such a pleasure to have access to such a brilliant guitar and bass player, who achieves scaring similar tones, with a tremendous sound quality and an awesome scenario. I can't forget to praise your amazing shirts! Well done, as always!
I cant explain how much do i love this song, ive been obsessed with it since it came out and youre amazing for uploading such quality videos! I love this channel!
@@RedHotChiliRiffs you're doing great work sir! I am a drummer trying to learn guitar and have been pretty obsessed with JF and the peppers for as long as I can remember - watching what you do is very informative!
Thank you for this and all of the great content on this channel! Amazing to watch and I am a huge fan. Could you please describe the remainder of your signal chain (i.e., from the stereo output of the Boss CE-1 to the end)? I am curious to know how you route the signal through the Triage and to the amps. Do you use any other pedals (noise suppression anywhere)? Thank you, again!
The first output of the CE-1 goes to the Triage (ground lift) and then to the Plexi. The second output of the CE-1 goes straight to the Silver Jubilee. No noise suppressor or anything.
The MXR flanger can't be beat. I've tried some others because mine is so noisy and I'd like more range but everything else has just been dull/boring. My last thought is a BF-2, but Ive mostly accepted my MXR is here to stay. I've had it for over 10 years now. I think my noise problem might be related to the charge pump I added when I first bought it because 18v is a pain. Nowadays, I have a power supply that supports 18v so I'm not carrying around extra plugs
What is the first pedal in the chain? If it's the big muff then John uses the back to front entrance? I never figured out this sequence.. I like so much your videos. Hello from Brazil!
Hey, that CE-1 in vibrato mode... Do you think that's the same effect he uses in This Is The Place from the By The Way album? I always thought that was a chorus effect. Well.. The CE-1 is technically a chorus pedal, but is the vibrato mode a classic vibrato effect only, or a "chorus'd vibrato"?
I think it is. John is using two amps (one clean and one with vibrato) so the vibrato becomes a chorus at high rate. Chorus is basically vibrato and clean signal blended together.
@@jorge.az07 you're right.. There's a flanger going on for sure in the background, but the chords he lets ring during the verse has this wobbly sound that seems to be the CE-1 in vibrato mode m
I need your help again. I want to buy my first fuzz pedal but can’t decide between the classic Big Muff, the new Variac fuzz or even another alternative that you use in other videos. Could you give me some thoughts on which one is better or at least versatile? Thanks in advice!
If I had to choose one fuzz I would go for the MXR variac fuzz. I think it sounds more aggressive than the Big Muff. The Big Muff is really smooth sounding kinda like a distortion pedal.
@@RedHotChiliRiffs in addition, John now uses the variac for the solo of songs like Wet Sand, where the Big Muff was used in SA era. No more words neede, I'm getting the variac. Huge thanks again! :)
Because John put his MXR reverb in front of the CE-1 as well. He used to put the Holy Grail reverb after the CE-1 but since Unlimited Love he puts the reverb before the CE-1.
The reverb is just a small detail to add a little room sound. That being said reverb and delay are two very different things so you can’t replace the MXR reverb with the Line 6 DL4.
@@RedHotChiliRiffs wow thanks for the fast Reply Sir. Im starting to build my own Frusciante inspired Pedal Board. So far i got the Jackhammer, Past FX Chorus, WH10Ibanez wah, Bigg Muff, DS2 and the Line 6 DL4. I wanna add the mxr micro Amp, MXR Dyna Comp, MXR phase 90, Variac Fuzz, MXR 117 Flanger, MXR Reverb, Boss SD-1 Overdrive and the Line 6 FM4 modeler. My AMP is a Boss Katana 50. Do you think if i got all of that im oretty close to John‘s tone.? Again thanks for replying. I Love your Videos and already learned alot from them. Keep Going 🙏🏼
You’ve got a nice setup already! My advice is to go for the SD-1 next. John used it a lot on the new albums and it’s not very expensive. The Variac Fuzz is a nice one as well. I don’t think the Flanger, Phase 90, and the FM4 are very important. John uses those pedals for one or two songs only.
video is awesome, and can I just say its one thing to say John Frusciante uses this pedal and this amp, its another thing to demo the whole song and walk it through. Unlike some other shitty channels with Instagram posers (Justin Jeske) who can play a lick to save their lives or as I like to say all the gear no idea.
New subscriber here. I do a poor man’s version of your channel 😂. You legit have the correct gear dude. Awesome and impressive! 👏 I would love to see a video on how you accumulated all these gear and how long it took.
Yes and no. He does all the changes himself but there are a lot of moments in the set where he doesn’t use an effect that is on the record (and on his pedalboard). For instance, he doesn’t use the Flanger and the Dyna Comp for Black Summer when he plays it live.
You nailed it my friend. I have two questions, are the pickups in the squier stock? And how much of it all do you attribute to the jubilee/plexi. Just would be interesting to know what are the most replaceable items if that makes sense
The pickups in my Squier are not the stock pickups. I replaced them with Fender USA standard Stratocaster pickups. It’s really a sum of the parts. If you’re gonna play a shitty guitar through those pedals and amps it’s not gonna sound great. That being said I think Squiers are pretty good guitars…
@@RedHotChiliRiffs fair enough. That’s cool, I think we’re all a little jealous of your rig but also appreciative to be able to see it all in detail like that through the videos.

@@RedHotChiliRiffs Oh right Ive just saw that. Thank you very much! Also do u know why flea would use jazz bass for recording while hes mainly using bass with humbuckers like modulus or stingray on live? Just bit confusing
Because the active basses are more modern and are easier to play. He also like the more aggressive active tone for old songs like Nobody Weird Like Me. He did use his passive basses for their last performance so who knows what he will use in 2023….
Wow that intro riff and the first chords already brings nostalgia❤

It’s a combination of the flanger and the vibrato

It sounds like the CE-1 to me. I don’t think they had a Leslie speaker in the studio.

No definitely not. He’s not stepping on any pedal for that part when they’re playing Black Summer live.

U are amazing I love watching your videos I would love to see a cover of Nerve Flip by Red Hot Chili Peppers
How did you solve the volume jump on the DS-2 I'm curious about that
I never max out the volume on the DS-2 so I don’t have a volume jump when I engage it.
@@RedHotChiliRiffs Thank you for your reply I'm always enjoying it!
Why is the wh10 so late in the chain as opposed to only after the dirt pedals?
