      I got the solar fountains all over the back yard

    I've gotten to the point I think the water is more important than food for our feathered friends. I have 2 bird baths. 1 in the front and 1 in the back. I have stone bubblers in each of them. I scrub out daily and give new water. In the winter I use heated bb's so water doesn't freeze. I have a huge cool variety of birds that come. Baking soda is also a good cleaning agent. Thanks for the info and happy birding! ❤😊

      Yes I completely agree! I consistently have birds at all my baths and have to refill and clean daily. When you have a heated bird bath in winter during freezing temperatures it's a gold mine for birds.

    Great info. Thanks. I love the dripping bottle idea. I never thought of that. It's so simple.

    Thx for the vinegar/water mixture idea. Found that maintaining a regular source of water keeps it frequently visited even without movement. We keep a rock in the water and noticed smaller birds like sitting on that while drinking. Easy-to-listen-to video. Thx. 🙏

      You're very welcome! I just always dislike using bleach when I can so the vinegar mixture is perfect. Adding rocks for birds to perch is always helpful! Thanks for watching.

    Great suggestions - rock pump and wiggler - I didn’t know about them and the solar one didn’t work well. As one commenter said, the water sprinkled out of the birdbath and it was emptied quickly. But I’m going to try to find the wiggler and see how that works. Very helpful video👍

      The wiggler has been working great and the birds use that bath daily now. Good luck!

    Loved the video. Searching around for water features, diy, some are too involved and others well they may scare the birds. I'm back to earth now and maybe one tier. I have a pump kit etc. I just need to choose the set up. I've got it now. Thanks for the info and the smiles.

    Thank you! I bought a solar pump, but unfortunately the wind constantly blows the water all over the yard, emptying the bath and defeating the entire purpose 😂 and on days when the sun isn’t shining, it doesn’t work at all. So I appreciate these tips. Thank you. I’ve found this video to be informative, easy to understand and you’ve kept my attention. Great job! I hope your channel continues to grow, as you’re such a blessing and quite talented in this area.

      So sorry to hear! I've definitely heard that about some solar pumps. I've just always had a lot of my bird baths in shady areas so solar was never an option. Thank you very much for all the kind words! I greatly appreciate it!

    I used DIY solar powered fountains in the SoCal summer, but it's May Gray right now, so switched to portable battery powered ones. They work great! Thanks to @RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy. Now I'll look for the rock bubbler & water wiggler.

      Yes, I remember the June gloom days when I lived in Cali. Definitely try out the battery water wiggler if you don't want to deal with a cord. I have been really happy with it ever since I got it. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you so much! You covered so much here. How about the solar panel ones? Too warm?

    • @grantrettig
      @grantrettig  7 місяців тому

      You're very welcome! No the issue with the solar ones for me is that there is just too much shade from trees to keep it going indefinitely. If you had a bright area that gets lots of sun I wouldn't see any issue.

    Can you share the name of the rock bubbler pump you use? I am looking for one with adjustable pressure like you suggest, since I want the bubbler effect, and not a fountain effect.
    Also, do you know if the pump gets damaged in case the water dries up. I can see this happening during the summer months, when i may forget to refill the bath.

    • @grantrettig
      @grantrettig  6 місяців тому

      This is the link to the bubbler that I have amzn.to/3VL8I8x. But I will tell you I paid like a third of that in 2017 for it. It does have an adjustable pressure switch on it as do most small pumps that fit the rock. Unfortunately yes they definitely will get burned up if the bath goes empty and you don't refill it right away. I have burned up quite a few bird bath pumps over the years. You will notice that if birds are using the bath a lot, they tend to shake and empty a lot of the water. Good luck!

    I use apple cider vinegar in the water twocap. Fulls!

    • @grantrettig
      @grantrettig  6 місяців тому +2

      Apple cider vinegar should work just fine and is non toxic, but white vinegar will do a better job cleaning due to the higher acidity.
