You are a life saver. I needed a very specific length of belt and with quarantine right now, ordering the custom loop would have taken forever. I found that when I tried the diagonal cut, the belt would slightly skew under tension, but with a tongue-and-groove cut instead, it had better results. Thank you!
Some ideas for improvement: Design the joining jig with holes on the backside so that it guides the pins when pinching the holes in the belt. When you insert the pins they protrude through the same holes, no need for taking the belt out of the jig. This should lower the risk for misalignment. Use some glue (CA? ) to reinforce the jig
Absolutely great. You might also try to make the hole before cutting in diagonal the belt. Then after your cut, you're just going back where you already past. Just a suggestion!
since you have such long pins, reprint the jig with a block that goes on TOP with deep holes that can guide the pins perpendicular to the belt face to help with alignment, also numerous smaller pins might help with the force as it prevents the ripping of the rubber as you force the pins through
Just a suggestion...use a "smaller diameter pin" when making holes - then use larger pins (that will follow holes). OR just use smaller diameter "pins" and use them! YOU NEED to be careful with a sturdy jig - to ensure your holes are straight. Might evem "consider heating your pins", before making holes ?
hello my friend, I really liked your video, it helped me a lot in my situation, I will try to do what you did on the belt that I have here, thank you for your content now!
Thanks for sharing! How's the splice holding up? I was wondering using a range of adhesives alone and with the pins. Reads like for the Singer 758, a gentleman has spliced using a similar method though bending the pins and not cutting since they came apart when cut flush and not bent and cut.
those belts, are they very soft as in good enough and flexable for diy model track builds. I build micro rc stuff and finding the right track material is difficult

Neat video. What is the strength of this splice compared to a pre-fabricated closed loop? Could you pull it apart by hand?
And what do you do when yours break and the fastest you can get them is five days... While you have an order waiting that has to be fulfilled in 2? This is a lifesaver when you can't get new belts.
I'm not trying to be mean, but this is disgracefully amateurish. It's concerning that this was one of the first search results for timing belt joining. If I caught one of my technicians doing this, Lord help them...
Thanks, Dennis, for showing the worst side of the internet. I see you call yourself Younger. Perhaps you’ll be more positive when you are Dennis Older. Fingers crossed.

Why not just use transparent acrylic for the guides?

Thank you Kim Younghwan-si, I was able to study your video carefully and make a successful belt. I grateful for your teaching!

Looks good, not sure about those pins,@ 6000 rpms. so I'll leave them out thanks. Cool Video
seems like a lot of RPMs for such a flimsy belt
Very clever. Glad it worked for you. Cheers, JAYTEE

meanwhile i cant even poke a bamboo stick through a sausage, nice vids
That's pretty impressive
VERY ingenious
q: why did you leave the heads of the nails in?
Can you please show me more for this
when you need a jig to fix your belt, but you need your belt to print the jig
use glue as intermediary belt-joiner xD

Was needed smaller diameter nails. More like 0.5 mm shue nails...
Very ingenuous. Thank you.
They did surgery on a timing belt
I shall try adding holes on the other side 😀
Thank you. You saved my day... :)
I can't find any one who sells the gt2 jigs, where did you get them or did you 3D print them yourself?
The later, printed one. just a trial..

Robin Keskisärkkä Not very strong. Approx 4-5 kgf? I can sure it's more than 3kgf.

Where did you get the 0.75 mm nails?
Look like straight pins for sewing
Just what ı need thank you !!
how to make a jig
Where do you get the jig from
thankyou
don't try the hard way
Ahh... Nothing like getting some superglue stuck to your finger
no se ve nada
lol genius
So much effort to join low quality timing belts that enhance ringing and ghosting. Do yourself a favor and get quality ones ;)
And what do you do when yours break and the fastest you can get them is five days... While you have an order waiting that has to be fulfilled in 2? This is a lifesaver when you can't get new belts.
you can always use low quality belts as a quick fix... there is no excuse to throw away quality the entire time the machine runs.

Rubbish idea
Sorry for that. Propose a better solution then.
@@sohrkim I like the idea, making my own jig now, thanks for the video
