A lot of your complaints, like the auto tailgate and the beeeeeeeep are due to long-time Kia things. The beeeeeeep meant that you had the key fob (or the second key fob) inside the vehicle when you got out and opened the trunk. Kia has done that for decades. The auto-trunk open is also a long time Kia feature. If you just keep walking, it won’t open. You have to be detected by the back for 3 seconds before it activates. All of this is detailed in the manual. I don’t discount that it’s odd if you don’t know about it, but it seems that a lot of the quizzical items are easy to understand if you had read the manual. Still, thanks for bringing them up. I think the criticism is valid and needed. As a 5 time Kia owner, these things don’t bug me but I can understand how they could be obnoxious.
The reason it has 3 levels for auto climate is simple. Sometimes, putting auto in its full make fan blow too strong and some people hate it due to the noise and strong air stream. So putting auto in its lowest setting, it will slowly get to desired temperature, but with less noise and not so strong wind.
i’ve got 5 levels on my auto mode and tend to kick it up to 4 during summer/winter and back down to 3 during fall/spring. i don’t mind these kind of features at all 🤷🏼♂️
Agree with this. In my current vehicle if I put it in auto the fans will ramp up to the point it’s overwhelming amount of wind and noise. Because of that I keep it in manual mode and adjust the fan speed myself.
It also uses a lot more battery if it's on 3rd level. If I'm going for a 5-10 minute drive in 100 degree weather, I don't need my internal temperatures dropped down immediately all the way down to 60
Great video. We have ordered an EV6 and it arrived at Immingham port about a week ago. We are currently waiting while Kia inspects all of the cars that rolled off the vehicle carrier to check them all for the heater issue so that they can fix them. Apparently it doesn’t affect all cars but they are checking them all anyway.
Drove with Tesla for three years and had many difficulties every month, I switched to the Kia EV6 GT-Line! Now I am satisfied ! Now I am a very happy man !
Yes bro.. I read online many Tesla drivers was hammered with software issues which primarily affected the car , its good you highlighted that tesla cars are not all easy to maintain.
Yeah, I own a tesla, I’ve had my ups and downs but never that bad, they are quite easy to maintain, really just depends on the type of environment and person you are, I live in a dusty desert environment in Australia and temps reach over 40C degrees, but still no problems. But yeah, I like the design of the Kia.
Thanks, a very fair and accurate review, I have the identical model even the same colour. I have had no software bugs yet, but they will be resolved. Yes the roofline would be a challenge over 6 ft tall. You can fit the charge cable, or the granny in the front compartment, but it is a bit small, however most cars do not even have this space. Range for me is about 230-240 in December. The bag with the V2L is now safely stored in my garage, I will use it, but take it with me when planned.Storm Arwen it would have been a blessing. Thanks again, fair review, and for me ,it is the best car I have ever owned, and, I have owned Jags, Range Rovers etc.
I got my EV6 in the end of January and no of those issues has been fixed (and I have many more). While having serious discussions with KIA I am feeling like a beta-tester and I don't think this is as cool as many others think that driving EV's implicate updates all the time. No, I am sorry but there are so many issues that I - right now at least - wouldn't lease any more KIA after my contract is finished in 3 years. I am sincerely disappointed and quite chocked about all the functional issues.
If you put the back seats down to sleep in the car, you can take out the headrests from front seats, turn them 180°, and put back in, they act as pillows
Agree with other viewers - you and your channel provide realistic real-world assessments and advice when it comes to EV and needs more exposure. You do more for the EV world than any other channel/publication/programme in my opinion. I've ordered the EV6 - hopefully the issues can be sorted out with software/firmware.
Don’t feel bad calling out the issues, we need more videos like this so buyers are aware and as fully informed as possible before parting with the vast sums of money required to buy an EV. Our Ioniq (not a 5), is currently at the dealer as it has struggled to keep the 12v battery charged up during the 1st few slightly cold days we’ve had this winter. Bearing in mind it’s a car that’s been around for a while, there appears to still be some teething issues that need ironing out on EVs regardless of wether they are new to the market or established. It’s frustrating, but I’m happy I’m making the switch now.
Great review 👍🏻 No car is perfect - I bet most of the people complaining about EV’s lack of ‘fun & engagement’ are driving around in under powered, diesel euro boxes with a list of faults & issues longer than a rockstars hotel bar bill 😝
@@alexmn00183 They are just mad that they are more convenient than gas cars. The option to charge at home, electric cost is cheaper than gas. No oil changes and way waaayy less moving parts to figure out the problem for a technician.
I was told that no one would walk that close to the open charge port when it’s open and not to be so stupid to suggest it. Good to see that you have the same thought. :)
Great in-depth video. Glad I went for the cheaper GT Line now...has a manual boot and larger frunk for the cables, and more headroom because no sunroof. Also no HUD, which i didn't like on the test drive because the surrounding box reflected in the windscreen. And smaller wheels giving a more comfortable ride and better range.
@Jesse Rice, totally agree about the HUD! Awful and very distracting but you can turn it off permanently. I got the dealer to turn it off during the test drive!!
Every new EV in the market has some teething issues and every driver can point out few on each model and the EV6 is not an exception. I have been driving my EV6 GT Line S RWD last two weeks. This does not have the heat pump. I did not experience any issue with temperature control, start/stop, locking and unlocking. I disabled smart tailgate opening. I drove mostly in eco mode in the town and normal on A roads and motor ways. Few times I tempted the sport mode just for fun. The average economy is modest at 3.4 miles/kWh. Last weekend I drove just in Eco mode around London area and part of M3 about 76 miles. The economy was over 4 miles/kWh in that trip. I always kept regen in Auto mode. The seats are comfy. I expanded the boot space by removing the upper deck cover. The reviewer pointed the charge port flap extends out. This is an annoying design but most EVs have similar issue. An ID.4 owner reported that the flap broke and costed him 400 euro to replace. I hope there will be smarter design in future like sliding door. I have not used any public charger yet. I am using off-peak home charging costing 5p/kWh. So far I am happy with my EV6.
Agreed they should fix the flap design. I don't think they'd even need a sliding door, though that would be cool. The main thing is just that the attach point (the hinge) is too small, and being vertical means a lot of force can accidentally be applied (e.g. if someone walks by and catches their clothing, bag, whatever on the door). I think they could fix the hinge size issue just by hinging on the other side, since the door itself is roughly triangular. Even better, they could hinge on the top instead. That would allow for an even larger, stronger hinge, but also would be in a position where accidentally applied forces are much less likely to be a direction and of a magnitude that would damage the door.
I love having the door handles light up on my audi etron. They come in really handy when I'm stood next to it like a muppet trying to get in because the keyless entry has decided to mug me off. Then when I finally get into it to find the pre conditioning hasn't worked again. Not to worry though while I'm waiting for it to heat up I can select my favourite dab radio station to listen to after the infotainment works it's way through authorising all the licences after a few minutes. Quality german engineering vorsrung durchfall techniq.
Came across the same issue on the loaner we had - wife threw her coat on the back seat and when we got home after the night test drive she couldn't find the door handle. Spoiled I guess with the lit door handles on my XC90, her Mazda and the previous 3 cars we've had! Also - feels to me like the door handles open the wrong way - felt a bit flimsy
you can switch the auto boot opening off in the display system also the reason the car unlocks is because if you you walk away straight opposite the front door it will lock itself
6 foot one and no issue. I have the rear wheel drive GT Line an love it. The twin motor has a disconnect on the front motor, brilliant idea to improve efficiency but I tend to drive in economy on the motorway so in the real world saved thousands of pounds and the rear wheel drive is quick enough at 7 seconds. The extra space in the front gives you the home for the cables. If you do not press the brake switching it on then you can't get it into gear, took me 10 mins to work this out and you have switch off and start again. Range around town October 340 mile range equivalent but motorway with heaters on your are 240miles. Lane assist I agree. One thing you missed and the only thing that annoys me is the windscreen wipers, the bonnet restricts them being lifted when scraping ice off the windscreen.
Great Review! These types of reviews where issues are identified help manufacturers to fix those issues and make cars safer and hassle free for future buyers.
Enjoyed the heck out of my test drive of the EV6 Wind as they call the mid trim level in the USA. Favorite feature is having both drive modes and regen adjustment on the steering wheel. I didn't get to try the auto regen which engages stronger regen when braking for a car in front but I was just clicking up a level or two manually when I wanted to slow down kind of like downshifting but works better - brilliant to put it there. And drive mode so easy to change and sport mode makes this thing so responsive and fun and yes its quick and then you can put it back to conserve energy without even looking. I like this car and plan on buying one and I am a Rivian EV pickup owner at the moment.
I love all your videos but I'm not seeing enough affordable EVs here, it's mostly premium or very expensive ones. It would be nice to see cars in the 20-30k range which would appeal to most people and see how it is to actually live with those long term from non biased owners.
Look at your state and federal ev rebate. Many brands still have 7500 federal rebate available. Some states provide additional savings on top of that. Even with just the federal rebate alone, these cars that start out in the low $40k, which is most of the evs out right now, can be had for low $30k.
Great review. I've ordered a GT Line in Red (the default colour that doesn't cost extra in Denmark). I am 6 ft 4 and have found that I can just about find a comfortable adjustment of the seat in the model with sunroof, which regretfully is bundled with headup display in our market (when ordering the GT-Line). We can order the sunroof option without the headup display, not the other way around - seems daft to me. But fair so say I can't have wear my pony tail in Gareth Bale style 😂 I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 'walk by/automatic opening the boot' can be switched off - the idea is that you can approach the back of the car with all your groceries and leave the key in the pocket. I've seen the heating system error reported by other reviewer and consulted my dealer, who confirmed Kia was aware - and I think there was a text in the video stating that a software update has since fixed the issue?
I've gone for the non-GT line to avoid the sunroof and get the HUD. I like the red colour! Do you have a delivery date? I'm still waiting to hear when mine will arrive (also in Denmark)
@@SimonRUA-camChannel Nope, no delivery date yet, guestimate is March-May 2022 (placed order mid November). Had a chat with my dealer first week of December and delivery estimate for new orders was now 9-14 months! Ouch!
I have one on order - it should arrive in February. It is my my first EV. Thanks for the review, it is the first vaguely negative things I have heard about it. I am really looking forward to getting in it.
With Auto Climate 1, 2 and 3 you choose how fast the fan is allowed to go (intervals), which is fine in an electric car where everything takes a hit on the range. Actually I could choose that too in my diesel car (noise), but only in the software. This is better. The alarms are probably because you step out of the car with the key on you while it’s running/on - so turn off the car or leave the key in the car or ignore it. And yes the heating issue has been fixed in an update. I only had the problem once though, but anyway great it’s fixed. The automatic tailgait opening by itself when you get near it and stay close for more than 3 seconds with your key in your pocket can be turned off in the software, if you don’t like it. 11:49 - If this happens and you can’t change gear then push the start button WITHOUT stepping on the brake - wait a few seconds - then step on the brake and push the start button again and now you can change gear and drive. It’s a feature that let’s you have the heater on and more plus you can turn off the lights without having the car fully on (nice when charging during the winter). It’s between “On” and “Accessory Mode”. I agree with the charging gate being very vulnerable. You need to have a look in the manual m8 :). I know all this just by having the car for one week. But yes - the car is pretty advanced and there’s a lot to learn, but personally I love that. Nearly everything can be personalized.
After 1 month with Ioniq 5, never had one of these issues. Small bugs and sometimes a bit of lag at the infotainment system on start-up, but after a couple of seconds it's how it should be.
Nice review, like the relax way you explain everything. I got exactly the same one (with the steering on the right-left side ;P) delivered to me next week, can't wait to have some fun with it. Cheers from the Netherlands.
I test drove a 226bhp model last week , loved it , I thought the same about the charging flap and although there’s a few issue , head height being one (going for a non sunroof model) I’m still going to go for it , my current car - egolf has been great but against newer EVs feels prehistoric
Well I managed to snap the filler flap on our Merc C250d off. Bloody expensive at £160, except we never got billed 😂 The cost is mainly due the paint then lacquer which is needed on a Merc.
Really useful review, way more help than the all the rest out there. When I did my test drive I also found it bizarre that you can code your seat position to your key but if you change the lane assist and other settings you need to do this manually every time. Particularly strange given one of the features they highlight is the vast amount of customisation you can do in the settings screens. and initially that looks great until you realise you have to go through the entire process every time you jump in the car. And very much looking forward to delivery of mine but as you point out for a car at this price point it would be nice to have a few of these niggles ironed out.
this is not true. yes you can program the seat memory on two buttons (at door). but the driver's memory is carried out in the settings, it is possible to program 2 drivers in the car. I own this car with my wife. each of us has our own personal user settings. and I just turned off this assistant in my sittings. all I have to do when I get into the car is choose the driver (myself) accordingly. car return back my personal options ambient light, music performance, mirrors and etc. therefore, your claim is your own carelessness and ignorance in this question
I was looking up the web to see if I was the only one affected by the heating issue (which I noted while driving the car home from the dealer!). I took it back to Kia who assure me the software has been updated. Would be nice if we could update things ourselves, online.
I found that the door handles pop out the wrong way. Your hand falls off when opening the door as compared to the Model 3 handle where it doesn’t. The auto presenting handles does make it easier for new users to work out how to get in though. The heated seat controls are far too easy to accidentally turn on, and the phone charger isn’t much use as you have to use a cable to get apple car play/android auto.
Winter time in Norway is a different story. Door handles freezes and lots of water/condensation inside the wind screen. But I agree it is a brilliant car!
I have an automatic tailgate on my 2017 Sportage with the same automatic response when you walk past the trunk. you must shut it off if you don't like it :) or need it. I love your reviews. Thank you
trunk is provided by programming this function also speed opening; "size opening", you can disable this feature in system settings with a simple push of button, and then your trunk will not open automatically. also if you want to open door without using key fob, you need to press the sensor in door handle (small square), then the machine will open and close manually. also in the settings, the functions of recognizing the key next to the car are available, while the car will automatically unlock the doors when approaching. So you need study the issue in detail and don't mislead people 🤔
about "cross line" assistant this is not true also. yes you can program the seat memory on two buttons (at door). but the driver's memory is carried out in the settings, it is possible to program 2 drivers in the car.
I purchased an EV6 AWD and love it. At 98 miles the AC went on and off, not sure why waiting on an answer from Kia dealer. ? inverter from what I am reading, if I turn the car on and off it comes back on. The mechanic at Kia witnessed it and contacted tech to discuss with other Kia mechanics worldwide
EDIT: 18/12/21 - A very fair assessment. My RWD GT Line S HP has a bigger frunk/froot so the trickle charge bag fits in there nicely. I haven’t had any issues with the heating on mine, I like it cold though and got used to just using the heated seat and steering wheel in my Niro for keeping warn. I do have the issue with the key not being recognised and the car alarm going off when the boot is open and also the gears not selecting. No issues with the auto unlocking features though, if you read the manual you can see where the detection zones are and I think you can turn off the automatic boot opening option. Tesla destination chargers definitely don’t work with the EV6. Newer "white flag" Tesla destination chargers have been rumoured to work though and the KIA charge app/RFID card works with most public chargers. The lane keeping assist isn’t always active on my EV6. It’s definitely active when using the adaptive cruise control but can be turned off and on via the steering wheel buttons. Not having wireless Android auto / Apple car play and not having widescreen support is a massive let down in a £50k+ 2021 vehicle. Hopefully, the widescreen issue will be fixed with software updates but, KIA have already confirmed it will never have wireless android auto / car play. I have an AAWireless dongle fir wireless Android auto. I have an issue with the drivers side heated mirror not working on my EV6. I can't see anything out of it so that's got to go back to the garage. The lack of a rear windscreen wiper was a really bad choice. Yes, the aerodynamics clears the glass above 50Mph but, in the city, where you need it the most I can't see anything. And the camera position isn't great as it gets dirty so you really have no way of seeing what's behind you. The least KIA could do is to have installed some kind of water repellent technology in the glass of provided us with a lifetime supply of RainX or something.
@William Hancock - I'd be very interested in your real world comparison of the Niro and EV6, currently weighing up the head decision of an e-Niro (4+) to the heart (and wallet emptying) decision of an EV6 (GT Line). How do they compare?
@@bobbobman767 My Niro 4 hybrid was always going to be a steppingstone to a KIA full electric, be it another Niro or newer model. My experience of the Niro 4 hybrid was that it was very capable and had a lovely interior however, living in Sheffield, UK (the most geographically diverse city in England) it was difficult to achieve any significant reduction in fuel consumption. I wouldn't recommend a hybrid to anyone living in Sheffield due to the torque required to propel the vehicle up the many hills. A PHEV would perhaps be capable of propelling the vehicle up the hills but, my Niro hybrid would call for combustion engine power at the slightest incline. The lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control worked a treat and the infotainment system was adequate, if lagging a little behind in terms of map updates, which could only be done at the dealership as apposed to the EV6 which can be done via a USB stick. In its current format I wouldn't want another Niro however, the newer My2021 e-Niro 4+ looks to have improvements in the infotainment, connectivity (UVO Connect), Active Safety & Driving Dynamics. It now has Lane Follow Assist instead of the old Land Keep Assist and looks to have a new instrument cluster and 10.25" touchscreen. If money's not a problem I'd say the EV6 is a no brainer but, if money is a factor then the My2021 e-Niro 4+ looks looks like a solid choice.
This video was very helpfull. I also got the GT-Line for one week now and had no difficulties till now. The only 2 things that i dont like is that Lane assist that keeps coming back and the door that dont open every time you need it to open automatically
Test drove this a while ago. Headroom was a deal breaker for me. LKA is same as I5 have to turn it off every time. From your observations it seems you are paying for tech which can be a little temperamental. Great reviews thanks
Was considering one of these when my Model 3 lease is up but there seems to be far many issues that I think would do my head in. Shame as I really wanted to like this car. The looks and styling of it are on point.
Great design and the road tests love it but the “living with” issues sound really irritating. Hopefully, all software but it annoying when the OEM final testing is done by the customers!
A lot of those issues (other than charging flap) sound like software issues that could be quickly fixed - I am sure there is a whole bunch of software engineers in Seoul working 18 hours a day to get them fixed.
Good review. The thing that bothers me the most is that the "Autohold" function is always off and has to be turned on EVERY time you start driving, Such a simple thing to fix on software level but EXTREMELY annoying in daily use.
The power lift gate can also be set for short people like my wife. You pull it down to where you like it and hold the power lift gate button to set it.
Test driven it, found the suspension very stiff in comparison to the other EVs which makes the ride very jittery, also the driver seating position is rather high for my liking, you don’t get the sporty feel position.
EV6 is a far better upgrade to TESLA with quality build, tech, android auto, physical buttons, heads up display it is no comparison to cheap Tesla. Car dealers make good mardings on TESLAs so they try to promote them. There is no need Kia models with sales
Cheers for this, got one on order. Decent that some of these issues have been addressed (pending testing?) via software updates. Think your channel and real world approach is brilliant!
Wireless CarPlay would be great, but actually if you have a front and rear dashcam it often means that you can’t have wireless CarPlay and the rear dashcam. Kind of annoying that with all of the cameras on these new cars and they don’t have a built in dashcam.
Thanks for the video, good review on the everyday things which I don’t hear much from other reviews, and in the end of the day that’s what make a good car ( little things ) of the everyday use😎
That's a very good point. At 1900mm wide (or was it 1890? Anyway close enough). It's quite wide but the body lines are hiding it well. Can't hide it on the road though and especially in a puny tiny UK parking spaces. Just 250mm left on each side of lucky. Get a rooftop to be able to access it...
It's interesting how similar this is to my Niro EV 4. Some of the niggles you mentioned can be switch off (i.e. auto boot opening, audio on startup, etc;.) The Lane Assist is very annoying, I'm 100% with you on this, why can't I switch it off once and that's it, I actually think it's quite dangerous on country roads as it wants to steer the car when I don't want it to, not great and it can not be switched off from the menu - why??? Anyway, just about everything you showed I have on my Niro, which is taller and more space (why I chose that over an EV6). You didn't mentioned the annoying aircon/audio switch button array, another very annoying design. Only downside is the disappointing charge speed, but I need fast charge once a month so not major issue for me.
Great video! It is a little disconcerting that you were able to find that many issues (all valid) in just a week of ownership. After a week, you'd expect to still be in the honeymoon phase and not the "she ain't perfect but she's my wife" stage already. I'm looking forward to hearing if the software updates fixed many of the issues you discovered.
It would be nice if software updates would be available for wife’s. 😂 But beside the jokes I heard it is able to charge extra fast and it’s a really good car however I don’t think it’s justify the price tag.
To use the summon ft, lock the car, and hold down the top button where you have your summon car controls and then it should start, then reverse or drive it forward.👍
Thanks for this great review RS! I look forward to seeing further 'niggles' reviews about this EV, which I'm very interested in getting. I totally agree with the charge port door, that's definitely a weak point. Agree with the lack of helpful illumination on the exterior. Those rear wing lights, what's the point of those? My £36K Peugeot E2008 GT has lights under the door mirrors which are fantastic at lighting up the ground below. It also has those front lights that light up when you turn left or right, so bloody useful, but this car doesn't! I'm almost talking myself out of buying one now, as more than likely EV6 2.0 will have all these features just after you splash out on EV6 1.0 😪
Fantastic real world review. Balanced and fair. As you say it's the first version and there will be niggles which hopefully the s/w update will correct them and features to be added later e.g. door handle light puddles Keep up the great balanced reviews. Really does help with decision making. Avid watcher. 🥳🤠
I used summon on my test drive - something to do with having to double press the lock (or unlock) button to prime it first? Fair review - quite a few of the niggles have either been resolved or are being resolved by updates so I am sure by the time I get mine in March or so (exact same model and colour) things will be smoothed out. Unfortunately as with any electronic items these days, early adopters are basically beta testers and cars are no exception. I don't mind the display graphics - yes they could be a little nicer but they are decent and once the novelty wears off they will be fine.
Thanks for a great video. I agree it is excellent car. I have the exact same car (in Sweden) and I can confirm most of your worries. Another thing that I think can affect the heating system is the winter mode. The car will prioritise heating the batteries and that will lead to less heat inside the car. Winter mode should only be used in low temperatures when planning to charge DC. In temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius you will still experience “cold lagging” before the charging speed increase. OTA shall be possible but I think the software is not activated yet.
@@siddharthchunduri659 this is actually on par with Tesla for sure! As far as practicality this is way better than any Tesla. I like both, but am leaning towards the EV6 just because it’s practical. The alignment errors, road noise, paint, and dumb giant screen don’t do it for me on the Tesla, plus no rebate in Tesla unfortunately
Nice review. Agree about the charge flap, that'll get twatted off pretty quickly. I really don't like this type of door handle and wonder if you'll have opening problems on a hard frosty morning 🤔 fantastic looking motor though!
Excellent video and I’m test driving one tomorrow. I’m really having 2nd thoughts though now and the lack of ota updates is a downer for sure. I may be keeping my model S after all 🤷♂️
Really great review. Just noticed this channel. Love the colour of this car. Thanks for an honest review as it is a beautiful designed car. One question I thought that Android Auto and Apple CarPlay where connected wirelessly but you said that it was connect by wire….is that correct?
Excellent overview, thank you. I test drove it last week and while I liked it, wasn’t thrilled or even excited at the possibility of buying one. Lots of little things and some larger issues like the rear seating area feels cheap and loaded with hard plastic, not impressive. I Instrument cluster feels dated to me, didn’t elicit any excitement, again. Per Forman email is fine, torque is fine, regen is fine, everything is, fine. Will I plant down the $60k (including dealer up charge)? No.
A possible solution to the charger door issue: Why not allow the door to flap around to be wrapped with a magnet on the inside that allows it to adhere to the fender on the side by the rear door area. Would certainly prevent an obvious future repair bill.
Thanks for the honest feedback on this car. It's refreshing to get negative comments on something you know exists that others simply aren't addressing (or haven't got the experience of because not had it long enough). I've not got my order yet (due in March 2022) but heard about most of the issues on the Facebook group and forums. I real value you're videos. Picking up a Tesla Model 3 in 3 days and we'll see if I keep it instead of the EV6. Shame you're not local to me, I'd bring the M3 for all the PPF etc and dash work I want doing.
I have a 2021 Kia Telluride, pre badge change. Anywho I've noticed consistent amount of real STUPID software bugs. Either their programmers are doing their own testing ( which is a big No No in the tech industry) or their software testers are idiots and can't test for shit, that's my professional opinion. I've found a number of issues with their software that I find troublesome because they shouldn't have been missed. I'm a Software Middleware Quality Assurance test engineer and some of the bugs are absolutely pathetic. In general there are no issues while driving or issues with sensors that work while driving. This EV looks great!
We still don't have these in the U.S. sadly. Kia fell behind anticipated delivery start date. I really like this Yacht Blue color. I've recently been a red car convert so all of my cars have to be RED but I kind of think that, other than maybe Aurora Black Pearl, the EV6 wears this paint better than all of the other options based on what I've seen in reviews so far! Might have to order this one, when dealers let us.
Nice honest review. I live in Quebec, Canada, and when looking at those outside door handles, and that charging port door, I couldn't help but think what a nightmare those will be in winter, with ice buildup. I've got a Kia Stinger GT Limited (for now), and the retracting side mirrors when shutting down the car can be turned off in the wintertime, in order not to damage the motors or mechanism if ice and snow are present on them. But the door handles on this car will probably jam up at some point... And I agree with you that, when in the opened position, they're hooks waiting to be broken or to tear your coat pockets away... Anyway, thanks for sharing.
You are totally right! I live in Sweden (not that far north though so pretty normal winter climate nothing extreme) and there have been days where I couldn't open my damn KIA because they are frozen!! I had to get warm water to thaw it!! This is looking modern but it is not working. There are so many other issues that right now I would NOT renew my leasing contract with KIA in 3 years time. I am deeply disappointed and refusing to be a beta-tester...
I have had the 12v battery die on my twice in 2 days. After 2 years of ranger rover ownership with zero issues. I changed as I thought I was on borrowed time but so far really disappointed with this issue. Btw you can turn off the opening boot issue in the menu.
Great video btw. Just found your channel as I'm getting ready to purchase my first ev. In your opinion, which one would you recommend between Kia EV6 & Tesla MY, and why? Thanks.
Jaguar has the same sound system! And about some accessories… read the booklet first 😃😃😃! I had several test drives with this GT line. Excellent car, but I’m waiting for the introduction of the real GT!
Im 6'4 and I fit easily in this car.. with extra space. Just depends on seat orientation. Taller people lean back. So Seat all the way down... and leaned back at a greater degree. Real comfortable and lounge like especially with the auto drive-like feature... provided the lines are really good on the road.
Fair stuff, but the frunk space is definitely caused by this particular EV6 being a 4WD one. RWD models have 3x room in the frunk. Plenty for cables and accessories.
I totally agree
i’ve got 5 levels on my auto mode and tend to kick it up to 4 during summer/winter and back down to 3 during fall/spring. i don’t mind these kind of features at all 🤷🏼♂️
Agree with this. In my current vehicle if I put it in auto the fans will ramp up to the point it’s overwhelming amount of wind and noise. Because of that I keep it in manual mode and adjust the fan speed myself.
It also uses a lot more battery if it's on 3rd level. If I'm going for a 5-10 minute drive in 100 degree weather, I don't need my internal temperatures dropped down immediately all the way down to 60
I live in Albuquerque and I wish there was a frostbite setting 🤣
This channel deserves a lot more attention for the real world tests and comparisions! Thank you.
Agree they go that bit extra 👍👏👏👏 BBC

Hahah sarcasm I hope, now people can lay off Tesla and see legacy makers make even more funny bugs and issues for cheap cars at an inflated price
Perceived quality, not real quality
this add was brought to you by a Kia intern.

All the software issues I had with my EV6 was fixed by a software update today.

I love that a good portion of your complaints have been fixed via software updates. Speaks to the value of OTA software updates.
@@TheMkoester like what? We have had it for a month. Not a single issue…
Great review 👍🏻
No car is perfect - I bet most of the people complaining about EV’s lack of ‘fun & engagement’ are driving around in under powered, diesel euro boxes with a list of faults & issues longer than a rockstars hotel bar bill 😝
Most people complaining about EV's haven't driven one at all actually.
I miss being able to shift. I miss heal and toe shifting when taking a spirited drive.
I have a new mid engine corvette and a Model Y so the best of both worlds. The Y is the daily driver and grocery getter. Surprisingly fast.
@@alexmn00183 They are just mad that they are more convenient than gas cars. The option to charge at home, electric cost is cheaper than gas. No oil changes and way waaayy less moving parts to figure out the problem for a technician.
EV's have no 'engagement' whatsoever. It's instant power and torque, but then nothing - utterly devoid of emotion.
Brilliant review. I'm 99% sure I'm ordering one and am loving the honest detailed reviews. Thanks 👍
I love these owner reviews. The real dealbreakers don’t reveal themselves right away.
Did the same and totally agree.
@Jesse Rice, totally agree about the HUD! Awful and very distracting but you can turn it off permanently. I got the dealer to turn it off during the test drive!!
Crappy HUD is a deal killer for me. My other car has awesome HUD and I rely on it.
One note: the sunroof takes around 3-5cm of headroom. So more space without the sunroof. That's why I ordered mine without
Same here :)
Good to know thanks for the take.
Made my day this comment lol 😆 😂 🤣 😄
@Tesla Power sounds like your living the dream. You could out the child lock on the passanger door to buy yourself a few minutes more on exiting
Really great to get an in-depth review from someone with some real life experience with the car rather than just a test drive!
Except that a lot of his complaints are due to ignorance - not the fact it's a test car
There is an on off setting for the auto tailgate opening when you are close to it according to a UA-cam video I’ve seen.
you can switch the auto boot opening off in the display system also the reason the car unlocks is because if you you walk away straight opposite the front door it will lock itself
I now have a rwd version so will be trying that…
But hang on, you scrape the windscreen…? 😳
Why not preheat?
Great idea to have a disconnect on the front motor, best of both worlds!
You get much better range after it has just been recharged, battery warmer. Hopefully not an issue in warmer weather.
The button that says Heat is to send heat to the windscreen when the sensor thinks it is fogging up. It then sends heat up to clear the screen.
But fair so say I can't have wear my pony tail in Gareth Bale style 😂
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 'walk by/automatic opening the boot' can be switched off - the idea is that you can approach the back of the car with all your groceries and leave the key in the pocket.
Ouch!

Small niggles, but at least you don't have to check panel gaps and interior fitment, and paint finish.
THANK YOU for a diferent video about real life issues with this car. You have a million videos about the EV6 and not one addresses these details.
Dig a little deeper in the vehicle settings/ driver assistance settings. A lot of things you mentioned can be optioned on or off.
I was looking up the web to see if I was the only one affected by the heating issue (which I noted while driving the car home from the dealer!). I took it back to Kia who assure me the software has been updated. Would be nice if we could update things ourselves, online.
The car overheats?
I found that the door handles pop out the wrong way. Your hand falls off when opening the door as compared to the Model 3 handle where it doesn’t. The auto presenting handles does make it easier for new users to work out how to get in though.
The heated seat controls are far too easy to accidentally turn on, and the phone charger isn’t much use as you have to use a cable to get apple car play/android auto.
I like this type of reviews. More please 😊
One year on, would be good to see this car revisited.
They know the issue and yes the inverters need changing!
Excellent honest review. Please do lots more.
All those things would bug me too. Nice real world review. That LKA always on might be too much. Hope that’s fixed. Ready to buy a used one.
A REAL REVIEW!!!! Subscribed!!!
800 volt system is extremely advanced and expensive - wish u mentioned it. Tesla won't have that
Appreciate the honesty of this review , very insightful.
Another vid that confirms we did right buying a M3LR.
Thanks for the info, love your Chanel. 😊
Good review. The thing that bothers me the most is that the "Autohold" function is always off and has to be turned on EVERY time you start driving, Such a simple thing to fix on software level but EXTREMELY annoying in daily use.
agree!
Think your channel and real world approach is brilliant!
really enjoyed your overview of the car and the likes and dislikes. great to hear.
Fantastic, finally a review who doesn't repeat what everyone else repeats over and over and over.
Very good user experience review! The trunk and charging port are really well addressed.
Great review love your honesty looking forward to your test drive.
Good, thorough review. No mention of just how wide the car is, which makes it a challenge for UK garages and parking spaces.
Can you put Netflix and prime like Tesla on screen when is in charge I love it?
It's interesting how similar this is to my Niro EV 4. Some of the niggles you mentioned can be switch off (i.e. auto boot opening, audio on startup, etc;.)
The Lane Assist is very annoying, I'm 100% with you on this, why can't I switch it off once and that's it, I actually think it's quite dangerous on country roads as it wants to steer the car when I don't want it to, not great and it can not be switched off from the menu - why???
But beside the jokes I heard it is able to charge extra fast and it’s a really good car however I don’t think it’s justify the price tag.
As you say it's the first version and there will be niggles which hopefully the s/w update will correct them and features to be added later e.g. door handle light puddles
Keep up the great balanced reviews.
What is niggles? Saying that in my country could get you killed.
Great video. Are you sure there is not room for a cable in the frunk?
🙂 Brilliant car Kia great review 👏
Thanks for a great video. I agree it is excellent car.
I have the exact same car (in Sweden) and I can confirm most of your worries. Another thing that I think can affect the heating system is the winter mode. The car will prioritise heating the batteries and that will lead to less heat inside the car. Winter mode should only be used in low temperatures when planning to charge DC. In temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius you will still experience “cold lagging” before the charging speed increase.
OTA shall be possible but I think the software is not activated yet.
One more thing, the sound system is really good but the subwoofer could be deliver more bass.
I was waiting for Koreans to make cars like the EV6 and the Ioniq5, i don't like Tesla, so this will be my first EV .
Should try mache this junk doesn't hold a candle to a Tesla. Mache a good second .
@@siddharthchunduri659 tell me you're biased, without telling me you're biased
@@siddharthchunduri659 not unless you’re comparing build quality, paint quality, panel alignment, length of warranty, cost of ownership, etc, etc, etc…
Good in depth review. First gen always have bunch of issues to fix. Remember the first model S list of problems...🤷♂️
Excellent video and I’m test driving one tomorrow. I’m really having 2nd thoughts though now and the lack of ota updates is a downer for sure. I may be keeping my model S after all 🤷♂️
Bjorn Nyland absolutely loves the quality of the Meridian stereo sound system. Calls it top notch 9,5/10 and tests it thoroughly.
Really great review. Just noticed this channel. Love the colour of this car. Thanks for an honest review as it is a beautiful designed car. One question I thought that Android Auto and Apple CarPlay where connected wirelessly but you said that it was connect by wire….is that correct?
Thank you for an honest review of this car. I plan to buy one very soon.
I appreciate your honesty.
Excellent overview, thank you. I test drove it last week and while I liked it, wasn’t thrilled or even excited at the possibility of buying one. Lots of little things and some larger issues like the rear seating area feels cheap and loaded with hard plastic, not impressive. I
Instrument cluster feels dated to me, didn’t elicit any excitement, again.
Would love a follow up in a month. Americans should be getting the first edition starting in Feb!
Love your videos. Real-world credibility in bucket-loads. Or should that read "car-loads"?
Honest review. Considering the price, there’s a few more niggles than there should be for +50k.
