    Nice tutorial. I've been learning waterstart and the first time was a pain. The second time was much fine. One important hint that was passed to me was to start with medium/low power and keep an eye on the board just just when the kite passes at 01 : 00 or 11 : 00 to have the feeling of the board and get up on a controlled manner. I wish someone told me that sooner. Also, to keep some power when you put the board on , you could just pull the bar (but eventually it will stall) or just lock on the middle with you right hand it at 11:00 which I find much easier. Anyway, great video ;)

    great tutorial Gust!
    it is a good thing to compare with car driving, as a fresh newbie in this sport (10h lessons so far and few waterstarts) I myself compared it with motorbike riding as I am a rider for over 20 years.
    Yes we all see them do wheelies and knee down... but it aint like that. you have to approach with finesse and learn how to achieve skills and mainly get used and familiar to your gear.
    Take the time and follow the right and good advice...
    As I have seen many hours of tutorials already this one was special and got me on a point none of the others did.
    seen it more than once now and will surely see it again before I get back in the water, being from belgium is to cold now to get out there...
    keep on the good (and funny) work and enjoy this great sport

Both knees replaced, he was limping and walking slow. But once he was on the water he got wings. 20years ago kites were well ... Different, least to say! So you have a great career in front. Enjoy!

    Don't use leg muscle to stand up... interesting. Usually I do submarine the board, like every time almost. Assumed it was just because I'm heavier than most, but your description makes sense. I will try this next time I try to ride and if I succeed I'll let you know. The physics seem really obvious now, warm, dry, and not being hurled through the air.

    Ok Zolty here comes a great test... My wife has been trying to water start sporadically for 3 years now... obviously I am not as good a teacher as you! We are going to try later today using your method. Fingers crossed. If it doesn't work I'm sending her your way in Costa Rica! Saludos. I will post again later to advise.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  2 роки тому

      Yoo I am excited! Just keep the pace slow. Try different strength power strokes first without the board then really follow those just stand up sit down steps for a good 10times before committing to a longer ride. She will be there! Let me know! Btw I am not yet in Costa Rica, first Brasil and now lake Como! Just before you get her on the post office 😅🤙🤙

    This is the one and only Waterstart video any new kite surfer needs to see. I can say this from 1st hand experience having started in Egypt in Sept.
    Now, I have mastered the dark are of the waterstart. My problem however, being a long time windsurfer, is feeling the board. Getting the right amound of edge is something I am really struggling with. Either I edge so hard that I go nowhere fast or I am zooming of downwind at unbelivable speed. Trying to find the middle ground - well f*** me I am at a loss.
    Should I perhaps try a larger / different board? Any tips are welcome.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks, Winkley! SHortly - despite what it looks like for you, your problem isn't the board. If you are able to create just enough power then with a bit of a balance, and body swing you up and riding. When you zoom downwind with the light of speed you used way too much power - obviously. i just run a free lesson section on my other video, go ahead apply, and I lead your through in detail!

    Thanks for this video. Still trying to get the right leg position

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Santiago! MY best advice to you is not to overstress the leg position - if you talking about the position after standing up. THat stretched leg is a subtle change. it is way more important to get the power of the kite correctly 10 out of 10 times. Most of my studs tend to over do this leg thing and that is absolutely unnecessary (just like overdo the leaning back or other stuff) Get up 10 times in a row. And after that (all your muscle mem is built up well) in your mind focus on your leg to extend it like 10% more. That will do the job!
      Keep us updated!

    Very good - and funny ! Can you please make a video on the next steps , like what is to be done (and when) in order to go at least a bit upwind! I always struggle w/ ... what's next when I am gliding and the beach is coming closer/ kite is loosing power ... so what do I need to do from planing downwind to turn to cross- or upwind? Thks so much!
