- BluGuitar's new flagship, the AMPX, has been in the making for quite a while. We showcased a study of this brand new concept that combines all analog amplifiers and pedals, with additional digital effects and speaker simulations all in one box at NAMM in 2020. As it's fully digitally controlled, AMPX can be updated and is fully programmable.
Since that study, we have gone through several development stages and prototypes. At the beginning of this year, we announced our launch for 25 July. The project is going strong, but at this time, we must admit that the project remains ongoing, and we are not able to deliver the final product as planned.
We embarked on an incredible journey of development and prototyping, refining the AMPX to perfection. Now, we can't wait to share the latest results of our relentless efforts with you. We will show you our new delays, Wah-Wah, Phaser plus the my AMPX website to perform updates and more...

Holy crap a gear designer with Honor and integrity!😱 Look closely folks Thomas Blug is a rare breed! This is how ALL gear should be released to the public!
Take your time guys! It will be worth the wait!
I've finished watching this morning and wanna thank you guys for all the effort. Can't wait for this thing.
Your honesty is refreshing and I appreciate the fact that you want it RIGHT the first time. Looking forward to buying the AMP X once it's finally ready! Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for the update guys! Much respect for the huge integrity 🙏
I'll wait as long as it takes😊
Thank you for understanding!
I'm so glad Thomas and company decided to hold off on the release. You could tell they were in the pocket last year, but not up to their expectation. They're definitely getting closer and I'm even more excited!
Yeah, I’ll admit Thomas blug is one of my all-time favorite guitar players that being said, I am more interested now in Amp x then ever, because, anybody that’s willing to push the date out and continue working and do the research to get something right? It just makes me want it that much more. Keep up the good work, Thomas, you and your crew. We are out here patiently waiting, knowing that you will deliver a top-notch product and you’re not willing to sacrifice any area.
No matter how long we will wait, anything I've already heard out of AMPX is just amazing!!!
Thank you so much!!
Your are about to release something unique on the market, thank you for your commitment on the analog single path. All the best!
Thanks!!!
Herzlichst
Angelina (ausem Saarland)
Epic playing!!! Epic product!!!
I just watched videos from NAMM, and now this one. Thomas, you and your team are awesome. We KNOW it will be worth waiting for. So fantastic to hear you two discussing the process of changing engines and lost functions, and working back to functionality - so cool to see things still need to be done due to your meticulous perfectionist nature - (Rehearsal was spelled incorrectly) and you will work out all the bugs and errors. Also make the X-WING for left and right side, for people that like their wha and expression/volume on left side of board - I'm excited to own one
Thank you so much for your feedback!!!
I will take my time…
Can't wait to play one. The real attraction for me is the comments from people that have an Amp1, and love it.
Hello Thomas and Julian,
Don’t worry take your time it’s a wonderful project with a lot of difficult things, but we are patient and it will be worth at the end because you have the passion and the ambition to do the things right for us. So don’t apologize we will wait and I’m sure this thing will kick some ***** !!
Thank you so much for your feedback!!!
It's gonna be worth the wait!
Thomas, you’re an intelligent and motivated individual and I trust that when you say it’s ready, then it’s ready. At least you’re not selling them knowing they are not complete and ready for the big stage as some companies do.
Also, it’s nice to see how real and transparent you guys are with the development and your demonstration. Wish everyone gave progress updates like this.
Transparency is key whatever you do…!
I'll buy one of these. I just bought one of your Silver Mercury 1s and love it. Like you, Tom - I'm an old school rocker. Classic.
Yep, real good old tones… for us…;-)
Thomas your guitar/AmpX intro was epic! 😁👏👏👏☝
Thanks! 😃
@@BluGuitar 👍Welcome.
This video got me to get on that waiting list. This is amazing.
It will take it’s time, but it’s worth the wait!!!
Take your time, I want to see this out perform everything on the market. Meantime, I’m going to go look for that X shirt in a XXL ;)
It’s some point I will reassemble my main guitar rig in its totality, but for the past year or so since I got the Amp1 Iridium, I’ve been traveling that with the Remote1 into a 120W Cannabis Rex speaker everywhere I go. It sounds unbelievable.
The only drawback if you can count that compared to my usual rocktron 300V power amp & a Fabtone distortion, the low frequency the bass coming from the guitar much more intense than with the 100W Iridium (but a no-brainer to figure out). That said, no low end flub when I use the Iridium 🤘😎🥸
When I can turn back up to stage volume I will amalgamate the set ups & send you a sample of the rig & sound.
AmpX, here we come!!!!!🎉
quality above all, that's the spirit to respect customers.
no perpetual beta
Thank you so much for watching this episode on where we are with our most complex project ever: AMPX!
It’s always great to have Julian with me when we dive in complicated topics… We’ll keep you posted on
the things as they are on it’s way.
Everything we do now is beneficial for the product…!
Cheers, Thomas
I’ve also toured a lot with every tube amp you can think of all of the latest and greatest Pedals and pedalboards .now just travel around with 2 eleven racks one for a back up and go direct ,I’m done with carrying all this equipment so I’m hoping this amp X is going to be fantastic using it direct ,Our sound system is beyond out of this world and I’m letting it carry the heavy load. I have such a fantastic sound man ,. I’m done with it I’ve been playing direct for a while,. Everybody loves my tone everywhere so I think this amp x might be the next biggest thing. Technology is moving too fast ,I get it ,I love tube amps, but the cost of travel and recording and convenience and technology. It just is what it is for me.can’t wait to hear amp x
Wie sagt man so schön?
Gut Ding braucht Weile.
Klar warten alle da drauf, aber du bist ja Perfektionist, was ich positiv meine😎
Vielen Dank für das Verständnis!!!
I watched this live and it was really impressive! The intro (1:47) was a really good, and a great choice to show off the sounds. The preset sound Thomas used for the intro song and where he revisits it at 2:09:00 is a wonderful sound. Jimi Hendrix preset and the whole lot sounded unbelievably good! Im a big Philip Sayce fan and I think this preset is so close to his sound. The (analogue) Wah seems to work great, and I can’t believe how good the (digital) vibe sounded. Altogether it just worked so well. Im really impressed with the whole signal chain sound for this preset, which in my experience can sometimes be difficult to achieve without using normal pedals and tube amps - so well done. I am very excited for this.
One Question @BluGuitar : Did this preset also have a fuzz in the drive slot? At the end of this example (around 2:10:45), it sounds nice and flubby like a fuzz pedal.
Would you be able to advise all the boosts/drive/fx/amp/fx/cabs used in this preset?
There was no fuzz in this preset.
Here’s what I used in that Hendrix preset:
Replex boost ( as the tube tube Replex is a replica of a tube Echoplex, the preamp is es essential to me too)
Vibe
Replex (tape echo with its on/off switch assigned to the last footswitch on the right)
Amp: Mercury vintage
DD2 delay (very lo volume)
Mercury reverb
Stack 1970
Thanks Thomas. Great organic sounds. Really exciting to hear it coming together. Can’t wait to get one.
I cannot wait for it to come out…my hope is that there will be Splawn Quick Rod blugprint at some point ;)
Wow, was für ein Sound !!!!!
Danke!
Thomas - go on!!!
I want one!!
I´m on minute 30 and I heard all the stuff I need. So I´m ready for it... for me no further adjustmenst are needed 😃😃
;-)
Hey, It's better to get it right than to rush it and ship it out. By postponing the release date shows you have integrity about your new product and assuring QA/QC. Looking forward to buying your AmpX when its released!
🎉...AC/DC schreibt man in 🇩🇪 anders 😅
Short question to the input module mentioned around the 1:39:15 mark: can the settings of this input module also be adjusted and saved per patch? My Roland GT-100 annoys me because the input setting is global and not per patch. Thank you!
It can be stored per preset/patch
Great intro song! Could you please describe the signal path that you used in the stream? So which output of the AmpX went to where and was the BluBox inside the AmpX used? Thanks for the great update! Unfortunately now I really want an AmpX although my AMP1 ME is more than enough for me already! 😂
Basically I tried to recreate my current AMP1 pedalboard with all my effects on it.
My Strat was plugged directly plugged into AMPX and I was going directly to the mixer for the stream and the studio monitors.
Inside AMPX I used:
Wah
Boost (Replex tube stage)
Replex (tape echo)
AMP1 Mercury Vintage channel
DD2 delay
Reverb (Mercury style)
BluBOX (stack 1970)
@@BluGuitar Thank you so much for your quick and detailed response! 👍🏻
Can you program the switchs to have just effects pedals and the amp indipentent? Can you assign more than 1 effect to a swith like 2 modulations or delay ecc? And Can you disengage the amp and use it like a pedalboard? Thanks
You can assign switches to have just effects.
I like the idea of 2 or more effects on a switch as well… not implemented yet, but… ;-) I like!
At this point we didn’t create a “no amp”.
Maybe we’ll do. Can’t promise, but worth some thoughts!!! Thank you so much for your input!!!
I am really interested in AmpX but I would like to point one thing out.
The only thing that really interests me (and probably others) about this unit is the amp modelling. The only thing we have not yet seen is any amp modelling(amp1 models don't count)... Please give us anything, even a breadboarded proof of concept that models a real amp will do, just some taste of what that thing will be capable of. It is really weird that all the news about an amp modeller are about anything but amp modelling.
Best regards
We can show that A/B modeling process in a future episode as we will do a lot of this in the near future…
😊
This is exactly the boat I’m in as well. Don’t care for the pedals or existing amp1 models. I want to see AMPX doing a matchless or a Friedman , etc. that’s the ultimate proof
This looks fantastic. Will the Power Soak feature be built in with the ability to use Headphones? Achieving max saturation tones with headphones?
Yes! It’s called Powerdrive in AMPX
@@BluGuitar wow! So effectively delivering the capabilities of a real tube amp hooked to to a UA OX? With cabinet switching etc? If that’s the case I’m ordering one!
Awesome intro jam !!
Having internal slots for swappable pedal electronic cards with the analog circuit of overdrive classics (bluesbreaker, rat, muff, fuzzes) that would be licensed : good or not so good idea ?
Like one user interface with exchangeable standardised pedal circuit cards. Food for thoughts. :)
I did that back in the 1980’s using a pcb card with 4 sides as 4 options.
Problem : all the contacts for the card need to be perfect…
With AMPX it’s next generation:
1 circuitry that is so flexible that it can do even more options- this is more reliable as there are no physical contacts and more flexible when you are doing it right (that’s why AMPX takes so long) And it’s fully programmable with your settings too…
;-)
…no one has done this to that extent before!
@@BluGuitar This is amazing!! The way you are rethinking the signal path and the gear, it was really needed. Wish you great success and take the time.
"Thomas, if you play nobody can hear me talk" - Genau das höre ich jede Woche im Proberaum 🙂
Genau!!!
Also sehr klar offen, ein bisschen Hifi mäßig?
I still wonder if the AmpX will be like the amp1 : if plugged into a real cab it will offer a better sound because of the real cab load.
As I plan to be using it exclusively in a studio or directly in mixing table, not sure it will sound as good as in your UA-cam demos
We’ll do demos on that topic when we finalize the recording output…
Hallo Thomas ! Ein tolles innovatives Gerät ! Bravo !
Your street lamp analogy excellent; Wisdom between words. Pressure can be good, but if you are working beyond your capacity what’s the point? A person should know their limits. Work & working offers it’s own rewards, which none may ever take away, even if goals do not get reached (doubtless you all can see the endgame by now) #perspective 😎🤘🤙
Thanks for understanding!!!
Hallo Thomas, Grüsse aus South Carolina, US.
Hab gerade tap Tempo implementiert
It would be cool to see how we can design our own amps.
I'm half way through the video, maybe it's shown later in the video.
We are creating the amps and effects for you. These will be available as BlugPrints on our my AMPX website…
Why isn’t is public?
Many reasons:
-way to complicated
-you could create sounds that could destroy the unit
-we will invite professional co-laborators
@@BluGuitar ok thanks for the reply!
does this come with an IR loader? My appologies for the question, i havent had a chance to watch the video yet, a good friend told me to check these out
AMPX does 5 IR loaders at the same time...
Danke!
Im on the Sweetwater wait-list!..One thing that im still confused is if Amp X will send a stereo signal and power two cabs?
AMPX will send a stereo signal to the PA and will have 1 poweramp to feed a cab. For stereo you will need a separate poweramp to feed the 2nd cab.
#timepoint 1:47:00
*YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE x5 OUTPUT with the BLUE BOX per output! YES!!! I can do my WET/DRY/WET and my stereo mix to a different source!*
A devise like this will need a five year guarantee to make the potential purchase price worth the risk of ‘all eggs in one basket’.
Hope you eventually get it to market.
5 year warranty? Never going to happen 😂
I'm thinking that once it's released, it'll be another five years waiting to get the tube amps I want.
We’ll see!?!?!!
It will take still another year before this unit will be on the market, it take so much time, maybe it is too complex to finalize? It started in 2021 right?
It already started in 2018…
Went public in 2020 - now we are about to finalize
Is there a new release time? Would love to get one of these. Waiting list? I know it will be worth the wait...but I have cancer so the wait might be too late,,,,,I hope not!!!!!!!!!!!
Waiting list is on our website…
which Reverb pedal is close to the Reverb of amp 1 iridium
Good question! I have not tried that in A/B yet.
Basic direction should be plate reverb
I’m going to say something - I adore Thomas - and his idea of this amp ! I’m a fractal / helix and Neural user
It’s going to take time to get this right !
I expect it will sound fabulous - but you have to compare with the competition
Take as long as you want to get this right ! Good luck
I remember I was an early adopter of fractal in the Uk one of the first few and it took a long time to get the early release right !
❤
New technologies need to be explored to get things right… that’s why it takes so much longer then planed.
"Thomas, nobody can hear me, when you are playing!" 🤣
;-) Julian education!!!! Love it!!!
Like an old couple ;-)
Greetings, Thomas
*WE NEED AN ADDITIONAL (((( EFFECTS LOOP in mono )))) between the AMP and the WAH! So we can insert our own effects processors B4 the AMP but after the WAH!*
No way… it wo As this would kill our tonal integrity …
We thought of it
Still talking about this amp...when is it coming already?
We’ll talk about it as we get it finished and released. It’s a rather smooth process with us. You’ll see it with me on stage soon, then with other’s then being shipped to customers…
We have a ramp up plan…
If the direct out sound from this is shite, it will be a complete failure as far as I'm concerned.
I don't want to buy this, then find out the direct out sounds terrible (like the Iridium and the Mercury), then have to buy a load box too so I can actually get a good tone to record with.
So what are the direct out plans? Can third party IRs be loaded into the device?
First there’s the option for 3rd party IRs, then we have 5 our BluBOXes with even new dynamic feature inside… I’m not worried about the direct sound at all!
@@BluGuitar Ok. Will the IRs be truncated...? What is the maximum length of IR that is allowed...?
I'm sure you understand that IR length makes a difference.
Thanks.
You are not known for building amp heads, but I really hope there will be a head version of this.
I don't want to stomp on a 2k€ device. I want my foot controller separate from the amp. If a footswitch breaks on stage, I don't want to get the whole amp repaired, I want to quickly plug in another foot controller (even if that isn't likely to happen). I don't want anybody to pour his drink over my amplifier in a live situation, I want my amp safe behind me, looking good.
I hear you… ;-)
guys .. no worries .. better to prove and test it carefully before you release it and then the customers will complain .. all good 👍
Thanks for understanding!
I appreciate that you guys want to get this right before release. I’m happy with my Amp1ME with the HX effects for now but look forward to the AmpX. Here is a clip from a live show last week. You can see the Nanocab behind me which does an incredible job for its size. ua-cam.com/video/EXfPg_TBJYo/v-deo.html
In English the word is "Rehearsal", not "Rehersal". If you would like someone to proof read anything I'm happy to assist, I love my Iridium and want the X to be amazing! :)
Thank you for the correct spelling!
Bucket brigade 😉
Also Thomas, langsam wird es Zeit. :)
Blugies United! Tom and Elon Musk are launching X 🛸🚀

*WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT SPRING REVERB IS REAL!*
Maybe I'll take another gander at acquiring another real tube amp. The ones I have so far don't do justice for my es335 clone. I'd rather spend my money more wisely on an archtop. Few amps ever made do justice to an es335, especially at scalable modern low volumes.
Interesting topic too. I love my ESS 335…
1:09:00 very humble
Well, that’s the reality …!
The real 600 gorilla in the room is creating beautiful tube amp tones that emulate pushing large volumes of air at low volumes. Effects are no substitute for me for volume. Maybe delay and reverb would go a long way, however, in actually emulating the effect of loud volume if I could get more dynamic control of such. In the old days, nobody but surf rockers used delay when they turned their amps to 10 because it sounded horrible. But at low volumes reverb and delay sound nice, if they could just be controled by a guitarist like the pedals on a piano X 100.
Volume is a physical experience!
That’s also part of my amps…
Besides the other things like dynamics and whistles and bells… ;-)
*So what are yall saying????????????????? If we put pedals or a rack, in the front input, the amp x tone will suck???* #timepoint 1:58:00
No, what we are saying is: pedals in front of AMPX have their own input impedance and that will affect the tone in interaction with the guitar-as it should! Just make sure these are true bypass, so AMPX can still change it’s input impedance to match with the internal pedals and their matching impedance.
And Julian’s comment about the noise gate:
If the pedals in front of the AMPX are so noisy that the internal gate can’t trigger properly…
So no worries: AMPX will handle external pedals and effects like a charm. We “ Germans” sometimes over problematic our discussions… ;-)
I work for a company that develops innovative instrumentation in the biotech space. Nothing frustrates me more than when we RUSH something to market. It makes supporting those instruments a nightmare. So...take your time boys...make it right before the launch!
Thank you so much for understanding!
Only experienced do understand the real stuff! Greetings, Thomas
....das ganze auch auf Deutsch wär perfekt
Würde ich auch gerne machen…
Das bedeutet aber alles zwei mal drehen…
Dafür fehlt die Zeit. ;-)
There are plenty of Veruca Salt’s in the world who want what they want when they want it now. Good things for the patient.
I think Amp X will not ever get ready. What you think?
It will! Daily progress… ;-)
Greetings, Thomas
I freaking love the amp 1 and I'm super excited about amp x, and i get it takes time and all. But these updates are just unbearable to watch for me, I'm sorry too much chaos 😢 and i guess i do not know more after the stream than before because its all just random information, and skipping around from one thing to another.
…the AMPX project is so complicated that it’s hard to follow all the different sides and steps. I understand that it’s confusing.
The good thing about AMP1 is that it is so much simpler! Enjoy yours😊!!
Hey give us just preamp+amp. Forget that DSP.
We need that DSP anyway for the preamp, so it’s best to get both sides together.
All this in German would not be bad.
Hey, Thomas. As a 🇩🇪 think ich, how schade es ist, dass ich Deine (oft interessanten) Beiträge nur mit einem weinenden Auge sehen kann, because my scool english reicht zwar, aber Deines klingt auch so, wie ein Tourist seine Liege reserviert "....who first come paint at first...". Not for ungut😊. I finde eben, eine deutsche Folge wäre nett.
So long - so lange

@@BluGuitar ...viel Erfolg.
The barely tapped acoustic emulation market is maybe as big as the vintage amp emulation and fx market. Emulation of expensive acoustic and semi-acoustic guitars is complex without end. Even real acoustic guitars are difficult to amplify without loosing tone quality. Seems like nobody's seriously working on getting past the brick walls that digital acoustic emulators have come up against.
That is possible on AMPX, but comes later…
1 step after the other
I find the user interface not well thought out. Cheap modellers like mooer or donner do better with the horizontal fx button layout. A good multifx should be fully programmable without a phone or computer right away on stage.
Everything sound and effects is directly accessible. Only making complex setup changes need to be done via the system menus
Every company has its own eco system and once you wrap your head around it it becomes much easier just like fractal was for me. This will be exactly the same.
@@r.llynch4124 Sure you can learn to use any ecosystem, but a bad one can limit the experience. For example I hate my Fractal pedal for that, and find the above mentioned ones almost perfect (of course not how they sound). Menus and submenus are the worst scenario - what you see is what you get works always. I hope Thomas @BluGuitar thinks about it and makes not only the sound but the UI also perfect. As he stated many times he's a perfectionist, so there's hope.
Hey guys .. your approach was always "KIS" .. Keep it simple .. that's obviously gone !
We’ll it’s gone if you just need an amp.
But AMPX is simple compared to a complex pedalboard, just think of 13 elements in the signal path:
gate/tuner
Wah
Boost
Drive
Special
Modulation
Delay
Reverb
AMP
Modulation
Delay
Reverb
Speaker simulation
Just imagine to wire all of this ;-)
AMPX is all of this and programmable.
-> but: you are totally right:
If you are a straight forward player you wouldn’t need that, and then you are better off with an AMP1 …!!!!
So I agree, depending on the point of view
What you are doing deserves the greatest respect! This enthusiasm is impressive. Nevertheless, if you miss your goals in the long run, you will eventually lose credibility. It's a noble goal to want to create an "egg-laying wool-milk-sow", but it's apparently not realistic. Most potential customers would very likely also buy a "wool sow", which perhaps only later learns to "lay eggs".
But even more decisive is what could be read elsewhere in the comments. Your concept has always been "keep it simple" and that seems to have changed. The results may sound great, but getting there and especially how to get there is way too complex and way too cumbersome!
We live in 2023, AI is changing the world right now. But your operating concept is from the last century. It will certainly take months, if not years, to learn how to use the device as you did in the demonstration. That has little to do with intuitive operation. All the small switches and buttons with double and triple assignment and the completely unacceptable mini display. The fun is quickly lost. Why not a few more DIP switches? I'm sorry, but this is out of time and you have to fear that it might fail because of that. Quite apart from all the economic aspects.
The interface is rather analog then digital. That is what most players are familiar with:
Direct access for the most important parameters , then 4 direct access knobs (x-controls) for the active effect. That is what needed 99% in my opinion.
Okay there are other concepts like Neural‘s , that I consider great too, but that a complete different approach…
I could care less about effects. It's tube amps I'm after. I dislike the idea that modern audiences want to hear people playing effects. If I can't control effects with my fingers like I control strings, I lose dynamics. Many things about amp tone and sound can be controlled and varied, unlike effects, which are more on or off.
Agreed
Polish this guitar
Maybe - maybe not .. ;-)
@@BluGuitar dirt , and old greasy, not is magic for instrument , it just suffocates sound 👍
haha maybe in 10 years and then youre good new tech wil be to old hahaha
Maybe-maybe not … ha ha ha…. ;-)
TIME TO CLEAN THAT STRATOCASTER! You know how to work with electronics. Pull off everything on that guitar body, clean it, and put it back just as it was; BUT FIRST CLEAN YOUR GUITAR! Even better would be to refinish it. Your guitar is looking like a dirty urinal in a public bathroom in the USA. Which is really bad. I'm sure that with your skill, you could make that guitar sound just as good when it is clean. Your playing and tone are amazing. The Amp X will be great.
Cleaning is one thing but refinishing? It's a 1961 Strat. Refinishing would be a terrible idea!
I own and play that 1961 Strat since I was 17. Cleaned it all my life, but lately I didn’t do it anymore… I somehow like it… it’s strange, but… maybe it keeps others from wanting it?!?? ;-)
@@tonystartup3817 If one loves the instrument and has no desire to sell it, why not have it refinished? The value of the guitar is in the sound and feel of it. Only when it is to be sold does money enter into the situation. Since he seems to keep guitars forever, why not refinish it?
@@BluGuitar Your reply is very funny, and has some logic to it.
I owned a 1982 Stratocaster for 22 years before it was sold. Other than a small dent, it looked almost new when it was sold. Looking at it closely, one could see that the gold lettering on the knobs had turned green, some frets were worn, and the paint had some checking. The color had gotten a little darker, but it was uniformly so. Any instrument can look new forever if it receives the right care. I hope nobody ever steals any of your guitars or gear.
Do we have a price yet ? How does it compare price wise to Axefx and Cortex ?
It’s 2000€ or US-Dollar - mind : analog technology meets digital techchnology plus a poweramp built in…
Is there an editor ? Pc / mac ?
No, we’ll do something on a special website in the future, but only for arranging presets.
(Not Programming of presets)
Amp X: the piece of gear that no one will ever see but that's the best ever made. 😂
We’ll see… lol
@@BluGuitar We are ready for the Version 2.0 in the 2028👍
