So so good! I’m a cradle Catholic but my brother has left the church to become a non denominational Christian. Talking to him now he has so many anti Catholic views and such a low church view of the scriptures. It’s difficult to pin a non denom down on these really important differences. The devils in the details and I find they shut you down when you press on the details.

Had this problem with my ex. I grew up Catholic and in the church but I joined her with her non denominational church for a while. Once I began to research my faith a little more, I couldn’t be anything but Catholic. She, on the other hand, couldn’t be convinced of the Catholic Church no matter how much evidence there was to support it, and she just shut down any argument I would bring up. All we can do is pray that the Holy Spirit over time will open loved ones up to the truth and beauty of the Church. Wish you and your brother the best!

I say this with love and respect, totally open to reason. I believe the Catholic church preaches a different gospel. For example:
The Apostle Paul: Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10.13). This is the same gospel of Christ, "Ask and you shall receive."
Catholic doctrine: Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall NOT be saved (i.e. baptism, etc. are necessary for salvation).
Paul said that whoever preaches a different gospel should be accursed. You can talk about your lineage, your heritage, Biblical canon, yet you have a different gospel. You cannot say that I did not warn you! Remember, God's fiercest wrath is towards those who hinder people from coming to know Him. Christ died on a Cross so that, just by asking, you may know Him. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

If you really want to explode your brain with the bible it’s typology.
In exodus Moses learns the name of YHWH.
Ex 25:22-30 God gives Moses instructions on building the Ark of the Covenant to hold the word he will give them. The Ark is overlayed with Gold. And on top … a mercy seat. The Ark to be placed in the holy of holies in the temple.
In NT we see Mary as the mother of Jesus. Jesus the word made flesh, Jesus who says he is the law of Moses, Jesus who calls himself YHWH.
Revelations end of chapter 11 ends with God opening the gates of heaven to reveal the Ark of his covenant. Chapter 12 reveals this to be Mary … the new Ark that bears the living word of God in her womb. An Ark made of flesh and the word made flesh, contrast to what Moses had that was both holy objects in the temple.
Mary in heaven in God’s temple standing on the moon clothed in the sun wearing a crown with 12 stars to represent the 12 tribes led by the 12 apostles. Only royalty wear crowns … and wearing a crown in heaven is the mother of Christ.
Chapter 12 talks about how the serpent attacked Mary in heaven but that she was protected by God. And when Mary was then on earth, the serpent tried to attack her again by spewing water (words/temptation) that the earth opened up and swallowed it. God protecting Mary from sin … allowing her to be full of grace. With an all powerful God why wouldn’t he protect the mother of his only begotten son.
Jesus goes on to create a church with the apostles as the teachers. The church being the assembly of people who worship God. The church being in all who believe in christ.
As he was dying on the cross, Christ looked at John the apostle he loved and Mary his mother and said son behold your mother and mother behold your son. John the only apostle brave enough to witness the crucifixion, John of the church Jesus made. Mary the mother of the church, church the children of Mary. We being a part of the church … Mary is our mother.
And where did God ask for the Ark of his covenant to be placed? In the Holy of Holies with a mercy seat (Jesus) on top from which God would converse with the priests of the church. Jesus who converses with the apostles/authority of the church with the help of the Holy Spirit. We won’t talk about what happened to those people who were not priests who entered into the holy of Holies in Moses time to converse with God
Mary queen of heaven, who belongs in the temple in the Holy of Holies under the mercy seat where God speaks to us.
Eve who was asked by God not to eat of the tree of knowledge … but fell into temptation and committed sin. Blaming the serpent for deceiving her even though it was her choice to eat the fruit in the end, and then tempting Adam to sin. Adam who ate the fruit and then blaming Eve for tempting him.
Mary in complete obedience to God agreed freely to have Jesus in her virgin womb and believing in Christ and her role in God’s plan. In every way succeeding where Eve failed.
Jesus being completely obedient to God in following the laws and creating his new church to convert Jewish people that followed the old laws and gentiles who were excluded from the old laws. Fixing what Adam had broken by creating a bridge of salvation for humanity to God. Our relationship to be one with God in heaven restored.
Both Jesus and Mary are essential to God’s plan. That is why Mary is so special. She was fully human with no divine nature, but was favoured by God and obedient in every way the rest of humanity is not. She is the best of us, chosen by God to bear his only son.

Catholics read the Scriptures every week and have a tenable position from Scripture.
The Scriptures testify that Jesus Christ founded a Church, gave the authority of that Church to His Apostles (Mt 16, Mt 18, Mt 25).
His word testifies that we are to hold fast to the faith "once and for all delivered" (Jude 3), that the "Church is the pillar and foundation of the Truth" (1 Timothy 3:15), and that we ought to hold fast to "the traditions handed to you by word of mouth or by letter" (2 Thess. 2:15).
It testifies that the Eucharist is the flesh of Our Lord (John 6, 1 Cor 11).
It testifies that those Christ places in authority have the authority to forgive sins (John 20:19-23).
      And... much much more...

No they don't. They have them read to them, most aren't really listening, and many of the teachings of the RCC are NOT tenable based off Scripture-which is why "the Church" contradicts Scripture and claims the Scriptures are "insufficient." Too much of "the Churches" reasoning is viciously circular.

@jessebryant - which one of those “actual Words” are you speaking about? Can you please be more specific. Is it of the Protestant ones that believe infant baptism is salvific or the ones that do not? Is it the Liberal Evangelical version or the Conservative Evangelical version? Could it be a Calvinist or Armenian or the Anglican viewpoint? Those that believe in woman ordinations or same sex marriages? Lord’s supper symbolic or sacramental? The once saved always always saved group or the not? Maybe Mormons, JWs, SDA’s, or the Oneness Pentecostals position as they too preach from the same bible also??? Surely you cannot think all these positions are acceptable. If not then which one is correct and why do you get to be the one to choose? Is yours the infallible one? If not then who really cares? OR, Jesse, you could cut to the chase and just answer the one question-
History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, not only did they not agree but their list of would-be canons were GROWING during this time. So, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 5th century with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and preserved it by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us, show us, who did “love the Bible” this much back then?

As for your facetious questions... Read the Bible first and then I will ask you as Jesus did the lawyer and I will ask you in turn: "How readest thou?" NOBODY says that there aren't difficult passages in the Bible (and they are the basis for so many of the Catholic Churches claims-at which point the "Church" claims to be the infallible authority-which is a wonderful claim to make about yourself), least of all the Bible itself. But if you would like to actually "reason from the Scriptures" that water baptism is salvific period-least of all for those who are incapable of either repentance or faith, then by all means, please do so.
