- Alex Kersten ( @AutoalexCars ) is an automotive UA-camr, Presenter and Podcaster, best known for producing relatable, authentic and passionate car related content. His Mazda MX5, affectionately named 'Phil' has brought in more than 100 million views across his social channels.
Alongside his own content, Alex has pulled together a group of new channels (and friends), all operating under the Auto Alex umbrella, namely @TopDeadC and @AllThe_Gear , bringing together some familiar faces from his time at Car Throttle.
In our interview, we discuss his own personal journey to UA-cam fame, his proudest moments, his long term plans for the Auto Alex group, and how his E46 M3 Touring project build is coming along.

When Alex was part of Car Throttle, you could always tell he was destined for great things. So, it's great to see how well he's doing now he gone out on his own... And even better that he's been able to bring all of the guys who used to be at Car Trottle with him on the journey now too.

Absolutely love Alex such a genuine guy and gives so much back to people around him, deserves nothing but success.
I really like that they've done three separate channels now. It should result in good times. I also appreciate that it's not supercars, it helps keep things relatable (Not that in Australia, any Porsche 993 is remotely affordable, they're easily all over 130k AUD).
Alex has really opened up and I cannot respect him more. I have watched from day 1 and love his silliness as well as his humbleness. My dream would be to become a part of his business one day. He truly inspires me.
Never really watched car throttl and only really ever started watching Alex on his own channel... now here I am, following all the Car Throttl lads in a much happier place, doing content I love, being introduced to Taylor, Tom, Josh and of course,...

Alex is amazing, notably the Mike Brewer imitations where the reason I kept watching his CT videos. The CT podcast was also a good laugh with some incredible stories from the guys and also listeners. When he started his own channel I really hoped it would stick and gain some traction. It's great fun with Taylor coming along in alot of videos and new Ethan and Jack joining in with a new channel!
Watching Alex and co feels similar to watching Top Gear with with Clarkson, Hammond and May for me, that kind of friendly banter among mates
But somehow even more relatable :)

On a more serious note though, enthusiasm and passion for something is a great proxy for care.
People tend to look after things they love just as much as they tend to enjoy them 😊

And you're right. At least, that's how it should be. I've had several cars and because of that i have been in trouble with insurance companies when they thought i was a dealer. I wasn't. I just liked to get a car that wasn't perfect, get it in good condition and then move on to something else.

But you're correct we don't share anything with insurers, which users don't want us to. We assess risk ourselves too though :)
Re the dealership issue you mention, could be for lots of reasons they thought that. Lots of insurance systems and the systems they rely on are pretty archaic and struggle heavily with nuance.
Different for different countries too :)
The insurer is getting lots of clicks by giving a cheaper rate / free.
@@glynsmith2843 Obviously this has got to be a good deal for both parties. But they do sound like an insurance company i'd call if i lived in the UK. If it's like Alex says that doesn't sound bad at all.
Let's be honest here, most insurance companies are scum but amongst all the thiefs there are some good guys.

Unfortunately UK only for now - sorry! Our ownership tooling is available everywhere though and we do intend to expand globally as we grow!
Alex get your Porsche to Restowerz for around 100k they'll turn your car into a Singer like car, it's a brand new car and they look amazing

Such a jarring juxtaposition between Alex's Matt story, and an insurance salesman. In fact, after a quick look, Custodian is the antithesis of shitbox based ordinary person of the people Auto Alex. Or is Alex a spoofer and a shill? I hope not.
Our branding does certainly look high end but we are most definitely enthusiast first not just for expensive cars. (Give The Showroom a look and sort by lowest price first).
We've also put many young drivers on policies they couldn't get anywhere else due to their usage of our ownership tooling. Most of their cars are extremely affordable.
We're an enthusiast platform, anyone who loves their car and the automotive community is more than welcome on Custodian.
Custodian is certainly not the antithesis you're describing :) It's for whoever loves their car!
