I have a GH6. I managed to get this a few months ago when Amazon discounted it. I paid approximately $2,000 Canadian where the camera stores were selling it for just under $3,000. I shoot live theatre, concerts and dance shows. I also have two GH5's and one GH5 Mk 2. I record with Atomos Ninjas and one thing I really like about the GH6 is I can record ProRes internally. I have a 2 TB CF Express card so in addition to recording the 4K on the Ninja, I record 5.7 K ProRes internally. This doesn't just mean backup, it means that should I wish, I can punch in. I power all my cameras with a USB power source and a D Tap to power the Ninja.
Can't agree more. The best thing about this camera are the colors. But the best thing about the GH5 are the fine details and Open Gate 60fps. And the best thing about the G9II is the AF. It seems we never get a perfect camera.
I believe that the GH6 is a camera that covers 99% of the needs for creating content, both creative and commercial. This camera is also suitable for beginners. A year ago in South Korea, I bought this camera for $1300
A year and a half ago I got two open box from BH for $1249 each. I didn’t regret. Only downside is that the high iso for photos is extremely grainy. Besides that, I’m in love with them. And I use the AF tracking and it works very well with my Sigma 16mm 1.4 for churches service!
I got lucky on ebay and got my GH6 for £750! I've used this for video shoots and it cosistently out performs my S5i and ii. The colours are beautiful and when coupled with the 12-35 f2.8 its super versatile. I don't use autofocus as I prefer to nail focus in manual. There's something about the M43s look which I'm a sucker for and the depth of field at 2.8 is just right without overdoing the bokeh.
Picking one up for 1k on Monday and I'm selling my g95 towards it so 600 outta pocket. Being the gh7 is 2200, the GH6 is still a very great camera for all it has and is capable of coming from the GH5. For every thing I do with mine, it will be plenty good and still something to grow into. Also heard the image on the GH6 looks a little better and not as digital as the GH7 but that's just what I heard. Super excited to get it Monday
It's the same as was with the original G9 when is was a bit past the best by date. You could get them for less than $1000 US which was a great value. Thanks mate for sharing.
I've never used Dynamic Range Boost in my GH6, and have been happy with only the natural profile. The colors and footage are astounding. If you want 32 bit float, mount a $99 Zoom H1 essential which has a 1/4 20 thread on the bottom, right where you need it. Yes, you have to sync the audio, but it's not that big of a deal. Also keeps you from spending another $500 plus adding a giant mic. To anyone on the fence, I would opt for the GH6. The value that you get now with the GH7 out is the perfect time to snatch one up. To note, I have never experienced the streaking issue I have heard of and seen others mention. I always like to say, what professional movie/production set uses autofocus? This is a professional camera.
I've been using the GH6 for photos moreso lately. I've only ever really thought of it as a video tool, but it's surprisingly competent. The only thing is that the dynamic range is noticeable less when it comes to my Nikon DSLR. I still love the image it puts out
Things like e-stabilisation could easily be added to the GH6. I'm so tempted to get a third body, as I've seen one used for £850, but I'm holding off on buying any more Lumix cameras. What if the GH7 doesn't sell? Will they abandon that, too?
Your videos keep getting better. You have refined your story telling to a perfect blend of entertaining but with facts and real world experience. This is the mark of all the best UA-cam channels. I have always loved your more down to Earth approach to MFT, and you are not wrong about that price advantage. Just shows how much GH6 sales must have crashed after the GH7 announcement. I, like a lot of people are saving pennies to get a GH7 eventually, but in the sensible real world, I am very happy chugging along with my GH5 II and GH5s, and for stills, I still grab the G9. We are blessed with an abundance of larger body Lumix choices. We just need to convince Panasonic that compact MFT will be a viable path if they introduce compacts with PDAF and flippy screens. There is no shortage of us who prefer MFT to L-mount, and want more of this attention to the MFT ecosystem.

Just picked up an open box GH6 WITH Leica 12-60 lens for $500 from Best Buy a couple weeks ago. Absolute steal, especially since I sold my old GH6 body a few months ago for $1100 and upgraded to G9II as my A cam. The lens alone is worth $500, so I’ll sell that (already have one) and I picked up my B cam for free! 😅

Now they are all of sudden giving 27-54% Off!?..
But shane nobody is buying the the GH6 NEW anymore unless you're mad.
I disagree. There's plenty of people still buying cameras like the G9 or GH5II and they aren't the latest model. All you have to do is check the comment section. If you can pick it up used even cheaper, all the better. :)
You can see some people still buying the GH6 at full price because on Amazon the number of units left is constantly moving.
Yeah it's "54% off" BUT that is off FULL RETAIL which is absolutely ridiculous!!!
It's still a good deal no matter how you slice it for the features. Given the price of the G9II and GH7, it's a great deal. The closest thing is the FX30 and that's nearly 3 grand.
I had one. Photos weren't very good. Video was god except for that DFD
