Sorry to hear about your tools but thank you for uploading this video. Going to try this method on my wife’s car as it’s starting to leak pretty bad and making a mess of our driveway.
FCP Euro is awesome! those kits and install videos are great.
Thank you for naming each part.
Appreciate the video!
Great videos overall however one thing missed during this procedure - engine priming to get rid of air from oil rail. According to BMW engine priming should be done after any job related to oil circulation system (besides oil filter change only).
I’ve asked a bunch of people about this, and nobody seems to ever do the prime. Anecdotally, when I started the engine after the repair, the oil pressure light didn’t stay on for longer than just a normal filter replacement. I’m not too concerned.
Спасибо за видео. Убедился ещё раз, что заменю прокладку сам, а не поеду в сервис! 👍
Пожалуйста!
Just did this, awesome video by the way, but oil ended up shooting everywhere from it any reccomendations?
Uh oh….you may have damaged a seal when putting it back together. Or the filter cap o-ring. Need to figure out exactly where the oil is shooting out from.
what spray did you use to clean the housing ? and what tools you need to take off the housing? and why you need the battery charging for coolant?
Spray is brake cleaner. Tools are explained in the video - E10 + E12 sockets with appropriate ratchets, extensions, and torque wrenches. Basic hand tools.
Hey James are you able to provide me with the link to this repair kit from FCP Euro? I’m on their website now, I just want to make sure I’m purchasing the correct parts. Thank you!!
Here you go: www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-engine-oil-filter-housing-gasket-kit-11428637821kt8
How exactly did you clean the filter and did you use break cleaner all through inside and out ?
Yes, lots of brake clean, and then wiped it with paper towels. Then compressed air dry.
Do u have to use new bolts for the oil filter housing and oil cooler or can u reuse them cuz I seen u buy a whole kit that comes with new bolts
Should use new bolts but I’m sure it’ll be fine if you reuse. Just can’t torque all the way to spec when reusing them.
@@that_jamesguy thanks for reply I just went ahead and bought the whole kit, I have no experience workin on cars but hopefully the videos I’ve watched is enough for me to get the job done, wish me luck
Hi mate. I have the same 2013 328i f30 M sport 56k miles (uk). My engine has developed this weird whining noise after an oil change which fluctuates with the revs especially when i let of the throttle. It’s not timing chain I’m aware of those sounds. This whine happens with cold engine & is coming from behind the alternator side. Any idea what it could be or have you experienced this?
No idea. I would check the filter - see if it has collapsed (it can happen). Replace it and try it out.
Valve cover
Ya air & fuel might be running too lean. Did u ever get to find out what the problem was
Did you figure it out
Alternator for sure
Damn F30 B48 has a aluminum oil filter housing? My G01 B48 has a plastic one and I will have to replace the whole housing if it leaks..
This is still the N20 engine.
You’ll probably get away with just replacing the seal.
Also looks like a tiny coolant leak going on
Do you have to prime your engine?
BMW says yes. I say no/not really concerned. In my mind it’s not much different than replacing the filter - maybe an extra 5-10 seconds of no oil PSI. 🤷♂️
Where did you order the gasket from?
fcp euro
What did you use to clean it up?
Good old brake clean. 👍
DO NOT LOOSEN THE INTAKE!!!! I HAVE DONE MANY OF THESE GASKETS WITHOUT REMOVING THE INTAKE, OR ANYTHING ELSE!!! All you need is a 1/4” Extension about 6-8” long, a swivel and an 8mm short socket and you can easily remove the back bolt!!! Removing the intake, or loosening it is an extremely unnecessary step, that can result in extra time and money!!!!!!
Not on the N20. Must be done to clear the filter housing.
@@that_jamesguyI promise you Sir, It can be done…
@@tripleeathletics Show proof that you have done it? you can definitely reach the bolt with the tools you mentioned. But you can only loosen it to a certain extent. the bolt is long and will hit the intake manifold.
Where are you located man?
Near Vancouver BC
I’ve done this twice in the past 3 years and its leaking again. 🤦♂️
Oh man!!
Do you have the aluminum oil filter housing or plastic? If you have the plastic one which is black maybe that’s why… change to aluminum (silver)
