    Zolty, this is literally the best thought out explanaiton for upwind i've ever seen: simple, effective, understandable, easily reproducable at home. Seriously this is the best lesson one can get unless going for proper in person lesson with an actual good instructor. I know my instructions are great and effective, but i'll steal some of these lines, as seriously it couldn't be explained better.
    Well Done.

    For quite awhile I was spending more time walking up the beach than on the water. One thing I realized is that I am traveling downwind the most when I crash and lose my board. As I am trying to get back to the board, both the board and myself are drifting downwind. I am doing better going upwind at mild wind speeds now, I'll have to try sheeting and moving the kite more when I start losing momentum because I'm angled so far upwind.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  Рік тому

      From that few line that you have written, I got the idea that your upwindbodydrag need some skill update. In lessons, if we doing good, at the bodydrag level - my students have to walk very little. With upwindbodydrag you should be able not lose ground!

    great video. I am a beginner of kitesurfing. My trouble is to turn kite up to keep it at 45 degree angle after diving the kite first to waterstart. I pointed my board downwind, somehow the kite would not go up no mater how I turned it, it stayed at the edge of the wind window and then dropped into the water due to lack of wind power at the edge of the wind window. please advise.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  16 днів тому

      HEy Seheltontian! Thanks for your question! For me it sounds like can be two cases. Maybe oyur kite control is not yet at the phase where you will nail waterstart easily. I would parcitce the move without the board for a 30 minutes before giving you the board. Can you make a powerdive like this stable? Can you make a double one - like 12-10-11-10 sequence. Can you make a triple? Can you make more power by steering harder ? can you go back to less power by steering slower? making sure you not hanging on the bar. Often we tend to pull right to send the kite back up but we dont realize we pull the left evenly strong. This is a sign of being a bit timid , so that bodydragging exercise just moving the kite will ease this feeling and you feel more confident - so the waterstart will be good too.
      An other case can be that after standing up you following the kite with your board so much that this causes the tension disappear. Once you are up you need to edge slightly, and with that you create line tension so the kite listenes to you - and it will turn. Small tip - on the way up when the kite goes , if you lean back more and you let the bar out like 10 cm the kite will go up much quicker.
      If all this is already in your pocket, and you are confident that you should be able to do all this - then your bar is out of trim and that causes the trouble- I have a video about line lengths where i explain how to do it and all.
      Generally from your level to upwind you dont need more than 1, maybe two lessons. You find me on lake como in case you fance to have a session with us! Hope this helps in some ways mate! Cheers!

    • @sheltontian4972
      @sheltontian4972 16 днів тому +1

      @@EpicGust Thank you very much for your advise. I wish I could go to Lake Como to take lesson with you. I am far far away. Based upon your advise, I think that I dived the kite too hard and too low, it was at the edge of the wind window where wind is the weakest, second, I pointed my board to downwind too much so that I lost the line tension. I need more practice to find that balance.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  15 днів тому

      Ok so now i am sure you stand up with way too mich power. Use less agressive dive and roll up. Once up on the board bring the kite up and repeat the move while gradually leaning back more as the speed builds in. Watch my waterstart video - all in there that you need to do step by step!!! And let me know how it worked! You not yet want to ride upwind but focus on creating gentle tension by leaning back!! You will get it in no time!

    • @sheltontian4972
      @sheltontian4972 15 днів тому

      @@EpicGust I was able to ride for about a hundred yard, stop, and turn around from time to time, but not consistently because of the problems I described above. Also I have more trouble going right than going left. Thanks again. I will report back to you when I make any progress using your advise.

    • @EpicGust

      @teamjesus1311 Рік тому

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  Рік тому +2

      @@teamjesus1311 there is always a reason, we might just not yet seeing it. Sounds like you do the right thing, but
      1. too late - when the power goes down already. You need to start edging AS the speed builds.
      2. you are too slow - go downwind - like a snowboarder goes downhill. a certain speed is necessarry to make this work!
      3. maybe you let the bar out? so basically follow the steps in the video and you will be good mate!
