I love your videos. You are very knowledgeable about all types of photography and video with a relatable lighter style. I have a request. Can you do a video about shooting slow motion video especially how 120fps works with a 24fps timeline? I just picked up the GH6 and 10-25mm lens to up my video and photo game. I'm hoping to get crisper cinematic shots to fill in action footage taken with my GoPro Hero10 and Insta360 One X2. Many, many thanks!
Hey Emily great video! I am looking at this camera as a wedding videographer, but I occasionaly shoot wedding photos, I know you shoot weddings; have you used this for photos at a wedding and were you happy with it? I love your channel by the way:)
Can you set the GH6 to display a image for so long after you take it. For example my Olympus OMD E-M5 after I take a photo it displays it for 0.5 seconds and on my Olympus OMD E-M1ii it is set my default for 0.3 seconds. You can change how long it a image displays in the settings. This feature I really like just as a safety net that if I'm shooting a wedding I don't mess up my settings. Canon was displaying images for like two seconds on some cameras that's way to long.
If the GH6 can keep up with the S5 for ISO, it's doing very well. I shot still life on the S5 at 4000 ISO yesterday, and there was only the faintest texture in the shadows. The main subject looked like base ISO from a camera of just a few years ago. Another factor is the GH5 is selling at half the GH6 price, and you get a 12-60 thrown in.
What would you recommend for a photo editor for the GH6 raw images? The one I usually use doesn't support it yet. So I'm looking for something that let's me edit the raw ones. Let me know what you use. Thanks.
I agree, if they either brought those features in as a firmware update or as a revamp of the G9... I'd definitely be happy. But doubly so if it were a photography centric version, as I absolutely ~loved~ the viewfinder on the G9. I also think it's a rather smart move to share the battery between the S5 and the GH6, as it looks like it provides a rather lovely grip but it means if you have both you can just pack one type of battery with you!
Despite all the temptations of FF. I’m sticking with m43. It’s light and small. I’m not professional but use my camera for work. Similar with me: my profession is not photography or videography bit I use my gear for work sometimes (university instructor). I would much rather have a revamped G90/95 with some improvements (most importantly now crop when shooting video and a longer battery life. The mid-sized MFT cameras are the sweet spot for me.
I was thinking the same for the G9 line. However, I think a few years down the line will see a firmware update that brings both the GH6 and the G9 revamp closer together in feature set.
Amazing photos! Have you tried any astrophotography with the GH6 yet? I understand it's not ideal, but the ones you got in your other video on micro 4/3 turned out great
I did a little bit this week in Sardinia, but the light pollution wasn’t great. Better than at home! But not great. I’m excited to edit the photos and have a pixel peep 😁 I reckon with the right lens and the right conditions it’ll be absolutely brilliant for astro
Thanks for your insights on the GH6. I'm considering buying one but trying to find out as much as I can about the camera before making a final decision. How is the viewfinder latency and shutter lag on this camera? Early mirrorless cameras such as the Fujifilm X-E1 were horrible in this regard. I like to photograph birds in flight and am wondering if the GH6 is up to it or will I need to still use my DSLR for that? Thanks.
Hi! I find the viewfinder really responsive. I wasn’t missing any shots when scoping out the birds. The focusing for photography especially is very snappy. I might recommend maybe hiring one for a day or two, or at least getting one in your hands in a shop, because I understand it’s a big decision! I have a bird hide day planned in a week or so, so I’ll make a dedicated video 😊
As you conclude, the GH6 has so many clues built-in/left out, that I'm sure there will be a G9 mkii coming along in the (not too distant??) future. And I'll be looking forward to it, especially if Panasonic keep to the superb body design of the G9, which is already unbeatable...imho
@@MicroFourNerds I just asked for live composite live view on GH6 to Sean at Lumix cameras live event of today he answered that is one of his favorite feature so he will push for add it to GH6
@@tankerbruja The GX8 isn't part of the line (at least not directly). That's the GX80/85. In Japan the GX80 and GX9 are called GX7MK2 and GX7MK3 respectively.
Perhaps another clue that a G9ii is coming is that the GH6 high-resolution mode is still limited to 1 sec max exposure: the S5 can manage 8 secs and has long-exposure noise reduction in this mode too. It is hard to imagine those benefits not coming to a Lumix M43 camera...I hope this isn't wishful thinking!
Question: I heard in one of the video reviews that the 100mp takes around 13 seconds to merge the images after shooting. Anyone know how long the 50mp option takes?
I have the G9 and love using it for video as well :), even tho I have the Sony A7III. I still grab for my G9, I'm hope'n to buy the GH6 with my tax return this year. But shhhhhhh don't tell the wife lol. I was wondering when you get sometime free, could you post some 4k@120 running the AF. As this is something I'd use a lot. That's the only thing that would tempt me into buying a Sony A7sIII. I'd rather stay with Lumix as I have invested in their glass, anyway thank you so much. Please keep the great content rolling in.
yes, waiting for a g9-2 with those missing features! I just really really really hope they leave 4k 120p, even if it is limited to 5 minutes or whatever :-) and at least one 4k unlimited recording mode, even if it is 420 (please 10 bit). HHHR is the other killing feature for me that almost made me bounce for the gh6.
I've got those same birds at my house in Michigan.US. UK defectors. Ha BTW. I received my new OM-1 a week ago. The only thing I'm jealous of is your hi res mode seems better. :)
It’s so annoying isn’t it?! I’ve never had a Day One camera take so long for Adobe to make compatible. In this video there’s a mixture of SilkyPix to TIFF converted files (when it doesn’t crash) and just lightly edited jpegs for the most part. I love this camera and I love lumix but Adobe have really put a dampener on this whole experience for me. I think it’s still a few weeks away as well.
@@MicroFourNerds right! I feel like they should of had all this worked out already before release! I’ll try converting to tiffs with silkypix again I guess. Your photos look amazing!
How recommendable is getting a GH6 for just stills photography? I barely use video right now, and this seems like a video camera firstly. However, the newer 25MP sensor is very nice, also has a USB-c slot (all the older Panasonic cameras dont, and so I would have to get different cables with me again, a hassle, all my current equipment uses USB-c so I literally only need one cable with me for all my gear), and it's simply the latest from Panasonic with tons of improvements, and from photo's I've seen online from the GH6 it looks amazing. The only downside is the weight, it's heavy at 800-something-grams. My other option would be getting the older Panasonic G9 (or GH5, but practically the same), or go Olympus (OM Systems) and get the OM-1 .. but that one is a lot more expensive. Honestly we need a new G9 .. mark 2 or something. But until then, is GH6 actually the best choice?
We DO need a new g9! It would be good for stills but probably overkill. The gx9 might be nice or the Olympus OM5 - phase detect af and a nice small body
The lumix 100-400mm 😊 all the images in this video are jpegs, or converted to TIFF and then edited, as Adobe products won’t open the gh6 raw files yet. It’s so annoying! It’s still a few weeks away as well.
The lack of 4K/6K Photo is a big deal. It means I cannot get rid of my G9. It is definitely time for a revamped G9. Love the low light capabilities of the GH6, however, and the 100Mp mode is brilliant for documenting artwork.
6:53 I can't understand what is going on in this photo. Is this a big glass on the street or a building. If it is a building then it should reflect the things behind the photo and ... 🤕
It is, there is a little delay. Its quite irritating. Also similar on the s5ii cameras. You can make it faster by using the fastest cards and also not relaying to both card slots, but yes, in my experience there is a delay
I shoot professionally with a gh6, fuji xh2, and sony a7iv (with xh2 being my regular go to camera)... admittedly more video with gh6 than photo...all have their strengths. I can't forsee 4/3 going away any time soon.
I'm having a lot of fun with the 100MP and the 100--400mm lens @ 400mm (its 100% doable and just crazy!) I'll be posting a video soon to talk about how great it is and what are some limites of the 100MP but its soo crazy to have such a usable feature in this camera!
I've been shooting with Sony for 2 years coming from a G9, but I'd be very tempted if Panasonic delivers a G10 with similar performance. Panasonic is just way more fun to use. And DxO does a great job in case I am shooting at very high ISO.
From my limited experience shooting the birds at my local park, the auto focus is absolutely amazing. Not only does a rectangle find the bird, but it also focuses on the eye in a heart beat and then sticks to that target like the proverbial on a shovel.
Am I the only one that does not care about these high resolution stuff? Ya, it makes it more detailed, but that detail does not matter unless you zoom in. Not something people do online as a 'final' imagine. I'd much rather do panorama and aim for stitching together a 'wide 50mm' perspective. Bring in the background to a more natural perspective while having the width you'd get from shooting at say 24mm. That 'zoom' I think will create more detailed images then these super resolution modes will, and will look better when you get the shot right.
100% GH6 for my needs as a hybrid shooter, as the video features are just incomparably better on the GH6. I can definitely see the benefit of the OM1 for mainly photographers it seems like a great camera in many ways!
I'm going to be overly optimistic and say that a G9 successor in the form of a smaller and lighter GH6 without fans and CF express is coming real soon!! Oh well, one can only wish ...
I have to agree, this camera takes excellent images and the focusing is close to Witchcraft especially aiming at birds in flight. At the weekend I had a play photographing a panorama of the Milky Way, Orion and the Zodiacal Light but came across one major problem. I don't have any software to stitch the images together. I tried Hugin but blew my tiny mind trying to get that to work. I may have aired on the side of caution too much by keeping my ISO to 400 in the hope of saving the shadows and rescuing in post production, but the night shots were very very noisey. Maybe I'll open up the ISO to crazy numbers and see what happens. On the whole, I love the photo capabilities of my GH6 and dare I say it, this camera may even be better than the OM-1. I've still got to get Silkypix to open even just one RAW file. It keeps crashing.
I feel your pain with SilkPix - I’ve given up entirely and just relying on jpegs for now! Everything in this video except the odd “pre production” photo is jpeg. I’m so mad at Adobe for this, I really begrudge paying every month if they can’t even keep on top of new cameras. And it isn’t exactly a small release is it? It’s a flagship! For astro I’d definitely push the iso - you’ll be pleasantly surprised I think, even with the gh5 it was necessary to push it to 1000 or so. I think the gh6 will cope much better 😊
@@MicroFourNerds I also use Adobe Lightroom however mine is a bit older than yours 5.7 to be precise. Even though its 9 years old, I don't pay a monthly subscription. The only concession for me, when I used my GH5 was to convert the RAW files to DNG files because the software did not support the new fandangled RAW files. I simply refuse to pay a monthly subscription for any software. I'm happy to pay a fee such as my Davinci Resolve Studio licence but no way am I going to get stung on a monthly model when I'm just a hobbyist. Next time I go out to play, I'll bump up the ISO to at least 1,000. There was one strange thing that I experienced on my night of capturing the Winter and Summer Milky Way and that was losing the ability to use Live View in the display screen. For some reason I had to wait at least ten seconds before the image changed on the screen. This made live focusing impossible. There were either two reasons, the first could be a bug, and the more plausible reason would be user stupidity. Something to watch out for when doing some Astro work. Giving my hatred of paying monthly for Lightroom or even Photoshop what would you suggest to create a panorama of a stack of images I took with my 7.5mm lens in portrait of the milky way? At least I've stopped using my Photoshop CS (2003) and am using GIMP now. 🤣

Lovely... But what do you mean by "the brand new sensor size"..?! Isn't it the usual M43?
Not size. Brand new sensor - it’s a new sensor which is 25mp 😊
I was thinking the same for the G9 line. However, I think a few years down the line will see a firmware update that brings both the GH6 and the G9 revamp closer together in feature set.
I couldn't agree more. M43 isn't leaving the market
Is barrel compression the same thing as lens compression?
Yes I meant lens compression sorry 😊
Hoping for the g9 successor too!
@@MicroFourNerds...thanks, I look forward to seeing it.
As you conclude, the GH6 has so many clues built-in/left out, that I'm sure there will be a G9 mkii coming along in the (not too distant??) future. And I'll be looking forward to it, especially if Panasonic keep to the superb body design of the G9, which is already unbeatable...imho
Hi,
also the GH5 M2 dosen't support live composite view at start but with a firmware update Panasonic added It. So 🤞
Oooh yay fingers crossed 🤞
@@MicroFourNerds probably we get the live composite view? ua-cam.com/video/plt4QUiIGqM/v-deo.html
@@MicroFourNerds I just asked for live composite live view on GH6 to Sean at Lumix cameras live event of today he answered that is one of his favorite feature so he will push for add it to GH6
Fingers crossed for a fourth iteration in the GX7 line
I'd like them to bring back the fully articulating screen and weather resistance of the gx8, the gx9 was fairly disappointing in that regard.
@@tankerbruja The GX8 isn't part of the line (at least not directly). That's the GX80/85.
In Japan the GX80 and GX9 are called GX7MK2 and GX7MK3 respectively.
Im sure you know, but the S5, GH5mkii and GH6 the creative video combined mode or whatever is SO helpful.
how much bit photos? Say please
Thanks for sharing Emily. By the way, what was that 1000%?😀
The building in the photo? The Liverpool Cathedral 😁
@@MicroFourNerds No, the 1000%. That would be 10x and if I do that I can only see pixels regardless of the file or camera.
@@mattisulanto ohhh 😂 sorry. I’m just going off the percentage on the slider I’ve zoomed in within Final Cut 😊
@@MicroFourNerds Try the same in Lightroom😂
I have the G9 and love using it for video as well :), even tho I have the Sony A7III. I still grab for my G9, I'm hope'n to buy the GH6 with my tax return this year. But shhhhhhh don't tell the wife lol. I was wondering when you get sometime free, could you post some 4k@120 running the AF. As this is something I'd use a lot. That's the only thing that would tempt me into buying a Sony A7sIII. I'd rather stay with Lumix as I have invested in their glass, anyway thank you so much. Please keep the great content rolling in.
Thanks for this! Cheers
yes, waiting for a g9-2 with those missing features!
Ha
BTW. I received my new OM-1 a week ago. The only thing I'm jealous of is your hi res mode seems better. :)
The OM1 looks like a great camera!! I need to rent one soon and give it a whirl!
We need a g10!!! I’m glad you don’t think 4/3 Is done :)))
Great video! What are you using to edit the raw files? I can’t get anything to open them. Even tried silkypix pro for Panasonic. Love my gh6 tho!
Lightroom updated and now it’s compatible!!!
@@itsDeza I’m so glad 😁 about time!!
What lens were you using for the bird shot at 3:23? Also, are the RAW files compressed RAW or uncompressd RAW?
🤕
Nice video
I bought a gh6 and I have a strange problem. Well, the recording on the card starts 2 seconds after pressing the shutter. Is it normal?
It is, there is a little delay. Its quite irritating. Also similar on the s5ii cameras. You can make it faster by using the fastest cards and also not relaying to both card slots, but yes, in my experience there is a delay
@@MicroFourNerds I'm using ANGELBIRD AV PRO CFexpress SE 512GB so that should be enough speed
If the GH6 has 20 fps burst with continuous AE/AF tracking, I would buy it.
I never even thought about using it with that lens 👀 that’s a very interesting idea!
@@MicroFourNerds be sure to turn on IS. Boost for best results.
I'd be nice if you put the lens, focal length, ISO, and shutter speed along with the pictures.
Will do I future. Thanks for watching 😊
@@MicroFourNerds great content as usual 🔥
I've been shooting with Sony for 2 years coming from a G9, but I'd be very tempted if Panasonic delivers a G10 with similar performance.
Panasonic is just way more fun to use. And DxO does a great job in case I am shooting at very high ISO.
I wholeheartedly agree. I shoot Sony now but always think back to Panasonic cameras I've owned. This GH6 might win me over 😂
Same here! Still rocking my G9 for now. Fun fact the G10 already exists from a few years back. They may have to call it G9 Mk11 or something :)
G9 & DxO match made in heaven😎
Sorry to say that if the autofocus is pants on any future G9 type camera I will be going to Olympus for sure...
For what you use it for that makes total sense 😊 I have a hide day booked soon to really try out the bird photography side 🤞
@@MicroFourNerds Sweet! I have thought about doing the same for and badgers.
Hi Joe, nice to see you again. I used to enjoy your videos. Keep well 👍🏻
@@richardturner81 Thanks mate! Yeah those were the days aye 👍😀
That 'zoom' I think will create more detailed images then these super resolution modes will, and will look better when you get the shot right.
gh6 or om1 ?
100% GH6 for my needs as a hybrid shooter, as the video features are just incomparably better on the GH6.
I can definitely see the benefit of the OM1 for mainly photographers it seems like a great camera in many ways!
Great video! Will I notice any differences between my GH2 and the new GH6? Just kidding...
Its bigger. 🤣
I'm going to be overly optimistic and say that a G9 successor in the form of a smaller and lighter GH6 without fans and CF express is coming real soon!!
Oh well, one can only wish ...
Yesss I think a slightly smaller form factor would also be great 🤞
And all her predictions came true
No focus stacking 😮
i must not switch to LumixGh6 - must not switch to LumixGh6 - must not switch to LumixGh6... 😀
