    Thanks for your thoughts on these questions. Gave me some ideas for new things to listen to; such as that early Scorpions album. I would say that 13 is holding up really well, but I can also say that I like both Heaven and Hell The Devil You Know and Black Sabbath 13. Both sound pretty good, and different as well. \m/

    Call me crazy but I can enjoy the vocals in Periphery, though I can totally see why a lot of people wouldn't. Still tho, can't deny that musically, Racecar is one of the best songs ever.

    Nice video! Both your metal tag videos are better than so many metal tag videos I've seen on UA-cam. Most of them are guys with terrible camera/sound quality, strong accents, and all their picks are albums and bands that no one has heard of. They just get really boring after a while. I'm glad you guys went with stuff that people actually know and we can universally agree on while still keeping it personal to you.

    Excellent choice for Savatage. Savatage rules and I dug the hell out of the music. Criss Oliva was one of the most underrated guitar players. The musicianship was off the charts, and honestly, if Grunge never happened and Criss didn't die so young, I think Savatage had the potential to really take off.

      I don't know about that. Metallica would not have become as big as they have without Lars. Lars may not be the best drummer in the world, and he doesn't care that he isn't, but he's a keen song arranger and without Lars business sense and vision Metallica wouldn't have gotten that big. While James is the main song writer, Lars has always been the driving force behind Metallica. He got them on Metal Massacre, he got them signed to Metalforce, he then got then negotiated and got them signed to Elektra and got them the QPrime Managment. When it comes to most of the decisions behind the band, both good and bad, it's usually Lars.

      I’d say up until the Black Album, he was pretty invested in drums. He started off playing drums and took lessons here there throughout the 80s, and when Metallica got a bit technical and Progressive, he stepped up his drumming and gave us admirable and incredible performances on both MOP and AJFA. Of course after that point, he had to juggle managing Metallica as a whole and musicianship, so in way he peaked then. But after that he continued to adapt and apply himself to whatever musical direction Metallica were doing at the time (divisive as they were), even now.
      I think he still stands by the drums, despite how busy he is for it.

    It's me again. Lol. I forgot to say that the song The River Dragon has come was my introduction to Nevermore years ago, when it was included on a Century Media compilation called Identity 7 , I think it was 7. So Dead Heart in A Dead World has become my favorite Nevermore album too. I own that one and Politics Of Ecstasy which had Pat O'Brien

    I once heard Kirk Hammett say that when they were doing that tour in northern Sweden, Kirk, James and Cliff were actually listening to drummer demos and were going to replace Lars at the end of the tour. Of course Cliff was killed during that tour and nixed the idea of firing Lars. Another shitty part of Cliffs death.

    Does your disdain for slam include Devourment? They are ground zero for the style but lack a lot of the trappings that make the genre easily dismissed.

  • @alex_flamer
    @alex_flamer 3 роки тому +1

    Yes Metallica is my favorite band but I have to agree Lars definitely never pushed himself to be better. Maybe it's because of how much of a commerical band they eventually became where technical playing is likely to scare people who really aren't into metal?
    Also on that note, Kirk could definitely use a better guitar tone. He uses too many "Wah" sounds mixed with bluesy solos and he is also starting to get outclassed by other bands I've heard.

    I agree with not liking slam vocals. I find pig squeals and the frogish type of vocals those bands have to be ridiculous and annoying. I do however love how catchy as fuck and crushing the music end of it is. I can sometimes try to ignore the vocals to enjoy the music of it.

    The Sodom pick for bad production triggered me lol.

  • @Gregbaltzer
    @Gregbaltzer 3 роки тому +1

    I love Sodom's self titled album, but I never had an issue with the production. I recently got it on vinyl so now I have to spin it to see if I notice your issues. I just remember it came out the same year as Slayer's Christ Illusion, which is the first Slayer album I didn't, and still don't, like. I remember thinking "Sodom just out Slayered Slayer!" With regards to Lars honestly I never heard one single person ever complain about Lars's drumming in the 80s. And honestly Lars's drumming still doesn't bug me. He's a bit of a one trick pony now, but I really don't care a whole lot. And like I said in another post Metallica would not have become as big as they did without Lars, because Lars was the real driving force and vision behind Metallica. And Lars is an excellent song arranger. Tom G. Warrior broke up Celtic Frost because he was having trouble on tour with their then drummer and when Martin Ain took the drummer's side Tom felt betrayed by Martin. Tom said he formed Triptykon so he could continue to play Celtic Frost's songs live because he loves playing those songs. With the passing of Martin though I really don't see any future for Celtic Frost. Triptykon really sounds like where Celtic Frost left off with Monotheist anyways. I bought Black Sabbath's 13 and it really didn't impress me at all. I just thought it was "okay" at best. Not nearly as good as Heaven and Hell - The Devil You Know. And when I asked myself "which would I rather listen to 13 or classic Sabbath?" and the answer was "Classic Sabbath any day" I sold 13. I might piss you off with this but I think Megadeth, along with Danzig, need to retire. Dave can still write good songs, BUT his vocals are completely gone. I just couldn't get into Dystopia because Dave's voice sounds so flat and it's obvious his vocals got a lot of studio treatment to sound as good as they do on Dystopia.
