I'm coming in late to the party, but have you considered using Speckled Crawlers from The Other Side (by Wyrd miniatures) for your Depth Horrors? If you can find the Gibbering Hordes starter box, then you can get 18 of the suckers for pretty cheap (plus a Siren proxy and 9x "Karkinoi" that would fit as Wyrmriders). That's what I did for mine. :)
I'm glad you came in late because that's an excellent suggestion! I was really only familiar with their Malifaux range, but that Gibbering Hordes box is a great choice and great value. I can't believe just how perfect those models are.
Three giants! That's a lot of tough stuff in one list! And maybe I just placoderms to unlock, then it's only def6 phalanx or def5 ensnare to choose from, muahaha. Also, thanks! Quite proud of the way my army came up and Dan always does exceptional work.
I'm new to the game, I love the trident realm theme. Leads into my question where can I find some good proxies for the placoderms? I couldn't seem to find any models for them.
Well I went with Salamander Primes from the Kings of War range, and put some spears through their hands and made some tail fins. Probably don't need to go to that much effort though, I just wanted to represent the phalanx rule.
Great report! though brings back some bitter memories of all those failed headstrong rolls! 😭. My halflings shall return to destroy your fishfolk and make some tasty clam chowder!
I think I would struggle to use them well. Height 4 defense 4 makes them ultra easy targets for all kinds of shooting, and there's no chaff in Trident Realms that will hide them. And for that you just get 18 melee 3+ crushing strength 1 attacks... They really need an item like Brew of Strength to get damage in, but then they're just so expensive. I think the hardest part is even though they are fast, at speed 8 there's a lot that will outrange them. So ultimately as I become a better player I might look at them, but right now it would be a bad idea 😅
I got some 3d printed frogs which i made into dambusters and they are definitely a good damage output unit, the gigas i also like as good for damage but i think its the monsters and titans for TR that are the best damage dealers so trying to get as many in the army as you can is best
Yes I really should go try some Dambusters, even by proxy to start. They are certainly a good source of damage. The Giant I find is good, but the Kraken can take a long time to get through even simple units, as he did in this game. A second giant perhaps... when I can be bothered converting another! But Dambusters would be good, and if Mantic were to make a kit of them to buy, I would be down for that instantly. How do you find Depth Horrors? They are quite commonly taken but the Def 3 leaves little room for mistakes.
@@CaffeinatedWarlord i got some 3d printed depth horrors, enough for 3 hordes, i really liked them at first but then i faced a few shooty heavy armies i don't like them so much any more lol I still they they are good but i need to learn to use them in moderation, maybe just the 1 horde is best and hide behind other units like the dambusters or gigas. Also i really like the kraken, i use 2 and i have found they did really well at surviving and killing

I don't doubt it! Just need some 3+ on your Headstrongs at least once per game!

Dambusters are plastic now, have you bought a box or two? I have invested in 5 ambush boxes of Riverguard, so see how that goes.
I've bought two boxes! Maybe I'll do an unboxing and assembly video 🤔 I am excited to use more riverguard units in my TR
