Get On Top - Red Hot Chili Peppers (Bass and Guitar cover)

- Get On Top is a great song that really showcases the sound of the Ibanez WH-10 wah! Unfortunately the Red Hot Chili peppers never played this song live during the Californication tour. They started adding this song to the setlist occasionally since the Roll On The Red tour in 2004. Luckily there's a great live version on the "Live In Hyde Park" cd!
Thank you Arie Goossens for lending me your Modulus bass! Be sure to check out his RHCP tribute band Californicated! www.californicatedband.com

amazing as always! Next maybe quixoticelixer?
I love that song
I concur
please do this
Yes, sir
Nice to hear someone playing the wah part right. So many people don't get the skip-like thing in the rhythm. Great video!
Thanks! I noticed that too, that’s why I explained how to do it right in the beginning of the video.
OMG THE SOUND OF THAT BASS
Damn, it was a joy watching you play. Its sick how well these parts work on their own
Chad Smith Drumming is so important in these songs without it, it sounds naked 😆
But these covers sound exactly like the album version
That was unreal. The slap bridge part was spot on 🤯
Thanks! It’s my favorite part of the song!
@@RedHotChiliRiffs I personally think the 2 bass tracks on the album version is one of the closest guarded not so secret-> secrets. Just considering that there is no real UA-cam video displaying how to perform them. Would hope that maybe in a future video you could perform it.
Hope all is well with you
✌️ from Montreal!
Oh, My! Excellent!
Thanks!
Yeah! Brings back memories of the 2007 Nijmegen show! My favorite moment of that show! Spot on as always mister Baron! 🌶🔥🌶🎸🤘🏽👍🏽🔥🔥🔥
Ask and you shall receive. Thanks for getting around to this, it’s so much fun on bass!
And the perfect tone as always!
Thanks!
Great performance!
I have trouble muting the main riff with my left index finger because the harmonics on the 6th string get in the way. advice please!
I just mute the low E string with the top of my index finger and I’m not really slamming it with my pick. My focus is on the A string. This means I’m actually mainly strumming 5 strings.
what about Knock Me Down? the Shorter version! i heard the guitar track isolated and i’m almost sure that john used a les paul or an SG for the main guitar (the overdubbed takes sounds like a strat in neck pickup)
Awesome Cover, as Always!
Yes, it’s a Les Paul for sure! I’d like to do a cover of Knock Me Down!
4 songs left until full californication!!
What about demos and b sides like quixoticelixer, bunker hill, fat dance and so on?
@@stevenguitarcovers6501 well, they're demos and b-sides, and I am talking about original album. I would love to hear some though
A lot of people are asking for Quixoticelixer…
Only 3 songs left. I forgot to put This Velvet Glove in the playlist.
@@RedHotChiliRiffsyep is just Easily And Right On Time And Road Trippin’ to do and that’s the full album done
Another amazing song
Unbelievable man how perfect the transitions were, for you which is the most complicated to play: Frusciante's part or Flea's? I both see you playing with mastery, congratulations on the content and thank you very much for another top song.
I think for this song the bass part was the hardest to play. The part is not particularly complicated but it’s all about endurance. You have to play fast and aggressive all the time.
Very good 👍🏻
That Bass and that Bass playing... 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Epic! Thanks for the tip about the wah pedal movement, realized I always did it wrong
You were definitely not the only one! I’m glad I was able to help!
this is GREAT
Thanks!
Que genialidad
Another masterpiece🥂🥂🔥
Awesome ❤
amazing bro 🔥
Thanks!
Rock AM Ring version is superb!
finally! the part of wah played correctly. I remember that for a long time I watched videos and all of them were not correct, at least in my opinion. Nice done!!
Thanks! That’s why I tried to explain how to do it in the intro of the video…
helll yea spot on as always man
Thanks!
Amazing cover! Thank you so much 🙌🏼❤️
Mellowship slinky in B major next pleaseeee
YESSSS FINALLY THANK YOU MANNN
One of my favorite RHCP songs, can you do Sikamikanico next?
I love that song! There are quite a few songs that I’m gonna record first though.
Awesome, awesome, AWESOOOMME as aways!!! Amazing cover guy, thanks for this funky groove! I would like to see you play some Mother's Milk song, with some crazy Frusciante solos, like Sexy Mexican Maid (bad name nowadays) and Good Time Boys. All good for you!!!
Thank you!
Fantastisch man❤
Dank je!
greatest fucking UA-cam channel ever
*right on*
Thanks!
Fuck Yeah 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Zeer leerrijk. Vroeger had ik ook een Modulus. Ik zal het nu met een stingray moeten doen. 😅
Chili Tastic! and what am i eating soon? a Chilli! yom yom. Tasty x
Bro do you have the Lan Poor pickups on the Modulus? I've been searching for an original. Such an amazing sound. I have a blue sparkle with the Bartolinis and while it sounds pretty great, I want that Californication - By the Way Flea sound. That's the era I learned bass to.
Yeah it’s the Lane Poor Legacy pickup with the Aguilar OBP-1 preamp
Great Job!! I have some troubles understanding the bass line in the Album version, do you think is a 2 bass line? Thank you! 😊😊
It’s definitely two different bass parts on the record!
Somone or Gong Li Next?
I did the first part of Gong-Li in one of my older videos…
Solid, first
Hello,
The 2x15 is 4ohm and the 2x10 is 8 ohm..
how do you do the impedance? It's with the same amp ?
Yes, the GK800 has a 100 watt 8ohm output and a 300 watt 4ohm output.
@@RedHotChiliRiffs All right. I thought that was the solution. This Gallien Krueger is the only one who allows this. I have to get this amp! . Thanks for your response
@walnutgrovedc4169 it’s definitely my favorite amp! Sounds absolutely killer!
Can you describe your delay settings for the bridge?
I didn’t use a delay for this song. Only a wah pedal and the CE-1 preamp for the overdrive.
Got it! You're really mastering that wah...good stuff!
Yes, all the accents you’re hearing in the bridge are done by rocking the wah back and forth in that specific rhythm.
Amazing job, how do you record the bass?

For this song, John only uses his Ibanez Wh10? Or he includes the CE-1 (u know, preamp on)? Or he uses the overdrive channel of his amp?
WH-10 into the CE-1 preamp. No overdrive pedal. You can find the gear and settings I used in the description.
Bro I love you, you r the fucking best UA-camr
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
HE GOT THE MODULUS LFG I regret selling mine every time I see one
It’s not mine. I used to own a purple sparkle Modulus Flea bass from 1999 but I sold it 12 years ago….
WACKA CHACKA MF YOU GOT ME!
🤟👍
Comment number 4 of asking for CHARLIE.
I’ll play Charlie when the time is right. I focused on songs from Californication for a while ‘cause I borrowed the Modulus Flea Bass. Within the next few months I’ll play songs from different albums. Charlie is high on my list!
@@RedHotChiliRiffs ok you gave me hope 🤣😅😭
Do Save The Population and Eskimo and Rivers Of Avalon Please
fell in love with this song~again~
why dont you incorporate live solos/intros? yokahoma would fit perfectly in here.......
I’m mainly focusing on the album versions. I may cover live versions in the future…
ok fair :)))@@RedHotChiliRiffs
Yokahoma solo is badass
