    Rapido make great products, if there's a problem they always try and make it right. Glad you contacted them, should always be the first response after informing people you have a problem. Great to see they acknowledged the issue and provided a fix! great video

      Unfortunately, the new trucks do not have the car reporting marks and car number printed. Oh well.

    Glad you got the rolling issue solved. That was great of Rapido to send you all of the truck replacements.
    Now you will have to run a mega coal empty lol !

    That was a very time consuming project but I’m glad they stood good and stand behind the product.
    They do make a tool that fit’s between the truck frames to open up the bearings cups, but it too is time consuming but you won’t need to put undue stress on the frames by bending them out and taking a chance on snapping one off. Ron

      Actually to problem with these is that the manufacturer used the wrong, non slippery plastic. There is no saving them.

    Another fantastic coal gondola are the slightly older Athearn RTR 5 pack! (Blue box with the yellow oval) The detail is fantastic and the shinny aluminum take them to another level!

    Good service from RAPIDO .
    Did any of these axles had a resistor for the signals or they were equipped yet ?
    If you uncouple a car or a series of cars in the helix , would they go all the way or they would derailed going too fast ?

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  Рік тому +1

      Yes. There are resistor wheelsets on every other car. And yes they will roll down the helix very fast. Not good when that happens. Main reason I have converter all cars to kadee. Coal trains have end of train dpu, so not an issue.

    Just curious, can't remember the video you mentioned this in.
    But why only 45 cars? Is it space, fit better with your layout?
    I lived in provo UT for awhile and they were consistently around 120 cars. Now I'm in east texas right next to a CPKC line that runs up coal trains almost every day. I hear on their detector axle count anywhere from 522 to 532 axle counts which is a 2×2 or a 2×1 which generally is 126 cars.
    Just curious.
    FYI, I am only 500 feet away from the mainline and laying in bed I can watch them Go by put my window. My radio is in my room too so I can hear 3 detectors and get advanced notice of trains coming. As we speak there's a manifest train in a yard 15 miles north of me dropping off 1 car, picking up 11. Heard on the radio as I'm watching this video, so in about an hour I'll have an east bounder roll by my place.
    Love your layout fyi. You're my only channel I consistently watch.
    Oh also, about 2 months ago one up coal train here couldn't make it up a hill here, someone never checked the sand level in 2 of the locomotives and stalled out. A local set of gp 40s came from a yard(same one as above) hooked up and gave them hell, after a few attempts stretching the cars and releasing they got momentum back and got her rolling.
    So even the big trains stall out with coal lol. Thought it was pretty cool to watch that coal train get helped by 2 gp40s. Almost couldn't do it

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  Рік тому

      Staging yard only holds 45 cars max. Cool thar you live so close to the mainline.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  Рік тому

      A little, not too much. Four locos have no trouble either direction.

    All depends on who owns them whether or not they'd still be in unit train service...if owned by a utility that has rotary dumpers, then the bathtub gons might still be hauling coal. I'd need an Official Railway Equipment register to know for sure though(I had a couple from the late 80's early 90's when I worked in logistics, but I had to let them go when I had to sell my parents old retirement home, not enough to time to save everything).

    • @25mfd
      @25mfd Рік тому +1

      those bathtub gons are steel... really heavy... once the (much lighter) aluminum gons came on the scene EVERY steel gon disappeared from the coal mines... most have been repurposed to scrap service

    I would be a little leery of bending the side frames outwards. I know it would take longer, but Ive taken my Dremel with a cutoff disk and grind down the point on the end of the axle that fits into the hole in the back of the side frame. Just my .02 worth.
