- Toronto's at-capacity shelter system has been turning away refugees and asylum seekers since the beginning of June and referring them to federal programs, saying it needs more financial support from the federal government. However, many asylum seekers can't get federal help if their claims haven't been fully granted.

We don't have enough well priced apartments, houses etc. Asylum seekers are non-Canadian residents, laws do not even applies to them, their rights are minimal and if they have to sleep outside, at least their lives are not really at risk here. When my grand parents came here with there 3 boys in 1957, it took them 3 years from Belgium to even be accepted, they had to have a family to receive them, help them find an apartment, help them found jobs for about 2 or 3 years before being accepted as Canadian citizens. Back then they did suffer from racism from people where they lived, jobs they took and had to prove to employers each day they could do the job. Being an asylum seeker do they think they would get here and move into a brand new apartment, get a check each week without working, fridge full without working?? Instead of complaining they should move forward to find what they need, work, a job, shelter etc, like everybody else does each day, they are lucky it is not -40 degrees Celcius yet and hydro bill eesshh they are in for a big surprise. Homeless here in Canada haven't been really help at all by governments, they do not get free food from the governments, they do not get an apartment or clothing, a lot suffer from mental issues, abuse etc. Alcoholics and drug addicts that is another story and they can fare for themselves, they made their choices to live that life sadly. We have given so much for Haiti, Ukraine etc, and all i know is our income tax, other taxes, are going up and up, mortgages and apartment and food is the same.
It's easier for some people to want to live their lives as victims. They get away with things and do not want the responsibility to get better. Government is also pushing drugs and alcoholism, and trying to convince people that we have mental health . This creates a society of victims.
Their lives will be at risl in about .... 3 weeks when winter sets in, though.
My family faced a very similar situation when they came. Everyone living in Canada is facing challenges with respect to money. I as a single mother with 3 children, 1 who is disabled wake up everyday worrying about where I will live, and where my disabled child will live as an adult when I am gone. Actually, I think Canada offers it's citizens assisted dying if they are in a dire situation.

I have had to sleep on the streets before nobody gave a single f..k about making sure i had adequate housing, and I am part indigenous and other part moved here during world war Why do others matter over our own .. and its was cold and wet when I had nowhere to go sleeping under a bridge to stay dry ....

I have a brother in law who worked all his life paid his bills pd his taxes put two girl's through university (one died) and hes homeless and guess what there is no help out there. No free housing no housing offered. Hes 60 and homeless. Im sure hes not the only one out there in this situation. Hes not a druggie hes not a drunk he is just broken and homeless where is your sympathy for him and other canadaian citizens in the same boat. People who worked all their lives and paid taxes for the same services being denied them but thrown at these boarder jumpers who just decided to jimp on a plane to an other country that thet have never pd a dime in taxes to and expect to be looked after. They came in by the USA border illegally . We didn't put them on a plane . They tried to ask asylum in usa but they refused them then they came in where there is no border patrol . They didn't do their homework before coming here . Our own citizen have a hard time getting affordable housing . They are lucky they at least get free food . Something we don't have ourself .

Having a big kind heart is not enough. If the government really cares about asylum seekers and not pretentious, it first needs to introspect the needs of exciting people, citizen within the country, fix housing problem fix employment problem fix afford ibility issues get inflation under control fix health care system and then expand the umbrella to the seeker. Don't burn yourself to keep others warm. The seekers might have led a comfortable life in their homeland, the situation forced them to run away, but then keeping them in condition will break them even more

Who is going to pay for these people. Canadians are taxed well over what is reasonable. There are many Canadians that are already homeless and nothing is being done for them or if something is being done it is not being done well by this incompetent liberal government and incompetent prime minister. Whatever is done would require that no more debt be incurred and no increase in taxes. If tax dollars are involved then they should be used to by tickets for these people to go home or somewhere else. Our health care system is also taxed to the breaking point so it can't stand anymore people going into it. They could take all the money that they are giving to low income families and use it, that would be fine since those families are well established in Canada and can do something about their low income. There are jobs waiting to be filled.
They aren't allowed to care about the majority of the poor because of their identity. Same thing for the majority of suicides and depression. Europeans actually caring about Europeans is white supremacy , remember?
Maybe the office of emergency management is a little busy managing the emergency of housing and assistance to the people effected by the emergency of having their homes burned down accross Canada with the wild fires. People who have no place to go and who have lost everything but in some cases the clothes on their backs. In some cases they lost their pets as well. What about their needs and trauma. If that happens nobody will want to buy and rent properties. And you’ll have to buy your own. LOL The only answer is less bureaucracy when issuing buildings permits, which will increase the supply and lower the demand.

I feel terrible for refugees and there should always be safe places for them to escape to but canada cannot support this. They can’t even help Canadians, how can they help others? Housing is a huge issue here.
The major problems we're seeing in the news is a result of the insecurity of safe housing, clean water, healthy food, quality education, and full health care while living out of harmony with the Earth and with each other. One of many solutions could be for humanity to create a secondary safety net for children and adults...a human-made mycorrhizal network consisting of apps to ensure safe housing, clean water, healthy food, quality education, and full health care, an online educational and empowering system of government to identify problems and vote on the most logical and ethical solutions, and a community builder simulator to plan future development to be in harmony with the Earth and with each other. So people could get paid a living wage working towards an ensured basic standard of living for everyone, while achieving self actualization in the process.

Refugees are adding to the homeless people in Canada. Taxpayers cannot afford to support these people, the healthcare system also is in a very tough situation.

I think I'll fly to some nice country like Denmark or Sweden and when I get off the plane and approach the border agents, I'll tell them I'm seeking asylum, and demand shelter, food, money and health care. Because it's my human right as a refugee to have all my needs met, immediately.
I'll be aware that there are perhaps thousands of homeless people living on the streets there, and tens of thousands of people waiting to be allowed in to their country legally, but I'm entitled to immediate services from their country, regardless.

Canadians, Torontonians have been sleeping on the street long before today. Why don’t they get the same coverage? Are we surprised all the migrants that were forced through with no plan, no services, no housing and at a volatile unstable time in this city Wasn’t such a good idea…whos Idea was that again🤔
The groups are different I guess. The more homegown homeless are often struggling with mental health and addiction and may not have the wherewithall to vote for Trudeau. This new group night and perhaps can find employment? My opinion only.
I hope the same kindness , understanding was towards us.
