as standard or what model do you have to go up to ? Thanks.
Hyundai decided not to offer a glass roof just like Audi decided not to offer coloured interiors on the latest Audi model. They do it either because they don't think there is demand or because the factory can't meet the demand from other countries already. I have driven the GT-Line and GT-Line S in the video.
Thanks for the video. Gridserve is near me in Braintree essex. I have an EV6 GT-S on order with the local dealer but still waiting for a delivery date. Can I ask where these 2 cars came from? Also can you be more specific in why it's better than a Tesla?
These two cars are from the Kia UK press fleet. These cars have better range than the standard Model 3 and have faster charging technology, future charging capability to charge 62 miles in 5 minutes and V2L so they can power almost anything. Tesla makes good cars and they have lots of advanced technology but currently as things stand their cars don't have the kind of capabilities of the new generation EVs like the EV6.
Hi - great video :-) I've just tried this car today and I really like it. We will properly buy it, but two things; no wireless android auto/Apple carplay, and NO REAR WINDOW WIPER. In Denmark where it rains 80% of the time - WHY Kia. Other than that it's a great car.
Thanks! I agree about lack of wireless AA/CP - maybe Kia can offer it as an OTA update. I drive a saloon so I am used to no rear windscreen wiper and it too always rains here in the UK! You will get used to it and of course you have a 360 camera if you opt for the top trim.
In theory, the aerodynamics over the rear window will prevent dust and water build up, removing the need for a wiper. Of course, that only works when driving. If you're reversing out of a carpark while it has been raining you may have visibility issues. But as TitC said, you have a good reversing/360 camera and sensors to complement your vision.
9 mins into the video incorrectly states you need the GT Line S to get vehicle to load, not true, GT Line also has it which is the one I went for mainly because of that for camping trips
Got the car and love it great to drive and it’s a comfortable car as well, I have it as week now and still getting used to it, needs a few updates but grand so far.
Hi In the video it mentions that the GT Line S comes with vehicle to load but according to the kia website the GT Line also has vehicle to load. Can anyone confirm that the GT Line also has vehicle to load ? Thanks
I spent more time in the GT-Line than the S and the only thing I missed was the surround camera - these cars - just like I said in my IONIQ 5 video - are large so that ability see exactly where you are all around is very helpful.
Badly phrased sorry! What I meant is they don’t have full self driving capability which Tesla may eventually role out of beta. But they do steer and keep you in lane and slow down and break as you would expect.
@@TechInTheCar ok. Tesla does enter to exit enter the address and it'll take you to exit n then ask you to take over once exit is reached. Lane changing as well
It does in the USA - it won’t do all that in the UK and Europe and it costs extra too. Tesla does definitely lead the way in assistance driving but it is not just about that.
I know you said that the "S" has more power than the Golf R, but the Golf is some 500kg lighter which, pound for pound, makes it the more powerful of the two. It'll certainly leave the VE6 standing in a 0 to 60 and I won't mention top speed. It'll embarrass you. That being said. I'd still have the EV6 over a Golf R regardless of price. What'll the EV6 cost to refill from home for a full charge? Maybe £5 worth of electric? Definitely not the £60+ for the Golf you'd need at a petrol station.
I am not sure about that as the EV 6 has more torque and it is instant as its electric. I think side by side the GT S trim would beat a Golf R (maybe an idea for a video there) but agree on top speed as the EV 6 is limited to a much lower speed than the Golf R. You are also totally right about the fuel cost compared to electric charging!
@@TechInTheCar You have the idea for the video, so you should do it. Both 4WD if you get the EV6 "S". Both comparable in pricing for top of the range "R". Plus the benefits you get for driving the EV car. Tax and fuel.
That would be an interesting comparison. If you can make it happen, perhaps test multiple types of runs since different types of acceleration runs can have different impacts on a car. For instance, you could have standing start with launch control, standing start without launch control, rolling start 5kph, overtaking 50-70 & 100-120, etc
@@amperformance7998 Great minds think alike. I've said for ages that for _normal_ car drivers, a lot of these tests are pretty irrelevant. They should do _real life tests._ Being in the UK, they should do 30 to 50 mph, 40 to 60 mph and the test of a standing start but not using launch control. After all, who at a set of lights sets up launch control? There's a UA-cam site called carwow and they do a break test from 100 mph. No one in the UK will legally go above 70 mph. So that test is 100% useless.
Very good thanks, but there is an extra you did not mention, which is the heat pump, which at £900 extra will take a long time to get your money back, at least in most of the UK. I think it should have been standard.
I agree the Heat Pump is a must. I ran out of time with the car or I’d have gone into even more detail like in my IONIQ 5 video. But I hope it was helpful! Thanks.
I noticed the Daytime Running Lights (DLRs) flash/flicker when the headlights are on but don't when the headlights are off. Eg at 8:30 mark. Is this in real life or just picked up by video? If it's picked up by video, I gather it reflects the amount of power given to the DRL's depending on whether headlights are on or off.
It is the camera and not the lights; it happens because the frequency of the light is out of sync with the camera and it is a massive annoyance when it happens even when you have the anti-flicker setting on! The DRL do not flicker when you see the car and the headlights are one of my favourite parts of the car as they are heavily sculpted as is the rear C-pillars which I didn't video because of the horrible weather but they look awesome.
@@TechInTheCar Thanks. I can only assume the frequency changes when the headlights turn on or off. Speaking of headlights, I notice not many reviews do a drive at night to show how well and/or far the lights reach on normal and high beam.
All looks better until 4 years down the line they start calling back vehicles for battery module replacement due to fire hazard. Happened for GM, Hyundai. Only Tesla dodged it
Hyundai and Kia both have an amazing 7 year warranty but if you buy a car on finance you would swap it after 3/4 years. It unclear how the used market will be in a few years with these new cars.
Most people don’t buy that model - most go for a Model 3 and I think the EV6 is a better car than the Model 3 personally but it is down to personal choice.
From the outside it looks panoramic but I agree it isn’t quite from the inside however I’d argue that not many panoramic sunroofs are actually panoramic!
Better range, can charge other vehicles, faster charging, better ride and faster than every model except the performance in the base trim. Very good cars.
Better range at the entry model in the UK, faster charging, future proofed charging with 62 miles in 5 minutes, V2L charging so you can charge pretty much everything and more tech in the car (outside of the infotainment) in terms of HUD, AutoPark etc...
Actually interestingly Tesla have started allowing VW to use the super charger network in the Netherlands this week and the plan is to allow this across the whole network so it may not be limited to Tesla.
And who can afford this BEV? Senior executives with company cars? Champaign socialists? And of course the most important thing about a BEV is its horse power and 0-60.
This car starts at £40,945 and although that is lots of money it is comparable in this sector; also don't forget this car has minimum 300 miles range and can charge 62 miles in 5 minutes when 800V charging is available and for now can do 10-80% in 18 mins. It has more range and the quickest charge of any EV.
The trim options between Ioniq 5 and EV6 are very different. If you look a the 4WD Ioniq 5 you have to spec-up and pay for the options (Lane Assist, Vehicle to Load etc). Where as KIA have done it the right way. The top model is the top and it includes the options. Plus KIA have a great range of colour options. Hyundai are black, white, silver and loads of horrible matt colours that look the same.
It’s a Kia vehicle but commentator managed to mispronounce Hyundai multiple times. Hyundai rhymes with Sunday... two syllables... the y is not a vowel, pretend that it is a J.
You are right there of course about the pronunciation. We know what he means though, so not a problem. Oh, by the way. That should be ‘the’ commentator to say it correctly. Also not a problem though🙂
Just released the pricing in Canada for the Ionic...WHY would anyone pay $60,000 for ANY AWD Hyundai??? This is not a Tesla killer...Hyundai forgot that they are a value brand? What a fail!
This car is very premium and has more technology and better quality than a Tesla. It is more expensive than you would expect but maybe Kia are making a move into premium and away from the value side.
Just no comparison, Tesla's are poorly built, parts almost unattainable and service nonexistent and they look very dated now. Tesla won't be selling cars much longer.
I think that the faster charging, 800V future charging speed and the V2L place it in a different level to Tesla currently and that they need to catch up but I know there are people that love Tesla and will totally disagree but that's part of what make opinions exactly what they are.
The standard EV6 has more range than the standard Model 3 and I think you will find in real world testing when I in fact tested the M3 LR and a Kia e-Niro (video coming) the Kia won. And the software is different but it doesn't change the fact the EV6 is next generation EV technology and Tesla isn't there yet. This is not me saying Tesla doesn't make good cars just that I don't think they make the best anymore and I am objective and not biased.
@@TechInTheCar not biased, OMG, lol. Can't wait for your "test". VW loses over $10k on every ev they make. They do it either because they don't think there is demand or because the factory can't meet the demand from other countries already. I have driven the GT-Line and GT-Line S in the video.
Simply visit kia uk and you can see spec, gt s comes with the sunroof
Have you received a delivery date yet? I've ordered my GT Line S and I'm expecting 18 months delivery at a guess 🙁
I didn’t specifically mean you need that model to get V2L. It is available on all models as you say and are correct. Thank!
Smashing it Oliver - keep up the great work 👍🏽
Thanks!
My dream would be the GT but if I can get a hold of one it would Gt-Line S
Whichever one you have it’s a fantastic car that looks great and drives well. The GT-Line S has all the extra tech which I love.
Deposit down on the GT MODEL and will see it in January.
Good choice! Let me know what you think when you get it.
@@TechInTheCar will do
Got the car and love it great to drive and it’s a comfortable car as well, I have it as week now and still getting used to it, needs a few updates but grand so far.
Hi
In the video it mentions that the GT Line S comes with vehicle to load but according to the kia website the GT Line also has vehicle to load.
Can anyone confirm that the GT Line also has vehicle to load ?
Thanks
Those models have V2L. I wasn’t clear.
@@TechInTheCar actually the base model Air does not have it.
is there a leather seat version ?
No. It is all sustainable materials but the interior is super nice even without leather!
GT-Line would be enough for me.
I spent more time in the GT-Line than the S and the only thing I missed was the surround camera - these cars - just like I said in my IONIQ 5 video - are large so that ability see exactly where you are all around is very helpful.
Electric car super 👌👍😍 future
I agree. It is!
do they have self driving capabilities like Tesla such as self navigate?
They have advanced driver assistance functions like Tesla but they can't navigate without input.
@@TechInTheCar what you mean without input?
You are right! I will see what I can do.
They should do _real life tests._
Being in the UK, they should do 30 to 50 mph, 40 to 60 mph and the test of a standing start but not using launch control.
Thanks.
It IS standard in Korea. I'm surprised it isn't in UK.
I have to ask, but I don't think the heat pump is offered at all in Australia...
What’s the cost pls
It starts at £40.945 in the UK for the Air spec.
Still has stupid touchscreen buttons for things that really need tactile feedback.
The multi-mode display is very cool and you will like it if you try it out.
@@TechInTheCar I will not.
It is very hard to film at night and make it clear but I take on board that feedback and I’ll see if I can add that to my videos.
If it does happen though which we don't know for sure if it will, they will replace it for free
I watched this entire video and I didn't see one reason why the EV6 is better than a Tesla, not one.
Watch it again then 😂
800 v charging
@@TechInTheCar - Why, Tesla is far better car than Kia....you must not be able to afford the Model S Plaid so you need to compromise.
Most people don’t buy that model - most go for a Model 3 and I think the EV6 is a better car than the Model 3 personally but it is down to personal choice.
better looking interior? yes? Better range, better efficiency? No!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully I can range test a Tesla and am EV6 to compare soon.
so no front wheel drive? how dumb.
guess korea doesn't know about snow in many countries
It is either rear wheel drive or all wheel drive; so if you need the extra grip you should chose the AWD.
It’s really not a panoramic sunroof ! More like just a glass sunroof.
From the outside it looks panoramic but I agree it isn’t quite from the inside however I’d argue that not many panoramic sunroofs are actually panoramic!
That’s a fair point but my understanding of Panoramic is a full glass roof. Or Two separate ones with the front opening and sliding
I agree. My current car has a panoramic sunroof and it definitely isn't that! but there are plenty of EVs with full glass roofs out there.
How many times does he say "really". Quite a lot really.
Really often? 😄
I was just going to leave a comment but thought id check first, its "really really" noticeable :)
So why is it better then a Tesla ?
Better range, can charge other vehicles, faster charging, better ride and faster than every model except the performance in the base trim. Very good cars.
Better fitting panels. Enough said
That too!
It isn't
Physical controls instead of dumb tablet controlling everything.. styling... Ride is terrible in Tesla... There's a long list...
You didn't tell us !!
Better range at the entry model in the UK, faster charging, future proofed charging with 62 miles in 5 minutes, V2L charging so you can charge pretty much everything and more tech in the car (outside of the infotainment) in terms of HUD, AutoPark etc...
@@TechInTheCar fun times
Yes it is a fantastic car!
Great car, still very expensive.
I think that for what you get it is value but it is definitely more pricy than previous Kia models.
I want
Me too!
Hyundai supercharging network ? no, best buy a Tesla....
I agree! you are correct that Kia have made it a lot easier to spec the EV6 and more straightforward.
It’s a Kia vehicle but commentator managed to mispronounce Hyundai multiple times. Hyundai rhymes with Sunday... two syllables... the y is not a vowel, pretend that it is a J.
Sorry! I will make sure next time I say it correctly.
Most Australians and the English pronounce it with three syllabus.
I want to pronounce everything correctly of course but you say things the way your used to by habit which isn't always correct.
Gino look at a price of top line Highlander Hybrid or Honda Pilot. The whole world went fecking nuts.
Just no comparison, Tesla's are poorly built, parts almost unattainable and service nonexistent and they look very dated now. Tesla won't be selling cars much longer.
Tesla hype is over
Kia hype is starting… but Tesla make fantastic cars but we have good competition now.
eSoul
I am going to ask for one of those as well to make a video.
It is a really nice car but Tesla is just another level.
I think that the faster charging, 800V future charging speed and the V2L place it in a different level to Tesla currently and that they need to catch up but I know there are people that love Tesla and will totally disagree but that's part of what make opinions exactly what they are.
Do Tesla offer a 7 year warranty?
And the 7 year KIA warranty! I am guilty of forgetting this every-time! It is a fantastic benefit of buying this car.
Tesla is way behind it's new competition... You have to be drinking the fan boy Kool aid...
@@TechInTheCar where are these 800v chargers in the uk the tesla updates itself and has a supercharger network not an opinion it's a fact
LOL, better than a Tesla, NOT
More range, faster charging, future proofed for even faster charging, able to charge other cars. This EV is the next generation.
@@TechInTheCar less range, should report this for "misleading spam". Software suks,
The standard EV6 has more range than the standard Model 3 and I think you will find in real world testing when I in fact tested the M3 LR and a Kia e-Niro (video coming) the Kia won.
On performance, ( do a vid on the shitty charging network or lack of working chargers for you European crap car.). That alone is enough NOT to buy a VW. Open your eyes, what is VW paying you for this misinformation? Lol
@@TechInTheCar Tesla doesn't even sell standard range in USA. Why didn't Gertz buy ID4's? Because VW can't make them at scale and lose $$$ on each one they sell and charging network not working or unavailable totally. That's why there are these ev s sitting unsold while Tesla is a 4 month wait. Enjoy your junk.
Great video! But why don't you make a video with the difference in acceleration between the rwd and awd kia ev6 next to each other? That would be really nice to see the difference! 😊
Great suggestion. We did test this and I can tell you that the S was about a second faster and left the GT-line for dead. This is because of the AWD and more horsepower and torque. Unfortunately we couldn’t film it as when we did it wasn’t filmed and we ran out of time to do it again and film it. But I will see what I can do to get the cars again. Thanks.
@@TechInTheCar thank you so much, that would be so awesome to see! No one did it before, i'm really interested because it could be my next car 😊
No problem but I can guarantee it as it is up to Kia.
Who does really care about acceleration? I mean it is relevant when you hold a traffic light drag race, but else?
@@hpaterek that's your opinion, i want to see the difference ok 😉
