  • Many of you would be surprised, but to be honest Austro-Hungarian Empire gets almost none of the attention by everyone in subject of WW1. Only thing known to people know is that they started war and fought on Isonzo. They deserve more attention.

    When your army is so culturally diverse, you can't communicate eachother:

      Quite wrong you are. Cultural diversity was the norm of Habsburg forces since late medieval times, yet they worked. You think by 1914 they'd just forget it? The reality is that mandatory, secular and state-funded education was in effect since reforms of Maria Theresa, which was a hundred and more years before other powers of Europe introduced anything similar and while during her reign the language of education was German, her son, Joseph II, introduced bilingual schools. Basically everyone not adult-immigrant were mandated to learn their native and German language and language of army command was German, ergo everyone could communicate, especially since all troops were expected to know basic German commands by heart. We should also point out the regimental languages and how officers of regiments, who often were natives, and had to be fluent in German, could communicate with their men in their native language as well as German.
      Frankly the idea that they could not communicate is as absurd as it is stupid and shows the actual ignorance on the matter of communication of modern myth-lovers like you.

      @@aeiou-18 i am from bosnia and herzegovina. My great grandfather died for austria hungary in ww1 on a frontline far away from his home. Did it serve any purpose in the end? I don't think so. My great grandmother just lost her husband. I too and my family survived the yugoslav civil wars in the 90s.

    The Problem was it was a show army with officers who never dealt with combat. Austria alone couldn't even defeat Serbia, which should tell you enough.

    • @AEIOU05
      @AEIOU05 10 місяців тому

      Czechs being disloyal was at first a propaganda lie from German nationalists in the empire. Czech political parties all protested those accusations and proclaimed their loyalty to the emperor. However, after the war they claimed that those accusations were true and that they were mostly disloyal and sabotaged the imperial war effort. They embraced this myth in order to cheat themselves out of war reparations and to be on good terms with the entente powers

    You forgot the Italians fighting in the KUK army, especially in the eastern front, in Galicia. I'm talking of about 100.000 Italian speaking people living in the Empire.They fought bravely against Russians. I've a great uncle, officer, captured by Russians, he was prisoner in Siberia during the Russian revolution, he wrote a journal, very interesting. Many Italians were loyal to the Empire, despite the Savoia propaganda and all the rhetoric about the Big Bad Austrian Government. They were treated very badly after the war.
