    It is a criminal oversight that this wasn’t even nominated for Best Original Score in 1989. The winner is a film no one ever heard of, but this is being listened to and adored to this day. Who’s the real winner here?

    This movie, this music is all about my dad. Growing up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, this really hits home. No matter how tired he was at the end of the day, whenever I asked him if he wanted to play catch, he always did, he never said no. It was our special bonding time together, we would talk and laugh and play catch. How I miss my dad and this movie brings all of that home.

    Its true that baseball marks the times of our life.
    I coached and watched my son play baseball for many years and now at 72 I’m watching my grandson play college baseball.
    There is nothing more rewarding then watching your son hit a game winning Homerun or your grandson hit 4 Homeruns in one day.
    We’ve marked the time by Pinto, Mustang, Pony, Colt, travel ball, High school ball and college baseball, and hopefully my grandson playing professional baseball after college.

    One of my very favorite movies, I’ve seen it more times than any other film. I know it scene for scene, word for word. And the score is phenomenal, evoking tremendous emotion the way a superlative score does. This orchestra did an amazing job with every nuance. But speaking of jobs, this video led me to realize that the job of conductor is completely superfluous. This guy is up there flapping away like Red Skelton doing Gertrude and Heathcliff, and absolutely every member of the orchestra is paying him no attention whatsoever. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Every eye is glued to the sheet music the entire time. He could have taken off his clothes and smeared himself with cake frosting and no one would have noticed. I suppose someone has to say, “go”, but at that point he might as well have a seat in the front row and enjoy the performance.

    It is springtime and even though I have lived in Florida these many years, I feel the same kind of renewal that I felt growing up in the North. I watch this movie each March right before the baseball season and it is as if I have dipped myself in magic waters. The memories are so thick that I have to brush them away from my face. Parents, brother, family members and friends that have departed they are my Field of Dreams. This soundtrack is the music of melancholy and quiet hope and remembrance of this past. It has moved me for close to 30 years.

    Any boy from the age of 3 or 4 who grew up to the age of 94 who played baseball during their lives cannot be sitting listening to this masterpiece without tears flowing. The "catch with Dad" was something you cherished. Not as much when you were 5 or 6 but certainly when your Dad passed on and there were no more chances to have "a catch". And, for me, the chance (yes, an absolute fantasy) to maybe get a chance to play with Shoeless Joe or Smokin Joe Wood or Mel Ott - I would have given my soul for the opportunity. This music, that film will always be a favorite of mine, forever. It makes the fact that I miss the smell of freshly cut grass, the smell of my new glove that had been oiled all winter in preparation, the competition, the crack of the bat and the sound of one of my fastballs hitting Ed Kelley's catcher's mitt feel like it all happened just yesterday. Field of Dreams forever.

    One of Mr. Horner’s best scores. Only someone like he can truly capture the wonder, the beauty and feel of life in the Midwest. Damn the LA and New York “critics”. Take it from someone who lives the Midwest life, growing up in the country and now living in the city. He nailed the feel and emotion spot on! While much different but evoking the same feeling, the only other score that does the same thing is Jerry Goldsmith’s score for Hoosiers. This performance from Fimucite is perfection!

      Thank you so much for your wonderful comment Kara. We will send it to Maestro Diego Navarro. Actually, you are right!, you have to know that during our concerts, the audience is able to watch maestro´s faces as well as the entire orchestra on the big screen we have in the stage, thanks a big TV production we manage every year. That´s actually one of FIMUCITÉ´S innovations. After we add this "signature tool", many others around the world, started doing the same. We encourage you to come to Tenerife, to our FIMUCITÉ festival and live the experience, which is so emotional and special!!.

    I had an amazing relationship with my parents but this piece, maybe above all others, just breaks me. What I wouldn't do to have 15 minutes to have them meet their granddaughter who was born after both had passed away already and the chance to throw the football around with my dad and talk about the Bears one more time?

    • @aaronconfer9629
      @aaronconfer9629 5 років тому +8

      @@markvonschlieder6032 I've always taken exception when people state that this is one of their favorite baseball movies. When in realty, baseball was really just the backdrop or the medium through which Ray could connect with his father in an effort to try to make up for the mistakes he made in his younger life and never got a chance to. Him saying "Dad, you wanna have a catch" is just his way of saying "Dad, I'm sorry, I was a stupid kid but I'm grown up now, haven't I made you proud? I'm just like you and I've had to deal with this sadness and guilt, because we don't always get second chances here on Earth in this lifetime."
