    I just had a feeling you'd be a BOC fan, Nick. One of my absolute favourite bands with amazing lyrics and one of my big guitar heroes in Buck Dharma. I'm more a rock/post-punk fan who likes metal - you've introduced me to a fair few new bands (Tombs being a favourite) so it's great to see what you listen to outside of metal!

    This was quite enjoyable to watch. Cool to see you keep everything even though you may not like it anymore. I have plenty of nu-metal, it is what I grew up on back in the day and helped me get into the good shit haha! Still jam it once in a while too!
    Transcending Obscurity just kills it damn near every time, I purchase almost everything from that label it seems. Been jamming Sepulchral Curse lately, fantastic Death metal from Finland. Cheers!

    100% agree about MONSTROSITY ! Amazing riffs, heavyness, techincal, melodic. I love this band. For me their number one is "Millennium". FRAGMENTS OF RESOLUUUUTIOOONN rules ! "Impending doom " is killer album - this song "Ceremonial void" is just amazing. Only weak point of this band are album covers - "Miilennium", "In dark purity" or "Rise to power" have really BAD album covers. Of course "Impending doom" cover is amazing, in the same style as "HYPOCRISY "Penetralia". Please, If You can, give me Your quick ranking of MONSTROSITY albums, Nick, please.
    PS 1 This whole "Metal tag response" is really extreme interesting for me.
    PS 2 I always wonder - if you answer this questions like this in "Metal tag", do You pick albums that are "not so obvious", so that You can show to subscribers "something different, something new" than expected ?

    I was reading an interview a few years ago with Lars and he was saying in the 80s drumming was a competition between all the bands so he pushed himself more, but now he doesn't care as much he's more interested in just doing what he feels best for the song. It's a good interview if you want to read it. www.blabbermouth.net/news/metallicas-lars-ulrich-isnt-bothered-by-criticism-of-his-drumming-abilities-ive-got-nothing-left-to-prove/

      He was put behind the Drums in the beginning because he couldnt play an instrument.. so he tried hard from day one but suffered from lack of Talent.

    LOL, Nick, I so much agree about Lars. The guy sucks. He cannot do any of those harder drum tracks from ...And Justice for All in concert that well. I saw him "attempt" to do Dyer's Eve live, years ago, in Seattle. It was terrible. You can do anything in a studio, but doing it live is a whole different matter. JFC, just a few metal drummers that walk Lars: Vinnie Paul (RIP), Gene Hoglan, Dave Lombardo, Mike Borden, Nick McBrain, Scott Travis, Dan Swano (played drums on Resurrection Through Carnage), "Axe", Martin Lopez, Paul Bostaph, Bill Ward, "dude from Nile"...........I mean FFS. The question should be, "Who is not better on drums in metal than Lars?" \m/ \m/

    My answer on the first question is Overkill. Their music if fine but I absolutely cannot STAND Bobby's shrieking, snarling vocals. I feel the same was about 3 Inches of Blood. Also, Portal still holds the record for me as the heaviest thing I've ever listened to.

    19. Warbringer, Disincarnate, waylander, Horcas, and eruption. Warbringer is some great modern thrash very reminiscent of slayer. Disincarnate is some under appreciated death metal from the 90’s. Waylander is really unique they are like folk metal with vocals that sound like Chuck Shuldiner’s. Horcas is some amazing thrash from Argentina, eruption is some fun low key modern thrash, all very great and underrated bands imo

    Regarding Lars Ulrich as the weakest link I kinda have to disagree a bit. Sure, he is and was not the best drummer but what he lacks in drumming skills, he makes up in songwriting skills! Rob Trujillo once mentioned that witnessing Ulrich and Hetfield writing songs was a magical experience. Dave Lombardo or Charlie Benante might have given Metallica a complete different sound, but I think its meant to be how it turned out. When I think of the weakest link in a Band, I think of Corpsegrinder - he sounds all the same and has almost zero variation. Anyways, cool channel you have there - keep up the nice work! Greetings from Denmark \m/

    1.Reactory
    2.Repulsion-Horrified (that bass tone sucks lol)
    3.Iron Maiden (ok bruces vocals are quite bad now, steve needs to let them tune down because his vocals are nowhere near as good, even compared to the early 2000s and Iron Maiden is my favorite band so don't think that I don't like them or nothing)

    If I had to pick an album that the production really ruins it for me it would be Carcass - Reeks of Putrification. I love a raw production but the production on that is just terrible. For me Carcass starts at Symphonies of Sickness. I love that album. I just got a Entombed - Left Hand Path Backpack. I've never owned a backpack, but when I saw that on Amazon I decided now's the time. lf I had to pick an album that defined heavy I would just play someone of the the With The Dead, or Triptykon albums. With the Dead is heavier than lead elephant balls. would say I like the alternate cover of Autopsy's Severed Survival more than the original...which kind of sucks. The release album cover of Exodus's Pleasures of the Flesh sucks compared to the original cover they wanted. Most metal cover: Exciter - Heavy Metal Maniac. lol.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  3 роки тому +2

      Necrotic Nick- While Reek sounds filthy I think that was the idea with the sound. Granted, I prefer Symphonies onward over Reek but I think the production was intentionally rough. With Breeding the Spawn I think they were shooting for something similar to what they got on Effigy. I thought about doing Autopsy but I stuck with Cannabis Corpse instead. Solid answers here, bro.

    Lars would be my first pick for a band with a weak member. The riffs are killer, and I dig James Hetfield's guitar work and voice. But the drums being more meat and potatoes has always stuck out to me on their albums. As a guitar player myself knowing drummers, I have yet to personally meet a drummer who is influenced by Lars' drumming. They usually pick the other thrash metal drummers like Dave Lombardo or Charlie Benante, if they are influenced by death metal. I still dig the first four Metallica albums because the guitar work and the bass work by Cliff Burton. Newsted was a fine bassist. I just wish I could hear it on ...And Justice for All. But yeah, Lars is not that great and I never want to hear the dung, dung, dung, dung from St. Anger
    An album that took my musical taste a different direction, first thing to come to mind is Depeche Mode's Violator but I'm sure I have a handful of albums I can think of.

    Bruh, politics don't change riffs. Doesn't matter if it's a commie or a nazi band.
    Imagine listening to Effigy of The Forgotten for the first time (we all remember that moment) without a lyrics sheet, loving it, and then when reading the lyrics afterwards you find out it's radically right wing/left wing/islamic whatever.
    Throw away the album?
    Has nothing to do with the music.
    If I buy fish on a market I don't care what politics the guy selling it agrees with, I want my damn fish as well as my damn riffs.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  3 роки тому

      Necrotic Nick- It matters if it's a Nazi band to me. Those knuckle-draggers aren't getting my money because it's a weak-minded mentality for weak people. Most of metal when it does bring up politics is left leaning. We have our roots in punk/ anti-establishment rhetoric like bucking conservatism. As for Suffocation, their them was always death, brutality, torture and they weren't serious about it. If they were a Nazi band (which would make zero sense with their line-up) Roadrunner wouldn't have touched them. Sorry man, NSBM can go fuck itself with a sandpaper dildo.
