Today I am going to attempt the Windows 98 and Windows 11 dual boot. I don't think it was even thought to be possible. Let's try taking the dual booting to its absolute limits!

A tip if you are going to make a dual boot with BCD: Use the legacy boot menu, that way you don't need to wait for windows 11 to boot before booting to other systems. I don't know the command for that as I use EasyBCD.

@@andreisurubaru6389 No, F8 just opens the advanced boot options. What I'm refering to is an actual command in CMD.
I think the command is: bcdedit /set “{current}” bootmenupolicy legacy
@@pessoaanonima6345 this requires the system BIOS be run in legacy mode to work..which comes with performance & possible security penalty. that's fine, but be aware.

In my opinion you shouldnt go over pentium 4 when installing windows 98. Also you shouldnt install any new hardware, especially fast graphics cards. Just some pci 4mb card. And don't install any directx. Not even 7.0. There you go - glitchless windows 98

Yeah I tried to run 98 in a 2.6ghz cpu from 2006 and it just won't work

It would be easy if you fork another distro, for example arch.
1. Download archiso
2. Chroot into archiso and edit the iso as you prefer
3. Boom, useless distro created
In that OS, anything (like Desktop Icons, Menu Button, Files, etc) would teleport if you try to click it with your mouse *arrow* just like Endermen do.

One of my favorite little tricks with modern Windows bootloader is that you can go into "advanced startp options" and reboot into the older OS from there in order to avoid that second reboot :)
Or use EasyBCD which let's you use the non GUI bootloader automatically
or just use another good bootloader

Why don't dualboot Windows 9x and Home NT versions first, then dualboot the rest.
@@Droucked not even gpu as well. You actually need a computer support Windows 95 to 10 that run just fine without causing BSOD on Windows 10. However, my knowledge can be wrong since I haven't tested yet.
Edit: Windows 11 require 312MB to just create RAM Disk (used to use the (part of) hard drive as temporary storage. However, just 512mb can run Windows 10 with start menu and taskbar works.
1GB is the minimum you could go for just simple tasks.

Technically, this laptop is'nt compatible with neither Windows 11 (or 10😅) nor Windows 98. LOL.
I hated how 98 wanted a reboot for everything, that was the thing that got me to upgrade to XP initially back in the day :)
Sounds silly now, but when you had a CompaQ PC with 366mhz Celeron and 64 megs of ran with Quantum fireball HDD each reboot was a coffee brake :D
I used to run Windows 10 on a Lenovo Ideapad 330. Each reboot was a coffee break
Does your G570 have a dedicated graphics?
Or why do you have the newer windows 11's interface on settings and explorer? I tried it in a VM and I get the windows 10's interface in both of them (btw i've a G480 with an i7-3632QM, without dedicated graphics)

@@SKCro. Even if you "bypass" the limits, 1 GB of RAM won't be enough. Idk about Win itself but you won't be able to launch any app with that amount of RAM.

Hi all, I'm currently dual-booting Ubuntu with Windows 11 but I want to add WinXP into the mix for running old programs since using VM isn't native speed, is it possible to do that considering I also using UFI?

The question is, will windows 11 update and modify your boot files, leaving you no way to get back to windows 98? Windows 10 does that to linux pretty commonly.
Windows 10/11 only does that if you follow the Linux advice on how to use grub, if you use the Microsoft boot menu you never hit that problem, strangely using the Microsoft menu is supported by Microsoft & doesn't get stomped, plenty of tutorials how to do it if you google them. Just ignore the nay-sayers on the Linux forums. To answer your question, no the 98 entry won't get stomped on by updates either.
This is interesting also apparently the installer limits windows 11 currently not the OS so using shift+f11 and dism should work, hoping that mess is solved by release otherwise they'll be leaving it again to third-party users to plug the holes.

I think Windows 98 looks so much nicer than any of the new operating systems Microsoft has put out in the past 20 years.
To be fair, windows 7 comes close with the classic theme (i still don't get why they removed it from 10/11)
@@oggilein1 I'll give you that, it's pretty good on it. I used to use the classic theme on my computer at work while we still had Windows 7. Now that we have Windows 10, I can't do that anymore.
I like 98, XP and 7, all for their own reasons
Windows 2000 is my main PC I'm a writer and published author and I write my books on windows 2000 I just use windows 10 for streaming UA-cam

going into startup settings isnt spamming f8 now, hold shift then press restart, go to repair, troubleshoot, show more options, startup options, hit restart and finally you can choose how u wanna boot.

Yes
Windows XP, Vista and 7 has a classic theme which is look like Windows 95, 98 and ME. On Windows 8, classic theme was removed and Aero was replaced with Metro.
If you're encountering Windows 11 performance issues on the laptop, disable HVCI and VBS because your laptop's processor doesn't have MBEC. (mine still lags even though it has.)

It's possible if there's a 2.5 inch form factor storage which has capacity of 20 terabytes or more

First try Windows 95 to 10, then 3.1, then 1.0/2.0. Make sure you have at least Pentium 4 or newer, 1GB or RAM or higher, and a 256GB storage or higher. (I guess?)
the software would work (windows 10 has support for infinite operative systems in the boot menu ) but you would need the word largest hard drive
@@EmanueleX you don't have to use the world's largest hard drive, as Windows 10/11 will only took less than 100gb (and more than 90gb if I'm aware)
Still, if you really meant every single one of them (including service packs, .x1/.x2,... versions and features updates), then yeah, you need the largest hard drive.

The win11 installer appears to have detected the 98 install and offered the ability to upgrade it! It even refers to it as "A supported version of windows". I wonder if that feature actually works, it's likely gone untested since the xp/vista/7 era.
This Upgrade Button does not function regardless of function. It has been in windows since vista but only worked on XP when running the vista installer on XP (or in the case of 7, vista) and was grayed out when in WinPE. However, Windows 8 got its shiny new installer when running from within an existing install, but the WinPE one was never changed (well beyond some colour and branding changes). This upgrade option remained and was quietly ungrayed out by microsoft adding to confusion.

Yes it is but to do so you have to have an os with grub bootloader (eg Ubuntu {Linux})
