I bet you will never forget this Birthday. HAPPY Birthday.. I'm glad we got Soto but I just hope it doesn't create another Baseball Strike because of salary cap issues
Would be great if the Mets could bring back Manaea and have him pitch the way he did last year. But after this, you never know. Maybe they’re eyeing Burnes/Fried too!
To put contract in perspective, Mets paid 80+mil for Verlander and Scherzer and didn’t get much from it - low WAR, didn’t sell tickets. Soto 51mil with greater WAR and he will sell tickets. It is a no brainer in terms of value. That’s why multiple teams were offering similar AAV.
@jamesbuckley8917 my psycologist, says its borderline personality disorder and schizophrenic tendencies with violent outbursts. what did you say your address was again?
To your point, I was 100% counting on this to fall through. Still scarred from A-Rod FA signing in 2000 with Texas and later trade to Yanks in 2004 - Mets were heavily favored landing spots in both situations.
It wasn't $$...NYY reportedly were @ $760 mil for 16 yrs...1) The REAL reason - It was that Judge was/is better, especially in 2024 when Judge WAY outplayed Soto in every offensive stat that matter & easily won the MVP...2) The NYY getting swept by the METS 4 games to ZERO did not help...3) Lindor & Soto struck up a friendship, especially during those Subway Series regular season games...4) The METS magical OMG season & Clubhouse camaraderie is attractive to any player, the METS enjoy themselves...5) The Cohen/Stearns/Mendoza commitment to the future, trust me the METS brain trust clued Juan Soto in to their specific plans, including the other free agent/trade targets they will acquire this off-season
Point #1 grinds my gears, but I can’t argue with that. However, Soto is will only be 2 years older for the ‘25 season than Judge was for his rookie year in 2016, and a full 6-7 years younger than Judge for the entirety of next season. Let’s see how the next 10 years play out. ✌🏽
Great, what's next? They will become a dynasty now? Not with this starting rotation. They need 2 aces to remain injury free. They need a better bench as well. Let's see what Cohen and Stearns pull out of their magic bag next. Happy Holidays everyone!
Copium much? The real reason is always money. I’m sure Soto saw how much fun it was the Mets were having and didn’t want the Yankees boot camp style of operation. Soto took the money that’s all it was.
Nimmo should hit in front of Soto cause he needs protection and to step up significantly. I’m hoping he goes back to a contact hitter, high OBP, high walks, etc…
Hi Ryan, the decision to go to the Mets I think also came down to the Mets having a brighter future, a team with a better farm system than the Yankees, and an owner with deep pockets looking to build a brand name as a sports business owner.
Jeff Passan alluded to that last night on SportsCenter. The Mets’ success has only just begun and they’ll have stability for years. Yankees fans have been calling for Steinbrenner/Cashman/Boone to be gone for years.
@LockedOnMets yeah there's a they have an old world mentality they kind of stuck in the mud when now there are new owners in the league and they have a different perspective on how to address these issues of getting players. And how they get things done now.
@@LockedOnMetsI know die hard Yankees fans that are in agony over Aaron Boone still managing the Yankees. He's a good character guy but he does make some head scratching decisions.
Looking at the payroll, even with $51M to Soto we are about $90M below last year ($238M now vs. $328M last year). Add either Pete or his short term replacement in the infield, a #2 starter like Manaea or Buehler, and a few bullpen pieces under $5M, and they should clock in around $285M, just about the same as the Dodgers and $40M under last year. Over the next 2 years, we can shed Marte and McNeil and replace them with the upcoming minor league class. It will be a stars and kids outfit at that point, maybe not signing any FA hitters for a while after this year, as you have LF, RF, SS, maybe 1B on high cost contracts, while 3B, C, 2B, CF are manned by some combo of Vientos, Alvarez, Jett, Ronny, Acuna and Gilbert. My only pause is if you sign Pete to a 5 or 6 year deal, you're really locking out Clifford from ever getting a shot with the team.
If this is the Mets lineup in 2025, with no pitching help past Montas and Holmes (as a starter, no less?!), they are in a lot of trouble. Pete or equivalent (hint: there is NO equivalent) is essential. Francisco Lindor, SS Juan Soto, RF Mark Vientos, 1B Brandon Nimmo, LF Starling Marte, DH Francisco Alvarez, C Jeff McNeil, 2B Tyrone Taylor, CF Brett Baty, 3B
@@rp5619toy If they could include him in a deal for Garrett Crochet that would be awesome. Of course, as soon as Baty leaves he'll find his stroke, but he's looking like a real AAAA prospect at this point, great in the minors but can't quite make the jump.
They could score ten and give up eleven. The name of the game is still pitching. The old adage is still good pitching stops good hitting. Does Cohen want to spend any more for pitching
I'm elated we got Soto. I'm also a realist. This leaves a bad taste in people's mouths so they give "extra reasons" for Soto coming to the Mets. He came here because Uncle Steve gave him the most money. If the A's give him 800mil, he's an Athletic.
Yes! Bring back Pete Alonzo unless the Mets are set on signing Vladdy next year or earlier. If that's the plan, then the Mets should sign Goldschmidt for 2 years. Whichever the plan, the Mets should not screw with Mark Vientos. Leave him at 3rd and let him continue to develop into the all-star that he is certain to become. LETS GO METS!!!!!!
Ok Cohen we need alot more if ws plan on besting the dodgers. We need 2 bonified starting pitchers. We need more bullpen arms, I think we should trade for Crotchet, sign Fried or Burnes. I like letting pete walk and trade for Vlad JR
i dont get it, we just paid a guy who hit .288 765 mil for 15 yrs. he hit .288 with 109 rbi. thats a good player but not 51 mil per for 15 yrs. i dont like it. would of rather gone in a different direction
A diff direction? Away from arguably the best hitter of this entire generation who hasn’t even hit his prime! Yes, this is a lot of resources dedicated to one player, but do you actually think the Mets are done spending to try and make this team better?
I think this is crazy to pay him that much what would he had paid ohtani 800 million. At least with ohtani u get an ace, pitcher, hitter, and steels bases. Soto not that good of defensive player Alonzo can do what Soto can do different is Soto younger.
It doesn’t matter. He wont make the Mets better. The Mets are stiffs and haven’t won anything since 86 some 40 years later. Mark my words. If the Mets by some miracle make it to the playoffs some team will walk all over them and easily defeat them.
Christmas has come early! Joy to the world, Soto has come!
God bless us, everyone!
Cubs fan here. Extremely happy for Mets fans and the organization. This is a HUGE deal.
This changes EVERYTHING, If you're not a METS fan, you don't understand
I'm not a Mets fan, but I definitely understand
I may not always agree with Ryan but I love the way you love the team - It makes me optimistic
Uncle Steve!!! We love you!!! 💙🧡
I agree 100% we need to bring back Pete Alonso
New York has the largest Dominican community outside of Santo Domingo. Soto felt comfortable here and it was always between the Mets and Yankees.
Amazing we signed Soto on my birthday !!!!!!
I bet you will never forget this Birthday. HAPPY Birthday.. I'm glad we got Soto but I just hope it doesn't create another Baseball Strike because of salary cap issues
Cubs fan here. Happy for you guys. Add a top line starter and the Mets will be elite in 2025

Here we go and let’s get pitching !!!!
We're not afterthoughts anymore? God bless us all, now. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last! TY Ryan. I am really happy for you.

Time to celebrate but that’s a lot of money! Now sign Pete and Manea
Christmas came early to all Met Fans everywhere
Unbelievable! Uncle Steve gets us the the best things. LFGM!!!
Still need Pete.
Steve Cohen comments during that interview made me a believer.
I really didn't think the Mets had a shot, but they got him, I really believe Lindor and Mendy were big reasons for him choosing the Mets.
Soto knows who the real NL MVP and MOY were in 2024.
Forty year mets fan this is huge for mets nation let’s gooo

Beautiful
Pete Pete Pete. Next signing please 🙏 💙🧡
10:04 that smile is everything
Let’s bring Pete and Sean back!!
Totally agree 👍
We need Pete !!!! The polar bear must remain a met for life
Sign Pete to a 6 year around $175 million. I think he'll go for that. Pumped about Soto, worried that Pete will wind up elsewhere.
I’m dreaming of a Juan Christmas. Oooh oooh oooh.
now let's sign pete and win 6 out of the next 10 world series
Delusional
@jamesbuckley8917 my psycologist, says its borderline personality disorder and schizophrenic tendencies with violent outbursts. what did you say your address was again?

Don’t sleep on Alvarez. I saw signs late last year that he figured something out.
Awesome 👍😎
Soto jersey loading…
Tell Ryan. Lets go Mets
Our team everyday
If Manaea and at least one more FA starter are signed, Mets are NL east favorites maybe even NL faves.
Soto - Lindor going to be epic partnership for the next 5 years. They didn’t overpay - Yankees offered basically the same $ and he chose the Mets.
We need Sean menea
Looking at the payroll, even with $51M to Soto we are about $90M below last year ($238M now vs. $328M last year). As Yankees fan. Let him walk. Not worth da Money facts. Don't care if the Mets win a Ring. It's about time. Facts
The Mets offered only 5 million more than the Yankees, I believe Soto didn't want to stay with the yanks, props to the yanks though
Waaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
I think the Mets going to get Vlad Dr this year or next year
Hopefully I'll get some Peter for Christmas!!!
This guy Steve Cohen, his filthy rich.
I think Mauricio is gonna be a STUD
I would love to keep Alonso, hopefully he comes back
What about Jesse Winker as DH?
Alonso next …………

Francisco Lindor, SS
Juan Soto, RF
Mark Vientos, 1B

We NYY fans figured this might well happen. The guy is total cringe playing RF and running the bases. But he would make an awesome full-time DH.
If they don't get Bladimir Guerrero, they still a no contender against Dodgers
I'd rather keep Alonso
So the siri singing was to compensate for soots defense
They could score ten and give up eleven. The name of the game is still pitching. The old adage is still good pitching stops good hitting. Does Cohen want to spend any more for pitching
Soto 15 year deal 765 million. LeBron AND Brady full career earnings $761 million
That's too much money, for a player, eventhough I wanted soto.
What about signing that 24 year old Japanese phenonom pitcher Roki!
They need to get more pitching and releivers
Mets MUST sign Pete Alonso now. Because teams will walk Soto without protection behind him then get some good pitching
I'm elated we got Soto. I'm also a realist. This leaves a bad taste in people's mouths so they give "extra reasons" for Soto coming to the Mets. He came here because Uncle Steve gave him the most money.

Nope - 5mil difference w/Yankees offer is nothing. Soto wants to win and Mets are a better bet on that future
Joc Peterson?

Good news but we need pitching 760 million that’s too much these players should only get thousands I’ll play for 300 thousand a year
maybe, watch the Yankees now go for Alonso at first base.
Bring back Alonso n pitching
Gonna be Pete at 1b or trade for Arenado to play 3b
Need to sign some pitching. Right now it's sparse. Sign Alonso.
Let's just hope the hedge fund business continues to flourish....😂 Did they put that signing bonus in a Christmas stocking???
Regardless 😅
Yankees & Mets will BOTH lose to the Dodgers 😢😮

Once he gets the go on that casino project that will pay for Sotos contract off in a couple years alone..
