Camille is one of the kind. I cried through the first movement, which has never happened for me before. Hope I had been in the concert to experience this personally.
Elgar concerto equals Du Pre, for me. I love her. This is the first time I have ever listened to this masterpiece from a cellist other than Du Pre. I had the strange feeling that she was listening together with me. Thank you. I wish I listened to you in the concert hall. 😘
I agree completely with you. was about to write something similar but I have tried to listen to other performances but give up on them till now, well said Sir.
I agree Selcuk. "Hilary and Jackie" is one of my favourite movies for this reason. Camille, I think, does a great job of investing similar levels of emotion as Jacqueline Du Pre did.
Grand merci madame Thomas.
So many time ago that I don't cry listening to a performance, you achieve it Camille. Wonderful, you make magic beyond the notes and that's what the audience love while seeing you oy and listening ening your music. Continue shinning.
It is the first time I am hearing this Masterpiece... and already in Lobo for it... Ms Camille Thomas has the brilliant and amazing of make me fall in love for the music she plays... She falls in love for the cello and after that, it's contagious... She is perfect playing cello... It is so different to have a teenager girl music student of cello (starting at the age 6/7 years old,) Camille Thomas was one of the cellist that I said the show hear it... She loves classics... And I already am proud mother... But when I hear Camille playing cello like this, my hearts beats faster... Maybe... Who knows?! My love to all and please stay safe. Susana from Porto, Portugal
Thank you. Watched it on tv. A very passionate performance of Elgar’s concerto. Love Elgar and watched this concerto performed many times by great Jacqueline du Pre. Camille Thomas has her own touch and I loved it very much. Shared of course.
Splendida! Appassionata! Beautiful! Passionate! Touching!.. What more can we say about this wonderful Camille?
A truly moving performance giving a strangely personal reading to a masterpiece that has been played and recorded, often live, by countless great soloists, conductors and orchestras. This can stand comparison with them all from Jacquie du Pre to Yo Yo Ma, to……whoever. Bravo bravissimo
Magnificent! Gloriously solemn and somber, your heartfelt performance beautifully combines long mournful passages with bursts of protest in the form of a more vigorous spirit. The first half is my favorite, as it mixes these elements to the best effect, and it has my single favorite part starting at 1:45 or so. Just superb, thank you. 😍🤩
yes, loved this Elgar from the beginning. I used to play the opening on my viola....learning to read bass clef on the viola! She just performed it w/LA phil a few days ago. Douglas viola, piano, organ, guitar recorders and poet of SD CA
Wow, since Jacquline Du Pre I haven't cried as much as I did with your interpretation, neither YoYo Ma nor Sol Gabeta nor Turls Mork conveyed to me what you did. What a brave way to get the notes out of those strings, please keep it up.
Different interpretations. To take a short piece as example, listen in youtube to the popular Saint-Saens piece: Hauser "The Swan", Camille "Saint-Saens Le Cygne - ZDF - Weinachten mit dem Bundespräsident". Matter of taste, in general, I better like Camille. Each note get its own load, its own vibrato while Hauser is smoother. But in the case of this Elgar concerto, Camille is more sober than others.
What is knocking all the time? Very disturbing. Sad to See that throughout your career you started pressing the bow. Pretty Sure that this is not what Stephan Forck teaches 😬 but your confidence is impressive! Congrats!
But what the hell are these people who are coughing between one movement and another?
@richardandaya3932 Parts of this performance make my eyes water, and I am only listening to it. If I were able to play it what might happen? Perhaps you should try to empathise with the artist?
What a beautiful, sensitive, nuanced performance. I feel as though she is not just playing an instrument, she IS the instrument.
Her performance is full of sorrows and joys of the human world

Best live opening performance of this, ever.
Very difficult melodies for everybody
Thank you very much for great
performance
One of the most beautiful, moving and emotional music ever composed
Camille has such a wonderful, delicate, poetic interpretation!
The conductor and orchestra are incredible. Very sharp and responsive sound combine to give a very clear sense of support to the cellist.

I feel the passion and enthusiasm deeply embedded in every single note!
Also the texture is fabulous, thx for sharing!!
Merci Camille ! Toujours fabuleuse !
What a wonderful interpretation! Camille is amazing!!!
What again, over an over again, a great performance by Thomas of this beautiful and complex Elgar's Cello Concerto

Love it! The intense sound of cello on these hands! Bravo!
BRAVO!

In this performance, Camille Thomas, could be the reincarnation of the late greats, Portuguese Guilhermina Suggia and British Jacqueline du Pré?
The camera work on this is truly splendid. I love the zooming in on her playing, cello and bow. Even from the back. @15:44
It evokes such deep emotion. It helps me to sleep while weeping from buried feelings that hurts so much. It's beautifully outstanding.
It sure does, incredible how emotion can be invested in music like this.

SUPERB ! A beautiful lady, who performs this beautiful piece of music with such emotion and passion. Great conductor and orchestra too.
Finally! Fantastic interpretation!

Merci beaucoup 🐬👂

Maravilhoso
My second favorite performance of this work, besides Jacqueline du Pré 🎻
❤️🌹❤️

Great performance. Odd choice of close-ups on the cellist in many instances by the camera man/filming director.
Buen intento Dupre inalcanzable
Nobody will ever surpass Jacqueline Du Pre !

I could really live without all of the excessive facial expressions.
That will come naturally when you are so immersed in the piece. This Elgar concerto will do that to you
That sounds like something a robot would say…but then again there are people making robots and androids capable of achieving facial expressions 😂
Really? That is what you saw? It is similar performance to Jacqueline
