I really love all quiets depiction of how adapting to survive a traumatic environment in a scale never seen before (and only gets one upped by its sequel) breaks people and reshapes them to only be able to thrive when surrounded by violence. A significant chunk of veterans were not able to make the transition back to civilian society and normalcy, partly due to the new horrors they were witness to, and how little community support (because sometimes all save s few of able bodied young men would be turned into chunky marinara by shells of never before seen lethality to the point that a few new rules of war needed to be added to the unspoken agreement of what's acceptable and what's not, only to be outdone by its sequel which added even more rules to explicitly spell out that to be an honorable soldier you had to fight honorably and that murdering noncombatants irredeemably tarnishes your honor and should see you at the business end of a firing squad after a q swift court martial) and how little social support for disabled vets, both physically and psychologically, (as well as families that just lost their sons, fathers, brothers, the grief of losing the better part of at least two generations of strong, healthy men to a typically violent and anonymous death, or to the permanently deleterious effects that industrialized warfare on the survivors, especially on the combatants who were pressed into service by the draft and given false sense of strength and hope that was shred to pieces the first time a machine gunner or the recon detachment to the artillery units spotted them out) actually existed in comparison to previous generations

Tism moment but the 3:34 flametrooper photo is actually really neat, A kleif and one of the soldiers is equipped with the early m16 "Square dip" stahlhelm, same style seen in the photo at 5:15
Its sad to think that every single one of the men in these pictures has now passed. Frank Buckles was the last surviving World War 1 veteran and he passed away in 2011. Its a shame none of them are around anymore to share their stories and that time period is now locked to us forever. May all the soldiers who fought irrespective of nation, Rest In Peace.
Incredibe that we survived this long and survived battles like Marne, Ypres, Galicia, in Poland, at Verdun, Attack of the Deadmen, Battle of the frontiers, the massive gassing in flanders etc.

I really like this. My great-great-grandfather was a German WW1 soldier, and I never got to hear any side of his story. Him and his family moved to America right as the nazi party occupied Germany, and from what I can assume, faced a bit of oppression as Germans who couldn’t speak any English yet. I’ve always been interested in seeing what it would’ve been like for WW1 Germany soldiers, so thank you.
What's terrifying in WW1 is that everyone is in mixed emotions to what they faced every year from new wonder weapons and inventions that were never seen before
Foxhole is a game that lets you closely experience the insanity of WW1 style warfare, I’ll never forget the naval invasions we did when the naval update came out, there must have been atleast 1 million casualties in trying to take that cursed sand dune alone.
Honestly you could’ve made it where you have the modern songs, then older, then oldest, then battle sounds, then finally more and more static/eerie noises Kinda like everywhere at the end of time

great video but just one question At 2:20 why did you use "Pierwsza Kadrowa" a Polish song I happily recognised by the few first notes as I'm Polish and a diehard fan of Polish military music. But the weird thing is that it doesn't really make any sense for the song to be there. Yes the Polish had a giant legion in the Austrian army but in the context of Germany this makes no sense from what I can tell.
