  • In this video I show how to splice a steel cord reinforced timing belt. The video is part of a larger project that uses a 12' linear slide that I assembled from two slides one 8 foot and one 4 foot and spliced the two drive belts together.

That is awesome! I will use the same method. I’m wondering if I could use some pins instead of screws and put a bit of glue so the pins don’t slide out.

If you do I would rough up the surface or groove them to assist the glue bond.

Hi. Last year we started making this kind of connection in our company in Poland but in more professional way. I was responsible for this project. Our technology was based on italian EMF system. We are using pins instead of screws. You are very creative, great video!

Pozdrawiam.

Instead of screws, all you need to do is press BRADS through..... we do it on multi-million dollar machines. Also your "tails should be a little longer" Probably a 1/3rd to 1/2. (Okay, now that I've played Mr. Smarty pants, and FYI, we take a brass, teenie tiny rod, and cut it, and give it a point to start, then press them in with Channel locks. FYI, your splice wouldn't go around a pulley with sides. but GOOD JOB, don't take my criticism wrong.) What I want, is a "drill guide" made up, to place my "tails" into, that of course aligns the belt, clamps and holds it, and then a hand drill, will follow straight through. You use a Bridgeport, I want to do it using an idiot and a hand drill, but keep those holes within the select area.

I am not sure what you are asking. The pins in the splice are small screws 4-40 or 5-40 , the pins used to line up the teeth are dowel pins or spring pins.
